'True Blood': TV's most twisted sex scene of all time?

lorena-and-billImage Credit: John P. Johnson/HBOSPOILER ALERT! If you haven’t watched last night’s True Blood and intend to, stop reading here. Ken Tucker’s got your review of the episode. We just want to talk about that sex scene. We’ve witnessed — and rewound — some sexy hookups on this show (and, in fact, we’ve gone as far as to rank them), but I don’t think Bill’s angry tryst with Lorena qualifies. (Watch it below.) She had once again taken away his freedom, home, and humanity, and essentially forced him to leave Sookie to save Sookie’s life, and he was consumed with hate. Any strong emotion for a vampire can cause the fangs to come out, and even though Lorena wanted Bill to make love to her — and somehow seemed to enjoy him TWISTING HER HEAD 180 DEGREES TO FACE AWAY FROM HIM — it’s clear he was doing it to hurt her. That’s why when she said, “Oh William, I still love you” with a bloodied grin on her face, all he could do was scream. (Seriously, Bill has become so much more interesting since he ended up in Mississippi in constant formal wear!)

Is this the most twisted love scene you’ve seen on a mainstream TV show? (The sound of her neck breaking, people!) If not, what topped it? What was your reaction while watching the scene? PopWatch poll!

My husband and I had identical expressions of stunned horror when we were finally able to pull our eyes from the screen during the closing credits– then, we both busted out laughing. Not because it was funny, I think, but to relieve the stress of watching that DISTURBING encounter. Way to outdo yourself, True Blood!

    • Jamie

BTW, there were no shibbities in our house after this…

  • matterlyb

I wish the writers would go a little bit easier on Bill. I think this scene shows that Bill is giving up on his humanity and on being with Sookie. Unless he turns her- which he feels would be condemning her to an eternity of misery, which he’s had – she will never be safe.

Why, oh why, doesn’t someone stake that bitch?

    • mk

I think they need to bring Bill down a notch anyway. Then we get more Eric! :)

      • Amanda

I agree!!! more ERIC!!!! he’s looking damn good this season

      • katieM

Agreed! i think eric looks soo much nicer with his hair now than in season 1 (Y) eric and sookie should have a fling :L :D

    • Kristin

I think Bill wanted to hurt Lorena, because he hated her so much. He blamed her for ruining his life, for forcing him to leave Sookie. When she told him that she loved him after that, he just screamed, becasue he felt like he couldnt do anything to destroy her. I hope he gets to reunite with Sookie soon, I feel bad that Bill is being tortured by Lorena like that.

    • Mrs. Frisby

If they stick to the books, you’ll get your wish!

      • Christian Dannie Storgaard

        Why the spoiler?

    • sara

It may be hard for the writers since in the original books Bill flat out left sookie to run off to mississipi with lorena. They are just moving this story where they want as they go at this point so they may have been unsure where to take it with Bill.

        Spoilers everywhere! Stop it!

  • Sweet

Just a tad inappropriate for this site, no?

    • Jennifer

      No.

    • Nikki

no. Its True Blood we are talking about, if we couldn’t say anything inappropriate, well then it wouldn’t be mentioned at all and we cant have that now, can we?It was just described to you. You click play at your own discrepancy.

  • Jen

I said to myself after watching it that it was “the most twisted sex scene I’ve seen in awhile” then I laughed at my own stupid pun. Point is don’t drink & watch True Blood alone while discussing the show…with yourself!

    • lyn

jen you are too funny, Ill try and keep that in mind

    • Meeeeee

      HAHAHAHA!

  • Chris

Kids, do not try this at home

  • Ceballos

Other than being literally (ha, ha) the most twisted sex scene of all time, I think this also takes the cake in a non-literal manner.

The previous holder of the top spot: Richard Burgi playing a character who had sex with a couch on “Nip/Tuck.”

    • I’m gay for Tina Fey

      (Nip/Tuck spoilers)
The N/T moment I go to is the one where Christian is nailing Jessalyn Gilsig on a rooftop and thrusts her off of the building to her death.

  • BLM

It was horrific and ridiculous. Though I;m glad to see the storyline is kind of following the books now.

    • Emily

Agreed! I am not a book purist but the excess of Bill on the show as opposed to the books is driving me nuts. He is barely in the series after book 2! I really hate Bill both on the show and in the books.

      • jackiej

emily, I agree with you. Alan Ball gives Bill the
most dramatic scenes, and biggest role on true
blood when others actors are better

  • High Again

What about laughter and then horror? At first I laughed and then realized what I was laughing at (It was shock) and felt horrified. All in all, well done Alan Ball!

  • Kate

What I kept thinking was, wait, head removal, tried & true method of killing a vampire and then grossed out that he was still having sex with her, then she was still alive and I was trying to remember if I still had the third & fourth book in the series (where we are now, I am pretty sure) because Bill tried to tell Sookie about this and for obvious reasons she did not want to hear it and so if Sookie did not know it in the books, we didn’t. On a real spoiler type note, I hated Bill for a bunch of books after the end of what will happen this season (not so much for what happens here, I didn’t agree with Sookie at being so mad at him for what he did in Mississippi, he was a prisoner, but, well, he has not denied working closely for the queen – what do we think he was doing? This is where Eric becomes the good guy…

    • Bill FangGirl

      Kate,
Well written and I agree with you. But, unlike the books, I think the TV show Bill has a lot more humanity, and everything he has done up to the twisted sex with Lorena was out of love for Sookie.

Lorena drove him to this point. He is so full of rage/anger/hate/dispair at his life since he was made by Lorena, and here she is again right smack in the middle of ruining a good thing for him.

I do not see Eric as the good guy. In the tv show, he’s still the guy who chained up Lafayette for 3 weeks. And I still don’t trust him. Yes, it’s obvious he feels something for Sookie, but he’s used her and put her in danger too for his own benefit.

I know from what Franklin found in Bill’s house that Bill’s original plans were for an ulterior motive (working for the Queen), but I think he should be forgiven by Sookie for why he original came to Bon Temps and for having sex (which he did out of hate) with Lorena.

I know that I’m a minority on this. And it’s probably going to not end how I want.

      My heart breaks for Bill.

And right now, I think his story is the most interesting one this season.

      • Carla

You are absolutely right on. I am so heartbroken for Bill right now, my reaction to the scene was first horror, then sadness for Bill…so his torture begins.

      • D

I think it’s possible the season will end with the same revelation as the book. If you rewatch from season 1 there have been subtle references to Bill and Sookie’s relationship, and I certainly think Franklin digging around Bill’s house and finding his articles on Sookie are playing in favor of this.

  • ashley

my friend and i watched and were both faintly surprised, grossed out, horrified, and then traumatized. Just…i really want to know who thought of that scene so i can stay away from them.

  • Josie

This is HBO though, if you look at network TV I think Buffy took the cake for disturbing sex scenes — something about those vampires!

  • Dreamer

Less shocking dream than the Bill & Sam encounter.

    • Kris

Yeah, that was pretty disturbing, but please, you can’t tell me you weren’t even a little bit upset when it was just a dream lol.

  • Kaelyn

This was too much like rape for me. I don’t care if she wanted it. It was horrifying and I really don’t like that Bill was capable of such a thing.

    • cr

He’s still a vamp. So yes, he is capable of such a thing, as appalling as it may be.

    • francie

My reactions about Bill were probably both the most sympathetic and unsympathetic they’ve ever been in just this episode, comparing the heartbreaking scenes with Caroline to this graphic ending scene. It did seem like rape, but technically I guess she did consent, she wanted him to have sex with her.

  • Madd

My husband and I stared at the TV for a really long time…and then burst out laughing.
Seriously, though, I do feel bad for Bill, even if I like Eric better.

  • Freda

Very bizzare, but still strangely fascinating-I certainly hope there were no children in the room when this was going on- but then, this show is not appropriate for anyone underage anyway. Just an FYI- these episodes are steering away from the books- in the fact LaFayette(?) was killed in the 2nd one-so whole new story line there and before it’s all over-maybe not Sookie and Bill anyway.

    • cyndi

      I love Lafayette!

      • Roni

        I Love Lafayette too!!
