Taylor Lautner does cover story interview at Olive Garden: What chain restaurant do you secretly crave?

taylor-gq-coverImage Credit: Mario Testino/GQI have never enjoyed Taylor Lautner more than in the cover story of July’s GQ (on stands June 22). He let the writer tag along with him to Nickelodeon’s annual Kids’ Choice Awards — where DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg approached Lautner to ask if he had two minutes (because Will Smith wanted to meet him) — and then, a week later, suggested they do their lunch interview at his local Olive Garden. An excerpt:

“Do you like this place?” he asks, a little unsure, adding: “My father turned me on to it.” Without glancing at the menu, Lautner orders the Toscana soup, then asks to substitute the Caesar salad for the house. Before the waiter can reply, Lautner interrupts innocently: “I know,” he says, “it’ll be a dollar fifty extra. That’s fine.” Well, yes. Yes, it will be.

I sorta love that Lautner isn’t too cool for Olive Garden. It could be because I have been known to pressure a friend to go to a midtown Manhattan Applebee’s so I could have the Chicken Fajita Rollup, and nothing made me happier than the night an EW colleague (originally from the Midwest) suggested we hit the salad bar at Ruby Tuesday. What chain restaurant do you secretly crave? Two more confessions, so you know you’re among friends:

Kate Ward: “I secretly love Chili’s. Their triple dipper — three appetizers — is just an orgasm of fried food.”

Michael Slezak: “Every few months, I like to sit by myself at the bar at Pizzeria Uno and order myself a personal-size Chicago Classic and an extra big beer. (Uno has some ridiculous size that’s like two pints!)”

Your turn.

Outback Steakhouse is usually on point.

Steak ‘n’ Shake is my secret shame… But really, who wouldn’t want a greasy cheeseburger with a side of baked beans, shoestring potatoes, and an extra large milkshake for under 7 bucks?

    • Kristal

You are lucky to have Steak n Shake’s. I hadn’t eaten at one until we were traveling a couple of years ago and it was really good.

    • Cara

They’re not near me either, so now I’m curious… Do they actually have steak? Thanks…

      • Anne

@Cara, no they do not have steak. Its called that because the burgers are “steak burgers” which I think means they are supposedly made from the same cuts of beef as steak, not the leftover ground beef parts.

Let me tell you, it is delicious. For me, its all about the Frisco Melt.

      • jcarla

The Steak part is the Steakburgers.

    • steph

The patty melt at Steak n Shake totally blows my mind. I don’t even like them normally.

LOVE Steak & Shake. Like dipping the little skinny fries in one of their chocolate malts. Dang, now I’m hungry!

  • Lo

Buffalo Wild Wings is where it’s at. Fried food to the extreme.

  • Tim Lade

Give me some Red Lobster during All You Can Shrimp any day of the week! Although my love for Olive Garden is not a secret…I own it proudly. Anytime my assistant needs a pick-me-up that is where I take her…yes yes I know…I’m the best boss ever!

    • Mia

Red Lobster cheddar biscuits, nom nom.

  • Chichi

UNOS! I can hear my arteries clogging by just typing the name but UGH! I’ll shank a ho for a deep dish.

  • MysticYoYo

Carrabas is good (Loooove the Pollo Rosa Maria!) Also love the salad bar at Ruby Tuesday’s although the rest of the menu isn’t that great.

  • Mike

And I don’t have a Ruby Tuesday’s next to me, so I actually make a point of going there when I’m out of town and find one.

    • Jackie

Oh my goodness, I cannot seem to get enough of Chevy’s chips and salsa. And I order their Chicken Fajita platter just so I can enjoy their tortillas.

      • Kelmar

Yes, Chevy’s has THE best chips & salsa, and love the freshly-made tortillas!

  • Cara

I love me a good Denny’s. Their Buffalo chicken sandwich is evil tasty goodness.
I also love In & Out Burger! But there’s no secret in that…all the cool folks love them.

  • freckles

  • Kiki

I generally shun everything Twilight-related, but Taylor gets a pass in my book. And this makes me love him more. So cute! I too love Olive Garden…their breadsticks and salad are amazing. Nothing wrong with a chain restaurant now and then!

  • Madd

My husband and I are secretly in love with Applebees.

  • Emilee

I second Kate’s vote for Chili’s. Southwest Eggrolls and bottomless chips and salsa are delicious!

  • Katy

I am 19, and Friendly’s is a favorite of my hometown friends. We gossip about school and relationships over sundaes as we straddle the line teenagerdom and adulthood.
I also love Cracker Barrel- we don’t have one where I live but there’s one ten minutes from Messiah, where i go to school.

  • AG

    Cheesecake Factory. Best bread ever.

  • Ktct

I live in the north east and recently attended a wedding in North Caroilina. Chic-fill-a was awesome!

    • Ktct

      Oops- sorry for my spelling!

      • Vivi

Chik-fil-a is the bomb diggity! The Cookies-n-Cream milkshake is just freakin’ heaven! And don’t get me started on its Breakfast Menu! Thank goodness I live in the DC area.
