Are there actors who tweak the mold just enough to escape criticism/audience fatigue? I’d nominate Paul Rudd, who’s just signed on to star in My Idiot Brother. According to The Hollywood Reporter, “Brother sees Rudd playing an idealist dealing with his overbearing mother who crashes into the homes of his three ambitious sisters and, in succession, brings truth, happiness, and a sunny disposition into their lives while also wreaking havoc.” Rudd’s sweet spot is the matured man-child who’s struggling with a next step: Role Models, I Love You, Man. He has a good eye for spotting worthwhile, comedic journeys.
Granted, we don’t know much about his character’s sisters — other than they’re “ambitious” and yet to be cast — but who would you like to see play his siblings? In my dream world, they’re Lauren Graham, Parker Posey, and, if one of the sisters needs to be much younger than him, Parks and Recreation‘s Aubrey Plaza or Up in the Air‘s Anna Kendrick. Your picks?

I like the idea of Lauren Graham and Parker Posey, although I’m not sure I’d agree with either of your picks for the younger sister. Aubrey Plaza seems too low-key, and Anna Kendrick doesn’t bear as much of a physical resemblance. Danneel Harris is a brunette these days, and she can do “ambitious” well. She might be a good choice.
