Edward Cullen…Edward Cullen…..Can someone please explain that one?
he may not be greta, but he is popular so he deserves to be on the list. 100th spot, though.
It’s not the 100 most popular characters. It’s the 100 GREATEST characters. Greatest implies that they are in fact, Great aka well-developed, intriguing, interesting, etc. The sparkly vampire is none of the above.
MADEA?!!!! This list just lost any and all credibility.
Madea is a brilliant character that seriously transcends all of her movies. She brings out the proud black woman in all of us (but mostly in Tyler Perry!)
i honestly couldn’t remember who Madea was until your comment.
imo, Eric Cartman is hands down the funniest, most quoted, most controversial, most wacked-in-the-head, BEST character in the past 20 years.
I think Eric Cartman should be higher on the list than #22, probably in the top ten, maybe even in the top 5. But I don’t think anyone could give a justified answer as to why Homer Simpson shouldn’t belong at #1. Homer is hands-down the greatest character ever created, and on top of that, he has left a huge impact on pop culture, more so than any other character. Very deserving of the #1 spot.
Homer is pop Culture!!
Not knocking Homer Simpson. Huge pop culture figure. Interesting that the two best characters on TV for the past 20 years are animated.
What? No Al Swearengen from Deadwood?
or Calamity Jane/ Seth Bullock?
To which he would say “Damn New York City C— S——”
William Wallace, Braveheart?
actual person, not a fictional character. my husband was hoping for Bill the Butcher, from Gangs of New York, but we figured that he didn’t make it because he’s so based on William Poole.
Also a Character in a movie played by an actor and all done with creative license. dip stick.
Corporal Oppum or Private Ryan?
I should get a free lance fee for helping with these lists, well me and the rest of my fellow posters. Lets start a facebook push ala Betty White / SNL who’s with me?
Where is Sheldon Cooper from TBBT?
A couple things.
I agree with those who said Jack Shepard should have shared the spot with John Locke
I havent seen Glee, cant say I like it or dislike it, but I do think it’s a little much to put the lady from there at #19 already.
When I saw Drake from the Uncharted series and the other 2 video game characters on there, the first thing I thought to myself was that Master Chief better be somewhere on this list. Glad to see you guys didnt forget.
Omar Little should be in the top ten.
YO OMAR’S COMIN!
should b n top 5 for sure. “All in the game”
No Veronica Mars? Sad . . .
I can’t believe I didn’t even notice that they ignored Veronica Mars! Now that I do know it…I’m pissed!
Ack! I didn’t notice either! Grrrr.
Interesting that ew and another gossip site is turning 20 at the same time. Nothing but lists for the rest of the summer.
I’m pleasantly surprised to see that Corky St. Clair from Guffman was included (rightfully so…he is such a hoot). But the rest of this list is a bit of a mess, to be honest. Hancock? Who even remembers that movie? Surely Will Smith had better characters in the last 20 years (The Pursuit of Happyness maybe?). Also, I see you threw in Edward Cullen to meet your daily quota of “Twilight” references (groan). And Rachel Green in the top 10 when Chandler was WAY funnier? One character from Lost? No Captain Picard? Who wrote this list?
Oh! Picard! Ohoho!! You are SO right!
Poochie, anyone?
So good to see Mulder & Scully near the top.
Word.
