Matthew Fox talks 'Lost' ending with David Letterman

On last night’s Late Show, Matthew Fox — shiny suit and boots! — swung by to talk about the fever pitch of anticipation around the show’s finale. As David Letterman insisted last week to Evangeline Lilly — “a lovely young woman,” the host said obliviously, “who’s always on the show all the time” — the only ending he’ll accept is a dream sequence. “The only way this show will make any sense is if someone goes ‘Wake up, wake up,'” he told Fox. “And you go ‘oh, oh, we’re landing in Cincinnati.’ I will accept nothing other than that.” Fox did give us one spoiler: Cincinnati will play no part in the series finale. Check out the video:

Can you believe it PopWatchers? The ending is really upon us. All hail Doc Jensen and the freed up brain space that awaits him.

He has his season one haircut

    • Funback Joe

I noticed that too! I wonder if it will play into the final episodes…

      • Miranda

They’ve already finished filming awhile ago so he probably got his haircut after that and it won’t look any different on the show.

      • brett

There were some set pics from the last day of filming and I won’t give you any spoilers but Fox had the same hair he’s had all season so this new cut doesn’t figure into the show.

oh well.. thought maybe I was onto something haha

      • Kathy

I love that the man gets a haircut and a million theories for how it plays into the story pop up! Man, I can’t wait until Sunday! I’m eagerly anticipating the conclusion… what’s gonna happen?!

  • Fish

    It’s Cincinnati, not Cincinatti.

    • Chris

Haha! Does not use spell check?

      • Rock Golf

They tried but then the copy read “..oh, oh, we’re landing in Cinnabon!”

    • Karen Valby

      Sorry Cincinnati!

    • Kathy

They must have fixed it, but we in Cincinnati are used to everyone misspelling it. Would be cool if that’s how Lost ended, on a flight to Cincinnati! Looking forward to it anyway.

      • LOL

It’s easier to call it the Nasty.

      • frozengrasshopper

i thought it was changed to Ocho Cinconnati

      • Lisa Simpson

Except that they’d really be landing in Northern Kentucky, just to make things really weird. ;-)

    • born yesterday

      a town of a loser

I can’t see the video at work, but I’m assuming it’s as revelatory as all hell, because the only other reason I can see that this topic was posted was an excuse for Valby to follow up last week with “to Evangeline Lilly — “a lovely young woman,” the host said obliviously, “who’s always on the show all the time”.

I would almost be willing to bet money that Dave has never seen an episode of Lost.

  • lostkarma

Dave isn’t exactly current as to Lost, is he? The interview with Evie was so odd, and so was this one. Like Regis and the dinosaur theory. Old people are so cute.

    • Moonwvr

I love watching Regis and Kelly, but felt they cheated Matthew Fox out on his interview! Especially when the Matthew from “Glee” was on right after, sat for two interview segments, and then Kelly had the audacity to tell him she would surely watch his show tonight. BUT in my time zone, “Glee” is on the same time as Lost!!!! I was highly offended.

  • Shiny

So nice to see Matthew with the clean cut look from the first season. I hate that weird newscaster hair he’s been sporting this season.

    • Carla in Houston

Hey, watch it! Even on his worst hair day, that man is still super fine. So say we all. That is all.

  • Alicia

Why is NBC so allergic to “Lost”? They never seem to mention it at all.

    • Mark

Fallon has Matthew Fox on tonight as the top guest.

    • The Beginning Is The End

Jimmy Fallon is a Lostie and has a spoof of it on his show called LATE, but that’s about it.

      • StatueToe

The Office and 30 Rock has made multiple references to LOST over the years.

      • Mark

I mean, you’re drawing a line between the older generation of NBC’s viewership (represented more by Leno) and the younger generation that drives Lost’s popularity (Fallon). At least Fallon shows that he is familiar with Lost. When Letterman has Lost cast members on, he spends the entire time patronizing the actors as well as the show. He shows no actual knowledge of the show. I’d actually say NBC does a much better job of referencing Lost than CBS does.

“TGI Wednesday… Gonna get my beer on, get my LOST on…”
        -Andy Bernard

    • Dave

Actually NBC has allowed it to be mentioned on their shows at least. It has been mentioned at least twice on The Office that I can remember. I find it odd that the guys on Big Bang Theory never talk about it. Seems like a show they would be into.

  • Diana

Letterman thinks it’s a dream and Regis thinks it will end with dinosaurs…are there any TV host that actually watch LOST?

PS: I believe Matthew is on NBC’s Jimmy Fallon tonight. So fingers crossed he’s seen the show.

  • Julie

I’m so sad that the end of LOST is upon us. It is truly an amazing drama that will be sorely missed. I’m excited to see how it all ends, but at the same time, sad that it is all over.

    • April

I’m watching last season now for some reason. I can’t believe that Sunday is it.

  • Doc Jensen Minion No 1

Letterman is far from the best person to be interviewing the cast of LOST, since he admittedly doesn’t watch the show. I’m looking forward to Matthew Fox on Regis & Kelly this morning MUCH more, since Regis is, you know, a FAN.

    • Lisa Simpson

I’m looking forward to the Jimmy Kimmel post-show. No, wait, I’m not! That would mean the show is actually over and I will no longer be able to deny the inevitable. Aaagh!

    • LOL

      Regis is still alive?

    • RK

There is no way that Regis can understand this show.

      • Amiee

And who does understand this show? :-)

  • Jetouellet

What David doesn’t realize is that if it is a dream ending, millions of TVs will be thrown out the window. Which of course is less people that can watch his show.

    • Moonwvr

      that is sooo funny! :)

  • MichelleJ

I also noticed that he had the same cut from season one. He also said something to the effect that he knew the ending because he filmed all of it. Another small clue as to who will fill Jacob’s shoes?

  • Cincy Steve

I guess my scene got cut :(

  • nikki

david is a moron, he had no idea what he was talking about

  • C

    so handsome…
