Alec Baldwin says he's hosting 'SNL' finale. Scrumptulescent!

Alec-BaldwinImage Credit: Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic.comOh, for the love of Schweddy Balls, I hope this is true! While walking the red carpet at last night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner, 30 Rock star and 14-time Saturday Night Live host Alec Baldwin told a reporter he would be hosting the May 15 season finale of Saturday Night Live. (See the video on Gawker.) UPDATE: NBC has confirmed that Baldwin will be hosting the finale.

NBC is remaining tight-lipped about Baldwin’s statement — they are not confirming to EW whether or not it’s true quite yet — but after hearing this red carpet revelation, I feel like embracing Baldwin as if we just finished a round of tennis at Greenhilly. (Why I can’t find this sketch online in English, I do not know. All I know is it’s a crime it’s not on Hulu. And still funny in a different language.) After all, this season of SNL seems to have had more lows (Cough, January Jones, Cough!) than highs (Mmm…Hamm and Buble). Who better to help the show end on a high note than Baldwin?

Now the question is: What would we want to see Baldwin do in the finale? Canteen Boy’s scout master may be primed for a (tweaked) comeback, what with the Catholic Church controversy. And it’s been too long since we’ve seen Baldwin’s scrumptulescent impersonation of Charles Nelson Reilly, no?

Are you too hoping Baldwin hosts SNL‘s season finale, PopWatchers? What would you like to see him do? And while we wait for confirmation, let’s play with our Wii‘s, shall we?

    Awesome.

  • Madd

This BETTER be true. Alec Baldwin is one of those hosts that instantly make the material better-in my opinion Christopher Walken is still the champ, though. Greenhilly seriously isn’t on the web? That is so sad.
And yes, we NEED more Charles Nelson Reilly. I’m going to watch that clip right now.

    • Madd

“It’s King Lort…there’s a troll in Central Park!”
I love that skit way too much.

    • Celia

      “We need more cowbell…baby.”

    • Alex

Alec is the best on SNL. ALWAYS funny.

      Tylenol BM – instant classic.

  • Moe

Finally a good guest. This season of SNL has been VERY disappointing except for some Like Gabby and Zach.Ryan Reynolds was also good.

    • Madd

I also thought James Franco and Jon Hamm were very funny. But yeah, it’s been a bad season.

    • JC

gabby was horrible ,lowest of the season

      • deedee

Gabby and that chick from that CW show – Gossip Girl?

      • will

nope deedee that was Blake..but I disagree JC I actually laughed during some of her skits, January Jones was by far the worst

      • Hannah

I agree Will. JJ was horrible! But on the other end, I though John Hamm has been the best. I can’t watch Hamm and Buble without laughing at loud at least once.

  • kyle

thats good but has Justin Timberlake hosted this year???

    • Bernice

Hmmm yes I need JT to host again. I feel like it gets immediately better when he is there.

    • Johnification

I love JT too, but it’s good he took a year off. He made like 800 (all funny) cameos last year, and was at risk of becoming overexposed.

  • EZone

Great! Hopefully Baldwin and Betty White next week can wash out the bad taste of that HORRENDOUS Gabourey episode. UGH. Worst SNL I’ve ever seen.

    • John

First, lean to spell, and second, she was awesome last week.

      • Spellcheck

What exactly do you think they misspelled? That’s how her name is spelled, though I suppose they took some creative liberties with the word “UGH”

      • Ronnie

        “lean to spell?” interesting…

        But I liked Gabby, too.

      • JMB

There was nothing misspelled in that post, John. Perhaps you might invest in a dictionary before revealing your own ignorance to the world.

      • Bobby’s Robot

Maybe you should “lean” to spell.

  • bobby

kate, the Gabby whatever-her-last-name-is one last week was FAR worse than January Jones. At least she could actually get all her lines out, WHEW…

    • John

Gabby was awesome-maybe you should learn your lines Bobby.

      • Sal

        Hi Gabby’s agent

    • Joel

January Jones was the absolute worst. There was no episode worse than that one.

      • will

yeah! Remember when January said “which camera?” on her first skit. And there’s a difference between knowing your lines and fumbling on them, Gabby I’m sure knew her lines she just got tongue tied.

      • Sal

you obviously haven’t seen robert de niro host the show

    • Ian

Nonsense. She had a little trouble with her lines but she did a great job. Seriously, what were you watching?

  • Mick

Steve Martin might have something to say about this. Aren’t Steve and Alec in a contest for the most SNL host spots.

  • Trixie

    Scrumtrulescent imo

  • taz

Betty and Alec in the same month. I am in SNL heaven!! I can actually watch again.

    • JoaNNA Truth

      You are beyond pathetic, taz.

      • LOL

        Troll.

      • jason.

whoa! How is expressing excitement for two hosts of proven comedic pedigree “pathetic”, let alone “beyond pathetic”?

    • Hannah

Whatever, Joanna. Betty White and Alec Baldwin in the same month is going to be baller.

  • Kristin

OMG I hope this i true! Alec is the best SNL host ever, so many classic skits. And the guy is hilarious on 30 Rock.

  • Ronnie

Haven’t had any Schweddy Balls in ages!

  • Christy Nichols

I would love to see him re-visit his Tony Bennett impression (Phony Bennett – hah!) … Hysterical – and DEAD ON!

    • mimi

      Yes, Phony Bennett! A must!!!

  • Rob

Kate – you can get the Greenhilly clip on the SNL Alec Baldwin best of DVD (it’s the first sketch after the cold open). The whole disc is good – him in the diner with Jan Hooks as a waitress is pretty damn great.

  • MiraMcB

AWESOME! LOVE Alec Baldwin in anything, but the SNL stuff is always so great! Thanks for the heads up! Marking my calendar.

  • LOL

We need a Timberlake cameo, too. They need a huge finale to make up for this lousy season.

    • JoaNNA Truth

No we ABSOLUTELY DO NOT NEED THAT, you pathetic 12 year old child.

      • LOL

Wow. No sense of humor? Timberlake is always funny on SNL. You must be a Leno fan.

      • Dave “Slapnuts” McGee

You are mean! I’m 33 and would also love to see Justin Timberlake on SNL again. He’s funny. Keep attacking people for no good reason. It makes you look good.

      • MsSuniDaze

I agree. You don’t have to be a teen to want him on the show. He is always funny. Baldwin, Timberlake, Martin and Hamm were the funniest.

      • TMRZoo Neil

I’m 45 and I think Timberlake is one of the funniest hosts they’ve had in years. I can’t wait for him to be on again. That doesn’t mean I like his music, which I don’t. I though Jon Hamm was a great host too, by the way.
And, I hope that Baldwin is doing the finale. It’s been too long since he’s been on.

      • Jen

What’s your problem? JT always kills it on SNL. Zach G. was probably my fave ep this season. (I’m typing one handed w/ a baby on my lap. No cracks about my grammar.)
