'The Ring' sequel to scare teens s---less in 3-D

the-ringImage Credit: Everett CollectionRemember when we all swore never to watch TV again, or trust little girls with long brown hair after seeing 2002′s The Ring? And then when we all were kind of bummed about the not-so-scary The Ring Two, but still didn’t trust little girls with long brown hair? Well, our distrust of brunette girls will continue (sorry, Miranda Cosgrove), because Paramount has greenlit a third film in the series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Maybe I  shouldn’t be excited, what with the lackluster-ness of the second flick, but I’m optimistic — in large part because the film will be in 3D. Regardless of how you feel about 3D, you cannot deny that this scene would have been 10 times more petrifying and awesome if Samara was actually crawling at you.

I’m less excited to see the THR reporting that Paramount wants the latest installment to be more teen-centric than the original. One of the things I liked most about the original movie was that unlike Final Destination, Jeepers Creepers, and Freddy vs. Jason, The Ring felt like a more adult horror option, meaning you weren’t headed to the theater to watch rehashed, old horror villains slay high school cheerleaders while a 15-year-old couple makes out next to you.

Would you see the third Ring movie, PopWatchers? Especially since it will be in 3-D? And since no one under the age of 18 knows how to work a VHS player, Samara’s curse will pretty much cease to exist soon, right?

I think you’re being incredibly generous in calling “The Ring Two” lackluster. I was just talking to a friend of mine two days ago about how much I HATED it. I hope Naomi Watts bought herself a nice house or a great car with the money she made for starring in that turd.

I liked the first “Ring” quite a lot and you bring up a great point about it standing out by having an actual adult protagonist. I understand that there’s no chance in hell Watts would do another sequel, but centering it around teens just makes this seem like every other horror movie these days.

What I’m trying to say is that I have absolutely no interest in seeing “The Ring Three-D.”

The Ring is one of my all-time fav creepy movies, but the 2nd one was just so-so and should never have been done. No more, please, don’t turn Samara into another Jason or Freddie. Leave her in that damned well!

SHRIEK. No. It was plenty terrifying in 2-D, thanks.

The first, that is. The second was pretty craptastic. But if they actually do this one right, and it’s in 3-D, no thank you.

Love the first Ring – one of the best horror movies in 20 years. The Ring 2 was a complete mess. Rings, the bridge between the 2 films was not bad though. Maybe with the right director the movie will be ok.

I didn’t even know there was a Ring 2! Probably won’t see the newest one. The first was good enough. Done.

Yeah, I completely forgot The Ring 2 even existed. Also just remembered there was a Grudge 2 as well. Horror sequels just don’t work any more.

This was the only movie I’ve ever screamed at. I actually found both to be pretty scary and they both still haunt me in the dark if I think about them too much. That would be CRAZY.

I LOVED the first one, and I agree just the mere thought of Samara actually crawling at ME in 3D scares the crap out of me!

But I wouldn’t bet on 3D sequal being any better than Ring 2. Just stick to the first one

If that first one was in 3D you would guarantee fools would be screaming and ripping them glasses off just to stop that feel of her coming out the TV.

I swear this sould be known as the 3-D generation.

I’m not a huge fan of horror films, but this one stopped me from watching any scary movies for a long time. The Ring scared the crap out of me!! Scariest movie ever for me.

OMG, just the THOUGHT of Samara crawling out of the TV in 3-D is making me want to jump out of my skin! Thanks A LOT, Kate!

What made The Ring so good was that it was a mystery story wrapped in a horror story – how did this little girl tie in with the images on the film? It was incredibly well done (and freaky scary!) but what made it work was the mature female character trying to help a child. Turning this into a teen screamfest, with each teen killed in a more gruesome fashion, is just idiotic. Stick with Final Destination 10, or some such nonsense, and leave the GOOD films alone!

The Ring 2 had a great trailer but the movie was really disappointing.

Yikes! I will totally watch The Ring III. Perhaps it’s been too long but I didn’t HATE the Ring II…I have a love/hate relationship with horror movies. I hate that I love them!

I’ll watch if Watts comes back and redeems the series. The first one is a classic, the second destroyed an excellent opportunity.
