Image Credit: Todd Williamson/WireImage.comMark Hamill will always be Luke Skywalker, but his geek bona fides stretch beyond Star Wars. Besides a scene-stealing cameo in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and a devastatingly funny guest appearance on The Simpsons, Hamill was arguably the best Joker ever — he voiced the supervillain in various Batman cartoons. Expanding his dominion within the nerdosphere, the actor just hinted that he’ll be moving forward with an adaptation of his comic book series The Black Pearl, a superhero satire focused on media sensationalism.
I haven’t read Pearl, but between Kick-Ass, the upcoming Scott Pilgrim, and the totally weird Defendor, the timing seems about right for a dark-comedy riff on comic book heroism. After all, this summer will mark ten years since the release of X-Men, the film that jumpstarted the whole superhero trend. Maybe people are ready for a little bit of deconstruction. And who doesn’t love a good media satire? 15 Minutes, anyone? Anyone?
Would you watch Hamill’s The Black Pearl, PopWatchers? Or should he stick to dinner-theater productions of Guys and Dolls?

GO MARK GO!!!
holy shiznat!! Wow it’s an overwhelming leap to watch him when he was in his 20s and to look at his picture now without anything in between.
Very true. On the other hand, the resemblance to Darth Vader when he takes off his helmet in Return of the Jedi is uncanny.
At first glance I thought this was a photo of Meatloaf
I was thinking the same thing.
Oh my god — Mark Hamill looks like Elton John!
I was thinking Meatloaf…
That car accident kind of FUBAR’d his good looks a long time ago. Not surprising he hasn’t aged gracefully. His Joker voice is indeed the greatest thing ever.
I would be willing to give it a chance. He should go for it!
It looks like he over induldged in the dark side.
I do believe he’s starting to look like one of those shady characters in the cantina in .. oh, please, I’m so not a superfan, you know what I mean if you’ve seen the movies even once.
Time has not done him well.
God, I feel old.
What did the article say? I was too shocked from his picture to concentrate on reading. Apparently the stress of being one of the last Jedi’s has caught up with him.
Not being shocked about the picture (I’m a DCAU fan and have seen multiple interviews with him about Joker stuff), I have to say I hope he does it.
I support anything this man does! And come on, people – he filmed the Star Wars movies a LONG time ago, and as was mentioned, that car accident was not gentle with his face – to the point where they had to have a wampa slash him so that there’d be reason for Luke to have scars on his face, since Mark had them. So he’s a bit older and grayer and droopier – that’s what will happen to most of you if it hasn’t already. Give the man a break. I think he looks just fine. I’d say Shatner’s looks changed much more drastically, although I’ll grant you that they’ve had longer to do so.
I agree… the man is awesome. He was my ‘boyfriend’ when my best friend and I played Star Wars when I was 8. I just wish they would have found a better picture so it wouldn’t have been distracting to the story.
Mark is almost 60 now- and I don’t think he looks it. When his age most of you are, look as good you will not! At least he’s not so vain that he botoxed himself to stay ‘young’. He has talent, he’s stayed working in the industry and there has been NO scandal about him or his family in 30 years- who can say THAT in Hollywood? I don’t care for the genre of his comic, but I wish him well and much success. He has given the world much joy and his immortality is secure. He was beautiful in film, and is still a fine looking, good man. Anyone see ‘grandpa’ Ford’s face lately-YIKES! Congrats, Mark, luv ya!
TO MELANIE:You are the kind of fan any actor could be proud of.I know Mark would be glad,as I am,to read your post. You’re the type of woman I’d be glad to come home to at the end of the day.
