Image Credit: Discovery ChannelDeadliest Catch returns to Discovery tonight (9 p.m. ET) with the premiere of Season 6 — the one Capt. Phil Harris was filming when he died. “This weather here is storybook. I mean, this doesn’t ever happen to us. This is the flattest king crab season I’ve ever had,” he says from his chair aboard the CorneliaMarie and above calm seas in one clip. “We’re gonna pay for that.” As if that wasn’t foreboding enough, the clip then cuts to Capt. Sig Hansen on the Northwestern: “This is pretty unexpected. The weather’s been unexpected, you know, the temperatures. What is this, some omen or somethin’?”‘ Watch it after the jump.
A second clip has Phil’s sons, Josh and Jake, fighting on the boat as usual. Josh is shown finishing a call on his cell phone. It sounds like he’s accepting a job on another boat. “I’ll be honest with ya, maybe I do need a change from this boat for a little bit… ‘Cause I’m gonna kill Jake. I will literally end up beatin’ the living s— out of him,” he tells his father afterward. “And I don’t want you to think any less of me. But, you know, I might need to just try somethin’ new for a while.”
“I hope you don’t decide to do that,” Phil says, “because if you do, you might not get back on here.” I’m watching with tissues.

This is going to be a really hard season to watch. The one saving grace is that it’s a Discovery Channel show and not a FOX reality show so Capt Phil’s death should be handled well and not gimmickly promoted.
I agree. I already miss Captain Phil. I too hope Discovery plays honor to him and not just to make good tv. It breaks my heart. He was the best.
I’ve seen the 30 promo for Tuesday’s episode and it chokes me up. I miss Phil already. Just so long as they treat the matter with respect and the straight-forward honesty that Phil often displayed, I’ll be alright with it. RIP Capt
Captain Phil was my favorite captain! He was the spirit behind the show.
Miss you Phil!
I have to agree capton Phil was the spirt of the show It was an honor to have watch him do what he did best r.i.p. Phil Harris!
this season is going to be so sad. I don’t know how to feel about it. Usually I get really excited for Deadliest Catch, but I feel weird getting excited for this season. And why does it have to be on at the same time as Lost and Glee. I need ATT Uverse… Lucky for me, Discovery replays it a bunch of times.
Discovery always reairs the new episode at either midnight or 1am on tuesday nights. You could set your dvr for that airing.
I feel that same as the rest of ya!! Phil was always a straight shooter!! RIP Phil Harris.
Deadlest catch isn’t starting on April13 at all. It’s starting next week according to Discovery schedule. So misleading and disappointing.
I’m not sure where you got your (mis)information, but I hope you didn’t miss it!
It’s gonna be hard not to cry for sure. RIP Capt. Phil.
It’s going to be bittersweet for sure. Watching those boys with their dad and knowing what’s coming. So sad!
I’m a boater in Pensacola FL, I’ve watch’d from the beginning. It is so sad that Capt Harris, past… God Bless you, the Harris family
I think this will be a very hard season to watch. I just enjoyed watching Capt. Phil with his boys. He loved them so much, he wanted to teach them eveything he could so they would be safe when they went out alone.
I miss you Phil, you were awesome.
I watch the show and I fish in the Gulf of Mexico and use to fish trap 100 sometimes 200 miles south of Miami, the traps we uses were very much the same as the crab traps,Capt Phil was a tuff Capt and I really will miss watching the show without him, Maybe now he is with the crab gods watching over all fisherman.God Bless Capt Phil and Family
Just watched the premier of this season. Looks like it is going to be a great season except that Phil is gone. If you pay attention during the intro you will see that Discovery is going to apparently cover Phil’s passing. Knowing Discovery it will be tasteful and respectful.
Mike Rowe wrote a beautiful “eulogy” even though he does not call it that. You can find it at http://www.mikeroweworks.com/2010/02/captain-phil/
Captain phil was a great man. And a great father. I hope jake and josh carry out his legacy and make him proud cause that’s what he wanted his sons to be. I really they got it in em to carry that out. I wish had a father like phil. He was the best and family and his crew meant everything to him. R.I.P to the best captain and father. God bless, alan brockelman. I wish jake and josh could read this. They r good brothers to each other and josh look out for ur lil bro.. good luck out there
Wow, that was hard to watch. he sent his son to another boat and we all know the outcome. I was excpeting a tribute but I’m sure it will come, hopefully with grace. It’s a great show from the beginning. A little less of the bickering would be nice. The work and hardship alone is enough. Life is full of conflict. God Bless Cptn. Phil and the boys.
This will be a tough season to watch…Capt. Phil reminds me of my Father! He was such a GREAT Man!! I’m going to cry for sure…more than once! I love you Capt. Phil Harris!! RIP
