William Shatner hosts 'Weird or What' for Discovery

Today, William Shatner announced that he’ll host a reality show called Weird or What for the Discovery Channel in the U.S. and the History Channel in his native Canada. According to Variety, “It will examine and analyze some of the weirdest unsolved cases around the world — ranging from paranormal phenomena, medical oddities and bizarre natural disasters.” Shatner said the show would present science in a “light-hearted, jaunty way.”

I’m all for this because it reminds me of his Emmy-nominated documentary How William Shatner Changed the World. Granted, that was great because it told you definitively how Star Trek influenced the inventor of the cell phone, NASA’s chief propulsion engineer, a top neurosurgeon, and one of the brains behind QuickTime. (Watch cellphone inventor Martin Cooper describe the epiphany he had watching Captain Kirk talk on his Communicator after the  jump.) But as long as Weird or What poses theories that could possibly solve those cases, it should be worth watching…

How William Shatner Changed the World was great. As for the new show, I’m not that enthused — it seems like one of those shows that I will watch it if I happen to notice that it’s on.

I know writers and directors ‘made’ Star Trek — and made their money. But the actors are the ones who made it come to life — yet got screwed. For their enteraining and inspiring me, I’d watch almost anything any of the original cast are a part of and applaud them for it.
And if it’s good to boot, bonus!
    You go Bill!

On the show, aired Sept. 8, 2010, has anyone considered that the “bloop” sound in the ocean near the Antarctic might have been some kind of engine starting up like a “UFO”?

On the episode where the skull is abnormally shaped and some scientists are claiming it is alien, why could it not be subjected to a dna test. They have done this with very ancient bones?

Hi William, check out 50.8153 Lat. and 105.03153 Long. north of Pelican Pointe- Last Mountain Lake on google earth and you will see the image of a Culdee monk. Local archeologists say it was made out of a white clay that turns florescent when wet. The peninsula was a Culdee monk motte and bailey timber castle type monastery. It was found in Oct.2002

The figure marks an ancient Culdee Dublin-Viking burial. The figure of the man is in the form of a quadrant astrolabe.
