'Modern Family' adult stars all submitting for Supporting Emmys

modern-familyImage Credit: Bob D'Amico/ABCThe six adult stars of ABC’s Modern Family are all expected to submit their names for consideration in Emmys supporting categories, according to Deadline’s Mike Fleming. That was one of the four scenarios the cast was said to be considering last week. The move shows their commitment to the concept of an “ensemble comedy” but could cost someone a nomination. I’m particularly concerned about the men: Ty Burrell and Ed O’Neill (who was never nominated for Married… With Children) are shoe-ins, so that could mean Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson will be headlining our EWwy Awards for the Emmy snubbed.

What’s your best guess? Who’s in? Who’s out?

I truly believe that everyone in this show is worthy of a nomination. Ty Burrell, Ed O’Neil, and Eric Stonestreet particularly deserve recognition in my opinion. I know it’s unlikely they will all be nominated. I do agee that the cast made the right decision. They are supporting actors.

    • Klaus

They probably are right with this decision. Alec Baldwin and Tina Fey are gonna win the Emmys for comedy leads, no doubts about that.

      • Josh

Bummer because Amy Poehler is sooo funny on Parks and Rec, she should definitely be up for consideration.

  • MiaRW

Just as long as Modern Family wins for Best Comedy because, really, there is no better comedy on TV right now.

    • allie

      Glee. Will. Win.

    • Diana

I’m as much of a fan of Glee as I am of Modern Family, but in the Best Comedy Category I’ll be pulling for Modern Family.

      • BH

I hope Modern Family wins over Glee! I know it’s between the two, but Glee has a better chance because its flashy. Modern Family is much funnier and is much more of an ensemble. To me Glee is the weakest of the bunch; Parks and Rec, 30 Rock…they’re all much more deserving.
Anyways, this is what the cast of Friends did in terms of emmy submittions.

  • Kate

Probably what is the fairest is that none of them win and the show wins best comedy. That actually seems to be a no brainer (and let Busy Philips from the show that follows them win as best supporting actress)

    • KT

Noooo…the GREAT, fabulously funny Jane Lynch needs to win supporting actress.

    • Meredith

Busy Phillips is so fantastic on Cougar Town! I would be so happy is she was nominated!!!!

  • PeterBilt

Great! I hope none of them win. Its ok to not like this show people.

    • Derek

I agree, but I don’t think those who like it only do so because they think it’s not okay to dislike it. I don’t see you changing too many minds with your comment.

      • Ceballos

Yeah, I don’t know about anyone else, but I like the show because all the actors are excellent and because the writing is warm without sacrificing any sharpness…not because other people like it.

    • Jason

Of course it’s OK, but it shows a lack of taste and sense of humor.

    • Johnification

You’re right, it’s completely ok to not like this show. I, however, love it immeasurably, and look forward to seeing several Emmy nominations!

    • whatevs

Don’t worry. We’re not like Two and a Half Men fans who curse you out if you say anything less than stellar about our beloved show.

  • Mike

As long as Ty Burnell WINS, we’ll call it a wash. That said, having all 4 of them nominated would be amazing!

  • Oscar Chip

    No love for Rico!?!

  • GoMe!

I really hope Sophia Vergara is nominated. I think it’s gonna be tough because I feel like Emmy voters are going to be more inclined to vote for “the traditional mom” Julie Bowen-not that she wouldn’t deserve it. Julie’s great, but Sophia’s the funnest thing about the show!

And I really think Eric Stonestreet should be nominated over the other 3 actors. His character is so dynamic and funny. Again, all 4 guys deserve the nomination but Eric…is the second funniest thing about the show!

If only there was a “best cast” award…

    • Danny

Hopefully they’ll get best ensemble from the SAG awards. They were nominated last time but lost to GLEE, another strong comedy ensemble…

      • Ana

Glee is a strong music ensemble. I’m not convinced that the acting and writing is as good as on Modern Family.

      • carr

Right on Ana. Glee is a blast. tons of fun. but the writing and acting is sooo sharp on Modern Family.

    • laurie

      Agree Cam is my hero.

    • Diana

Go around. We’re recreating a faux pas!

    • carr

Eric Stonestreet is hilarious. But I feel like, of Burrell, O’neill, and Stonestreet, Cam will be the one left out. O’Neill has the resume, burrell has the super wackiness with a heart. stonestreet has that too, but somehow I feel he’ll be the one left out.
No disrespect to Ferguson either. He plays his character fantastically.
As for the ladies, Sofia Vergara is just sooo funny. although. so is julie bowen!! oh no!!!
      ahhh. so good.

  • Ceballos

It’s probably the best thing to do for solidarity’s sake, but I still would like to have seen AT LEAST O’Neill in the leading category, opening up an extra slot in the Supporting Actor category.

I hope they’re shoo-ins, but I wouldn’t bet any money on it – not when the Emmys seem to nominate the likes of Jeremy Piven and Jon Cryer out of habit.

  • Craig

the 3 kids from “The Middle” all should be nominated for supportting, they are the best child actors working today!

    • Rock Golf

The 4 kids. But particularly Rico Rodriguez II as Manny.
Hell, I love the show so much I’d nominate the lil’ potsticker.

      • wWoWw

Craig is talking about “The Middle” not “Modern Family.”

    • tma

agreed! The Middle doesnt get near enough positive attention. The Valentines episode and the one with Brook Sheilds were the two funniest episodes of any show I’ve seen in years.

  • Jason

What about Manny? He deserves a nom as much as anyone else on the show!

  • Michael

Modern Family is good and I like it a lot, but Parks and Recreation is way better.

    • Carlos

      Parks & Rec sucks.

      • Matthew Thomas

Parks and Recreation does not suck. Please stop watching Two and a half men and check it out. Its really blossomed into one of television’s funniest shows.

    • GoMe!

What does Park and Recs have to do with ANYTHING?!

  • Carlos

All MF actors will bow down the to the greatness of Charlie Day from “It’s Alaways Sunny in Philadelphia.”

    • Bill S

Charlie belongs in the LEAD actor category. I’d like to see Caitlin Olsen snag a nom as well.

  • Ryder Kessler

Stonestreet and O’Neill are in — Burrell and Ferguson are out.

Vergara and Bowen are both in.

  • Jonathan F.

I really don’t see how Burrell and O’Neill’s former recognition can stop Eric Stonestreet from getting a nomination. He is the most deserving.

  • Carol

There should be a “best ensemble cast” category. I think MF is funny and it works because all the actors complement each other.
