'Totally Lost': Get the goods on 'The Package' and a few teasers for tonight's episode of 'Lost'

totally-lostImage Credit: Mario Perez/ABCIt’s time to unbutton our shirts just a little and get comfortable, because we’re about to unwrap “The Package,” a.k.a. last week’s episode of Lost, which featured [SPOILER ALERT!] a mature-audiences-only Sideways story for Jin and Sun, as well as an Island adventure that brought back Desmond and took away Sun’s English. After Yunjin Kim introduces this installment of Totally Lost with a bit of mystery, we get Lost in translation, discussing everything from surprise Sideways guests to Sun’s language barrier to why Widmore transported Desmond to the Island. We also offer teasers for tonight’s episode of Lost, “Happily Ever After,” and an analysis of a certain promo strategy. (Note: Turns out that the great Stephen Colbert already beat us to the punch, but what can we say? If we can’t be as timely, let’s at least be not as funny.) After you watch, tell us below: Where do you think the Sideways story is going? Which blast from the past would you most like to see in the Sideways world? What did you make of Sun’s aphasia? And how does Desmond fit into Widmore’s plan?

(P.S.: If you have any trouble viewing videos in PopWatch or if you’re on an iPhone/iPad, head over to the Totally Lost hub to see Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. For more diversion, follow @ewdocjensen@dansnierson, and our magic-making producer/editor/spiritual counselor @ewjasonaverett.)

it’s in! let’s go watch it!

    • Ne Oublie

In the Sideways world I would like to see Vincent happily riding around on a Roomba! And second, I would like to see Tom Friendly as Benjamin Linus’ boyfriend.

  • Jacob

I love the constant slapping of Claire.

    • LOL

Awesome! Sabbath Vol. 4 in the background. \m/ \m/

      • lisa

Yes, very cool! Althought not their best album. Nothing beats the first album. The Wizard is awesome! I also like Never Say Die, but that’s just me.

    • Vighorois

Why, because you’re Team Edward? lol

      • LOL

        Huh?

    • Dave

Not only the constant slapping of Claire, but also the constant shooting of patchy. Hilarious!

      • Nshi

I’m glad to see that murder and violence against women amuse you. Maybe they could show you some children being abused next time.

      • elizabeth

I’m not overfond of the Claire-slapping, but I am so over the “Claire as Rousseau” thing. Bring back Claire and bring back Rousseau! OTOH, the Patchy shooting was some great sideways mirroring as well as poetic justice. Too bad Charlie couldn’t be there.

      • Kevin

Nshi – you are an idiot.

  • Shayan

Can’t wait. Desmond episodes are probably the best centric episodes of any character.

    • plum

      spooky science galore!

    • pop

i totally agree. they always have a great balance of the science part of the show and the emotional. so excited.

    • elizabeth

Agreed. When I saw Desmond was “the package” and heard that the ep tonight is being ranking with “The Constant” (that’s some serious hype to live up to, we’ll see), I was very psyched. And how about zombie Sayid being the first to see Desmond? Wonder if that will shake him out of his torpor (whatever the heck THAT is), considering their teamwork in The Constant. One can only hope….

  • plum

oh and Doc? I wouldn’t let that Black Sabbath lp to
long by the window, the sun will damage it.

  • mtraptor

    Needs more Keamy.

    • Coise

      ….and a little more cowbell…

      • rlc

Now, THAT’S funny! Haven’t laughed that hard in a while. Thanks!!

  • Steve

I don’t get any sound for the 2nd segment.

    • cee

I have sound when it’s on small screen… but when I switch to full screen I have no sound. Weird.

  • Ted

I think Sun losing her english is related to the fact that she doesnt speak english in sideways world. I believe that the 2 worlds are affecting eachother i.e. Casimir Effect and they are getting closer together and desmond is their to somehow converge the two

    • plum

at L***pedia, they seem pretty sure the 2 worlds WILL merge.

Maybe the end will be when in the sideways world, they all have a “moment” at the same time and all their memories of what happened on the island come back to them. So their new recollections will affect the sideway world which will become the “real” reality. Or something.

oh dear, i don’t even understand myself now!

      nevermind.

      • Ted

        lol i got ya

      • Bird

        lol plum that was awesome.
and Ted I think you may be on the right track…!

      • Ames

Perhaps it’s a Tuesday thing, but I was actually following you. Maybe when the worlds merge, they will be able to choose which path to follow.

      • elr

Maybe the worlds will merge when they are all in the same place, like the hospital?

      • teresa

Nice try, plum! That happens to me a lot!

      • ted

i think you’re using the wtong word..not MERGE but CONVERGE ( like the book jacob was reading when Locke got thrown out the window, Everything that Rises Must CONVERGE, MERGE implies they will combine Converge means they will meet up but only one will survive

      • Paul D

Plum, I think you are on to something. When the “merge” happens they will lose consciousness for 2 minutes and 17 seconds and then wake up on the show Flash Forward.

      • ted

Or Dr. Walter Bishop will use his Dimensional Portal to bring them into the Fringe world lol

      • Tim

Actually, “converge” doesn’t necessarily mean that the one of the two things converging gets nullified, just that they join in some way. Merge can be a synonym for converge — it just depends on the context.

      • Ted

converge can also mean To tend toward or approach an intersecting point. as in to cross paths not necessarily merge but to intersect

  • Sliemer2111

So I was thinking, what if the ONLY reason all the candidates were on the plane was because that had been a PREVIOUS plan from MIB to kill the candidates? What if that Plane crash was suppose to kill the candidates but somehow either Jacob or Whitmore prevented their deaths?

    • Skip182

Since MIB is the good guy, I doubt it. Yeah, that’s right, I just said that.

      • crispy

Really? People are still insisting this? Let me guess… you still think Richard Alpert is the Egyptian sun god RA.

      • Big Walt

crispy, someone actually claimed that yesterday on the Package’s recap message board.

      • teresa

MIB can’t be the good guy when he does nothing but kill people all over the island, people who have done nothing to him, like the pilot or Mr. Ecko.

      • ted

Neither are good or evil They are BOTH morally ambiguous. all they care about is the game they are playing not caring what happens to the “pawns”

  • SHS

I want to see Mr. Eko in the sideways world. I know a lot of people didn’t like him, but I thought he was a great character. Also…totally thrilled that Desmond is back. “The Constant” was probably my all-time fav episode.

    • YoYo

I agree, Mr. Eko was a great character. I hope they bring him back.

    • Mrs Alpert

With ya there… to NOT even have an EKO cameo would be a disservice.

    • allie08

Totally agree but it isn’t happening – the producers have stated that he is one of the few actors who will not be back. :(

    • Andrea

I don’t think that they are bringing Mr. Eko back…just something I read somewhere because of the conflict he had with the producers when he left.

  • A&M

Emmy’s better be given to Mark Pellegreno and Terry O’Quinn…and Titus Welliver and to Lost for best drama…and maybe one for Doc Jensen

    • plum

can anybody explain to me why is our good Doc convinced that Smokey isn’t such a bad monster after all? Is it a Darth Vader thing? His last words will be on the good side of The Force?
Moi? all i see in Smokey is baaaadness.
      bonne nuit, à demain soir.

      • Skip182

Because MIB is clearly the good guy. Why? Jacob: brings humans to the island to die, and doesn’t care. he creates the others, who then kill more people on the island. he keeps MIB trapped on the island…why? tells others that MIB is evil…why? he constantly interferes in peoples lives, but then pretends they have free will. MIB: wants to go “home” but Jacob won’t let him. after hundreds (maybe thousands) of years, decides to kill Jacob so he can go home. will kill anyone else who wont let him leave. will give others anything they want (and appears to actually try and stay true to his word) to achieve his goal of going home. has killed people while acting as either “a defense system” or “judge”, which appears to be part of his function on the island. at this point, we have yet to see Smokey do something reprehensible (killing slave traders, mercenaries, and zealots opposed to him don’t count) like crashing planes or bringing ships to the island so the people on them can die. MIB is the good guy, Jacob is the villian.

      • Skip182

Also, MIB is not trying to kill the candidates. He wants them to get on the plane with him because if they’re not on the island, they are not acting as Jacobs sub. He doesn’t have to kill them, just keep them off the island.

      • Lisa Simpson

I’m not convinced either is purel good or purely evil yet. A lot will depend on who actually ordered the Purge. There is something of an Old Testemant God or Greek mythology deity about Jacob. He plays games with people’s lives, all to prove a point to an adversary.

      • teresa

MIB and Jacob are both playing a game. But MIB is the electromagnetic radiation stuff at the core of the island, and it’s ready to destroy the rest of the world. He isn’t a real person, just the embodiment of the stuff that the hatch was keeping in check. Desmond was part of the hatch and he got caught in the explosion when the numbers weren’t typed in. He started seeing the future. So somehow, Desmond is different from everyone else and has been brought in as a weapon against the electromagnetic radiation (MIB).

      • Ronnie

I was taught in Catholic school that the Devil always acts like he’s a good pal…Jacob may not seem like a “benevolent” God, but there’s a reason some people don’t want to follow MIB…Flocke is just TOO “sympathetic”…very suspicious, indeed.

      • Ames

I would also add MIB could be the good guy because the people on the list to replace Jacob are people who when children are kidnapped, basically shrug their shoulders and move on with their lives, rather than try (very hard) to find the kids and see if they are all right. This has always bugged me.

    • Beth

I concur with the last statement!!!

      • lambpost

jacob hasn’t killed anybody, though. He’s thrown them into a state of nature, yeah, but the `pawns’ all have blank slates. Look at rose & bernard, that was cool what he did, or look at sawyer & juliet, both very damaged but allowed to heal their wounds on the island. -meanwhile smokey kills people non-stop, or do you forget that now that he’s in human form more, also, final example: Sayid, hanging around MIB has not helped sayid at all, he looks like a zombie.

      • Skip182

Sayid no longer feels the pain and despair that he used too. How is that not a good thing for him? Besides, he’s only going to stay that way during this battle. Once MIB gets on the plane and leaves the island, everything will change and he’ll be happy.

  • Joel

A mixing of Lost and 24, my two favorite shows? Already a winning episode of Totally Lost in my book! And yes, the hitting Claire multiple times, as well as the shooting of Keamy multiple times, is hilarious.

  • pop

great editing! i just wish you’d included “heeey, don’t talk about bacon”

  • treee

i hope the very last scene of LOST is a close up of an eye closing.

    • Mike

      I like it. Good symmetry.

    • md2020

      oooh-good one treee

  • Bob H.

Wow–you two managed to copy the Colbert Report’s V Clock jokes in their entirety and somehow manage to suck all the humor out of it. Great work! Way to be original.

  • SLPsrawesome

Doc, I heart you and your witticisms (and research!), but Sun’s “aphasia” diagnosis is from another good Doc who needs more accurate continuing ed. or just a trip to Wiki to clarify its actual meaning, etiology, symptoms, etc.
