Anton Yelchin cast in 'Fright Night' remake

Anton-yelchinImage Credit: Bob Charlotte/PR PhotosMan, the vampire craze is really digging deep. Anton Yelchin, best known for playing Walter Koenig’s character in Star Trek and Michael Biehn’s character in Terminator Salvation, will next be playing William Ragsdale’s character in a remake of the 1985 kinda-classic Fright Night, The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog reports.

The original was a pretty good combination of scares and laughs, about a young suburban kid who suspects his new next-door neighbor may be a vampire. As I remember it, the protagonist was relatively unremarkable, so the real questions for this remake will be who’s replacing Chris Sarandon as the bloodsucker whose powers include dance-floor seduction, and who’ll be taking up Roddy McDowell’s role as a late-night-TV host/fearless vampire killer.

Anyone love the original and is excited for the remake? Is there anyone other than me hoping for Hollywood to revisit Love at First Bite?

Love Fright Night. I vote for Lance Henrikson as the washed up tv host (McDowel’s role) and James Marsters as the sexy vampire (but I know that’s typecasting!)

      Spike, Spike!!

The original was great at the time. It’s probably the perfect type of movie to be remade as it is VERY dated now.

I love Anton! He was awsome in Star Trek

For the vampire, Patrick Wilson, for the washed-up TV host Robin Williams (if for not other reason than to pull him away from whatever horrible family “comedy” he’s about to sign on for.

I love Fright Night, and I love Anton. Perfect casting. I was expecting a “Hollywood has run out of ideas” parade but you guys are cool! I like remakes if they are done right, and so far I like this casting.

You need a hammy old school actor along the lines of Roddy McDowall to play the Vampire Hunter suggestions would be William Shatner, Chevy Chase, Tom Wilkinson or Mr Love At First Bite himself George Hamilton…for the vampire next door how about Colin Farrell or Jonathan Rhys Meyers?

Even though I’ve never seen the original, I’m kind of tired of remakes left and right. But hey my husband is in it so it might be worth checking out ;)

    “Kinda-classic”??!!?? Strong words from a “sorta-writer”.

The original,as usual, will be much better. I am tired of all these “remakes” that really sucks…But, I might see it anyway….

ME TOO. I SICK OF ALL THESE REMAKES OF 1980’S MOVIES THAT I GREW UP WITH. I HEARD THEY ARE ALSO REMAKING FOOTLOOSE AND WHAT’S NEXT? Fasttimes at Ridgemont High and Valley Girl?

Not a big fan of remakes but Fright Night was one of my faves as a kid. Certain movies should not be remade but this isn’t one of them. It’s pure fun!

“Apparently she’s working nights…But! She’s left a note-Mmmm MMMm Your dinner’s in the oven!” Who’s going to play Evil Ed?

    • Maeve

      You’re so cool, Brewster!

      • CineCzarina

Hell’s yeah, he is :) Who’s gonna play Evil Ed? That line is important!

      • XSE Drake

I like Fran Kranz who played Topher on Dollhouse.

  • Shamrock

As long as he doesn’t have that horrible accent he had in Star Trek.

  • Jackie

I vote for Anthony Stewart Head as the washed up TV host :)

  • XSE Drake

Fran Kranz as Evil Ed! No-brainer.

  • jybryson

Love to see the remake… Don’t think they can capture the camp and chemistry of George and Susan, not to mention the classic “I Love the Nightlife”,of Love at First Bite

  • Adwina Lambert

Fright Night and Love At First Bite… ahhh the memories tee-hee!
