'The Hills' exclusive: Season premiering April 27 will be the last

After six seasons of sex-tape rumors, Les Deux drama, and couture-filled trips to Paris, MTV and the producers of The Hills have decided it’s time for the sun to set on the reality phenom. “I think we’ve told the story of struggle and of finding yourself in L.A.,” creator Adam DiVello tells EW. “A lot of these kids have found themselves and have certainly embarked on different careers and different paths.” None more so than Heidi Montag, who premieres her much-discussed plastic-surgery results to her mother on camera in the first episode back. Says DiVello, “We tell the whole story. We pick right up where Heidi goes and sees her parents. And our cameras are there that minute the mother opens the door and sees her daughter for the first time.” Adds executive producer Liz Gateley, “It’s a really touching but heartbreaking scene to watch.”

Heidi and Spencer’s relationship will also be a major focus of this batch of episodes. Commenting on rumors that Spencer had been taken off the show, DiVello says, “Spencer is dealing with some stuff right now, and once he gets through that, we’ll be back to shooting with Spencer again. Bottom line is you will see him. He’ll be in most of the episodes.”

In the final 12 episodes set to begin airing on April 27 at 10 p.m. ET, fans can expect to see Audrina Patridge dating singer Ryan Cabrera and Kristin Cavallari dealing with rumors of drug abuse. “When Kristin was in Miami for the Super Bowl, there was definitely some late nights for her and some speculation that she might be partying a little too hard,” explains Gateley. “So we’re definitely going to cover that part of Kristin. We’re pretty much covering everything you’ve read [about in the tabloids].” Also look for Stephanie Pratt to be dealing with sobriety, coming off her DUI last year.

But will former star Lauren Conrad return for the big goodbye? Maybe. DiVello promises a satisfying conclusion to the drama that started in Laguna Beach — though there’s one ending fans shouldn’t hold out for: “I always joked it would be nice to see Lauren get married.”

Wow, thought this show would never end. I can’t say I’m not curious to see these final episodes. Even if I was more attached when Lauren ran the show, I was a loyal viewer since day 1.

  • Leann

I will only watch the episode if LC comes back. Really couldn’t careless about the rest of these idiots

    • Farok

LC is an idiot too, idiot.

      • Miriam

Farok, you’re an idiot. i feel sorry for you.

  • Bernice

I might watch the 1st episode if only to see the horror on Heidy’s mother’s face. As for the rest I quit when Lauren quit so I really won’t be watching.

    • Rachel

Me too. once LC left the show was pretty much over.

  • Drew

Its time. But like so many people, this show was my guilty pleasure. The show hits its peak in season 3, for sure. But i’ve enjoyed watching it, and i’ve continued watching even when Kristin took over. It’s crazy to see much Heidi’s changed since the beginning (and not just physically). Lauren and Heidi will stay famous i think (for different reasons). The rest will probably slowly fade away. Or get different reality shows.

  • Drew

Oh – and i think Lauren should come back for the final episode. After all, the show was about her.

  • Joanna Shealy

As much as I may not like to admit this. . . I actually love this show haha. Can’t wait!

  • Celia

I thought it was already over. Who’s still watching this disaster of a show?

  • Emily

Soo if Spence isn’t going to be in some of the episodes, is the creepy flesh colored beard going to be MIA too?

    • sally

No. Creepy Flesh Beard will finally get its own story line. Beard and Stacy the bartender will go to Cabo together and she just can’t understand why Beard won’t better express its feelings.

    • Lala

Don’t knock the beard. The beard has more personality than most of the characters, er, reality stars on the show.

I’m sort of in shock. But I loved this show and loved Laguna Beach. This show & Laguna changed reality tv. Look foward to the last episodes.

  • Mariam

I’m watching the entire last season. I’m addicted. I hate them all and hate myself for watching it, but it’s like a drug for me. To the point where here I am commenting about it. At least I admit that I like this trash.

    • my2cents

I’m the exact same way!!! I hate admitting that I watch this crap and I didn’t watch it for a long time but then I saw a couple of reruns on the CW and I watched every season online until I was completely caught up…UGH!!
