Christian Slater to shoot comedy pilot: If at first you don't succeed...

Christian-SlaterImage Credit: Bob Charlotte/PR PhotosGive him points for persistence, I say. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Christian Slater has signed on to star in an untitled Fox comedy pilot from Adam Goldberg about a team that cracks security systems. Slater will produced and play “the charismatic renegade who runs the Titan Team, a gruff ex-military misanthrope with a checkered past.” If it goes to series, it would be his third in three years after the short-lived My Own Worst Enemy and the faltering The Forgotten. The difference, of course, is that this latest one’s a comedy. I have to say, I much prefer my Slater light — witness his turns in My Name Is Earl, The Office, and Curb Your Enthusiasm — so I’ll be more likely to give this one a whirl than either Forgotten or Enemy. What say you: Is this a good move for him? Do you like your Slater serious or seriously funny?

He looks insane in that photo…and a little like Fisher Stevens (which, unfortunately, doesn’t say much about Fisher Stevens).

Anyway, I’d much rather see Slater star in a sitcom about an actor who was really famous in the early 90’s, but now spends his time starring in videos for corporations like Sabre in “The Office.” Oh well, Fox likes their gruff misanthropes, so this’ll probably do ok.

I totally agree, he DOES look like Fisher Stevens in that picture! This show sounds like a comedic version of the movie “Sneakers”, with Robert Redford.

      • Ceballos

I thought “Sneakers” WAS supposed to be a comedy. Ouch. :)

        Ha ha, touché!

      • Madd

        True, Ceballos, very true.

That was exactly what I was coming here to comment about. Now I think him and Fisher should do something together.

I liked the plot better when they called it “Leverage”.

  • Rod Steel

    I like the forgotten

  • Sue

I will take Christian Slater anyway I can get him..Loved My Own Worst Enemy, that show was starting to come together right when they canceled it and The Forgotten is not a bad show.

Agreed – My Own Worst Enemy was on it’s way to being a really good show, and it was a great showcase for Christian. It had some comedy within the drama, it was just dark comedy, which Chritian is great at (remember “Heathers” back in the day?). I hope the persistence pays off and this one is a hit. It eventually paid off for NPH, big time!

Fox and comedy don’t go together, with the possible exception of Glee.

      …and “Brothers.”

Their news division is the height of hilarity.

    • Madd

      Uh, Arrested Development?!

I’m with Sue, I’ll take me some of CS anyway I can get him. But I think comedy might be a better path to follow for him. I’ll watch it!

I really liked My Own Worst Enemy. It had a cool premise, cool action, and he was good in it. I kinda wish I’d been able to find out more about what was going on in that show. Stupid NBC.

I thought My Own Worst Enemy was a pretty good show but what do I know…

  • Todd

Dude really wants TV to be his career salvation!

    • Shurly

      Or he needs money…

  • Q

My god, why is Hollywood giving this guy so many chances? I feel terrible for the supporting cast and production teams of all these shows that he headlines and then dooms! He’s awful, the commercials alone for My Own Worst Enemy were inane.

  • Who cares…

I really wish Christian would just go back to the movies. He is proving to be a show killer and he just seems like a flat actor to provide any substance in a week to week format. Maybe go and give Broadway a try (where you will need to learn to IMPROVISE). In any case, give us – and yourself – a break between shows and just enjoy your time in Hwood.

  • Joel Barlow

This sounds way too much like SNEAKERS.

  • Annamarie Keillor

Don’t care if comedy or serious. Just want him back on TV. Love him!!

  • Kim

I will also take Christian any way I can get him! I do typically prefer him dark, however. Heathers is my favorite role of his.
