Since when do producers get to make acceptance speeches anyways? Its always the director because its their creative minds that actually make the film what it is. Producers are supposed to gather the financing and support and appreciate the final product, not take credit for everything.

It is funny how she goes on at length about how she was “certified” as a producer but fails to mentioned that she removed herself from this project. Does she suffer from an amnesia of convenience? Let’s just give that one to her for the sake of being generous. Ok, her name was called, she won an Oscar, she was a “producer” on the film. The way she went about speaking was completely uncalled for an unprofessional and she did pull a Kanye, so I am really not that concerned with how she feels about being compared to him. It isn’t ridiculous, Ms. Burkett, because you behaved like a fool with no class or manners. And for someone who was so gung ho to comandeer that microphone, we couldn’t understand a word you said, so all your huffing and puffing to get to taht stage were all done in vain. Hollywood is a tight knit community and you should have thought about that before your little ambush. Good luck finding that next gig.

BTO – “Since when do producers get to make acceptance speeches anyways?” Um ah…since the beginning of the Academy. When Best Picture is announced the Producer accepts the Oscar. Directors get their own Oscar. That being said she obviously has issues and probably won’t work again.

    I hate this b**ch.

Her behavior was repellent and she should be stripped of her award for breaking a rule imposed by AMPAS. ONE person gives a speech. She wanted nothing to do with this film until it won.

  • Thomas Dark

She definitely did. The senior producer is the one who decides who speaks. She walked away a year ago but now wants the recognition. Pretty sad.

Can we take away this crazy woman’s Oscar? Please?

My Oscar is just as big as his Oscar? What is she, 5-years-old? Sheesh.

  • vindikat

I don’t blame him from running from the crazy lady. Too bad she caught up. She said in the interview she wanted acknowledge Prudence but it was the guy who had to speak over her prattling on like someone let out Psych ward to introduce the artist. Can’t imagine why there was a problem working with her. She sounded just as nutty on the Joy Behar show.

She spent her 15 minutes of fame being a jackass in a rumpled purple dress.

She was an obnoxious, puffed up, self important, upstaging jerk. She is without class.

The movie would have been nothing without him and the same without her.

She will forevermore be known as the droopy old purple hag that pulled the Kanye on Williams.

She busts into an acceptance speech on live TV looking like a bag lady raving like an old drunk and she expects what?

An idiot of the highest order.

The real story as usual is not even being told. What you are really watching is the result of HBO totally coopting the oscar process with their demented need for oscars. They will do anything to get awards. Every film in that category was sponsored by HBO. In the case of “Music by Prudence, producer Elinor Burkett found the story but HBO didn’t think a white woman directing the film would help its Oscar chances, so they hired Ross, the black guy and used him like a pawn. Sad. Sad sad what HBO executive and Oscar whore Sheila Nevins has done. Shame on her and HBO for making a fool of that boy.

    • Haha

OH, and Burkett was gone from the project long before HBO got involved. Everyone involved in the film knew she was crazy. Now the world knows!

ummm..am i talking to 12 year olds here? i never claimed to work on the movie or know any of the ins and outs. and i find it VERY hard to believe that anyone here has any inside info either. what i DO know is what i saw with my own eyes on oscar night. a very rude man purposefully ran down the aisle and started his speech as if he was the only winner. then a woman, also a winner (this fact was missed by many) interrupted him rudely. he started it by being an ass and sprinting to the stage. she reciprocated by taking over the speech. both were rude but somehow she’s the only one to be blamed. and, alianna, if you know SOOOOO much about the project and you’re SOOOO sure she had no right to get an oscar, i think you have something to take up with the Academy because, apparently, they disagree with you. she went home with an oscar that night… which is more than i can say for you.

Heather, perhaps you’re talking to adults who have more familiarity with the film business. Again, I recommend you google “Nicolas Chartier” and “Hurt Locker” to educate yourself as to how a person retains a producing credit, but (when professional) understands that he/she is not the spokesperson for the film, and not “equally entitled” to speak, or even appear onstage.
Your nastiness to Allianna is uncalled for.

      • heather

familiarity with the film business doesn’t at all change what happened that night. despite what anyone’s opinions are about whether or not she should have been nominated, the reality is that she was. and that was the Academy’s decision. it’s their show. no matter what had happened in their past he, undoubtedly, made things worse by rushing to the stage like that and beginning without her. she was very rude in her response but it doesn’t excuse what he did.

      • heather

maren, i missed that part you said about her being not entitled to “even appear onstage”. you might have a point except for the oscar that was in the blonde presenters hands waiting for her. she even gave a confused look when Williams started while it was obvious his co-winner was making her way up.

The thing is, she left the project in a huff because they wouldn’t do it her way. They did it another way and it won the Oscar. Ir probably wouldn’t have won if Elinor Burkett had gotten her way. The man barely got out two sentences when she so rudely interrupted with her incoherent pronouncements — how could she know whom he would thank? Someone should have decked the biotch.

    • heather

in a huff? really? you were there to see this? and how would you have any idea what elinor’s vision was and if it would have been oscar worthy or not?? she was rude to interrupt him, for sure. but how can you deny that he was rude for racing up there and pretending he was the only winner? if he hadn’t done that, it’s quite possible they would have had a pleasant acceptance speech. now, we’ll never know because of how poorly he handled the situation.

      • Wow

So now people who MIGHT have had an oscar-worthy vision but who leave the project in a huff because they can’t micromanage are just as worthy as an oscar as the people who stayed through the project until the end? Well, DAYUM, I have an oscar-worthy vision…I deserve the Oscar TOO! HAHAHAHAHA.

      • alianna

By they way heather, I WAS there to see her leave in a huff. Were you involved in the project? If so, give me your bona-fides now. Who were the other two producers? Who was the editor? Who actually was in Africa? Who supplied the equipment? Who did the sound? HMMMMMMM???

  • rick

the guy should have held the mic up so she couldn’t reach it…would have been really funny seeing her jumping to get the mic off him.

  • Khainna

The director, Roger Ross Williams, is one of the sweetest guys on the planet. Here’s a clip made of him in the weeks before and after the oscar event:
