The cast of 'Eight is Enough' reunites and reminisces on the 'Today' show

In the fan-loving tradition of reuniting TV families on live television, the Today show brought together the cast members of Eight is Enough on Monday — some of whom hadn’t seen each other in more than 20 years — for a reminisce-fest that proved they’re just as close as the lovable Bradfords that they played. We caught up with the gang on the Today show set as they chatted about being together again and what they’ve been up to since the show ended. Check out what they dished about in the exclusive behind-the-scenes video below:

I loved this show. I miss all the shows that allowed you to watch with your children and laugh. Where have the shows like that gone to?

  • Buffy Freak

I used to love Eight is Enough…and Grant Goodeve still looks pretty damn sexy!

    • The Original Nshi

Well if they are still soooooo close how come some of them haven’t seen each other in 20 years????????

  • Jen Groh

Still my favorite show ever … and damn is Grant still looking good.

    • PalmSprings

      Agreed, Grant looks amazing!

Wonder what happened to the blonge daughter? I know she was in that movie 1941, but she seemed to drop off the map.

    • KJ

Terry – the blonde daughter was on the Today show via satellite from LA. They might have footage on todayshow.com?

I always thought Nancy & Elizabeth Bradford were the prettiest of the sisters. I remember the episode when David got divorced from Janet (she was a lawyer I think). I was so sad.

    • Belle

Oh and I was so sad when the mother Diana Hyland died from cancer because I loved her she starred in the Boy in the Plastic Bubble with John Travolta (they were dating in real life) who I had a huge crush on. I think she died in his arms.

  • Tomm

David and Janet reunited in a reunion movie in late 80’s.

Yes, I am glad the Today know acknowledged Diana Hyland! Show should have waited a bit longer for the dad to re-marry.

I wanted to hear about Adam Rich’s ongoing battle with drug addiction.

  • Lori Adams

And everyone probably knows that the oldest sister (Mary) died several years ago, I think of drug overdose but I can’t remember for sure. Did they mention anything about that? I didn’t see interview.

    • Patty

They did briefly mention Lani O’Grady’s death. Though no mention of why Susan was absent.

      • Jean Genie

Susan Richardson has had mental health problems throughout the years. Last thing I heard, she was a housekeeper in a convent or something like that.

      • jeffrey

Patty, Susan Richardson was on two episodes of the final season of “One Day At A Time.” She played one of Valerie Bertinelli’s roommates. Then she became tabloid fodder after she claimed that she had been abducted by aliens. (Honest, I’m not making that up.) I’m sure if you Google “Susan Richardson abducted by aliens,” you can probably find something on it. She also claimed in the 1980s that she was held hostage in Korea by filmmakers who tried to kill her.

      • Rich

Funny, but Googling “Susan Richardson abducted by aliens” only yields this page as a result.

  • EONs

Why isn’t Eight is Enough out on DVD??

    • Nshi

      Because its crappola!!

  • tim

Dianne Kay was and is such a BEAUTY!

  • Teri

Forget the Bradys, I’ve ALWAYS wanted to be a Bradford! Back in the day, my friends in the projects never knew of EIE and always teased me about it but I didn’t care….I always made sure I was in front of that television every Wednesday from 8 to 9.

Connie Needham looks great; I thought she was near death’s door, last I read she had ovarian cancer.

Willie Aames looks great too, so glad he’s finally got his life back on track.

Have been a fan of Betty Buckley since Carrie and always loved the Abby character.

I didn’t recognize Laurie Walters for a second, I thought she was Susan Richardson.

And yes, Grant Goodeve STILL looks hot, had the biggest crush on him. And for the record, David and Janet did not reunite, she came back to watch him marry someone else, a woman named Mike that the Bradford sisters intially disliked but welcomed into the family by the end of the reunion movie.

  • Samsara

Teri – You’re GOOD. You really know your EIE stuff. I am also a HUGE fan of this show – never missed an episode. I so wanted to be a part of the Bradford family. No mention of the last season with Ralph Macchio. I had the biggest crush on him. Gave me more reason to watch the show.

  • EJ

I don’t remember David getting remarried!! I guess the memory is starting to come and go now… :(
