Image Credit: Photographer's Choice/Getty ImagesSo today, Feb. 22, is National Margarita Day (thanks, Crispy!). That it falls on a Monday, the worst day of the week to get drunk (though the most in need of a holiday providing an excuse to do so) is just an unfortunate result of the 2010 calendar. However, it’s a wonder that a cold, fruity, summery drink such as the margarita is commemorated in February — ya know, the dead of winter. Personally, I’d be more likely to celebrate if it were June. But maybe that’s because I live in New York, where the sidewalks are currently covered in dog-soiled snow that sort of resembles a foul frozen cocktail.
Maybe it doesn’t matter, though. Americans on average drink 185,000 margaritas per hour, making it almost our patriotic duty to imbibe. And the truth is, in the time it took me to bang out this post, I planned my evening commute around a stop at the store for a bag of limes so I can head home and whip up a batch of traditional margaritas, on-the-rocks with salt (frozen mango/pomegranate-type margaritas are only okay on cruise ships and/or from slushie machines). Yes, my apartment is drafty and cold, but tequila is fun and there are no good hot drinks. So to hell with it. Happy holidays…

Your welcomed!
You forgot to lower-case the c!
Pipe down, you imposter! Mike thanked “Crispy” not “crispy”; so he thanked, me! Get your own username you troll!
LOL! You do make a wise point
Right now, this sounds like the best idea *ever*. It’s been a particularly Mondayish Monday. Looks like I have another stop to make on my way home! Mmmmm, tequila.
It is 70 degrees today where I live (no yellow snow here), so I’ll most definitely be having margaritas this evening. I prefer them Cadillac-style with a shot of Grand Marnier.
Cheers to all my EW forum buds.
Oh man, that sounds fantastic too. I might just have to add Grand Marnier to the list. And send along a little of that weather too! It’s cold with massive amounts of slushy snow falling here today. Cheers right back atcha.
Hmm, I had you pegged as a New Yorker crispy.
I got a bottle of Patron for Valentines and there’s still some left so I look forward to celebrating National Margarita Day.
Hey crispy – Big Wait sounds like a cyber stalker.
Nah, he’s a Lost fan with good theories.
crispy, you’re doing pretty well today! You’re practically on staff AND you have your own body guard on here. Nice.
Who tends to get bored and obnoxious…
Ambient, I will be running the magazine by the end of the week! And then, the world! MUAHAHAHAHA!
Hey crispy – when I signed on to be your cyber guardian, I was working under a set of assumptions that have recently come under scrutiny.
Base on some comments in another post, it appears that you may or may not be a person who values intimacy with other like-gendered individuals. While if true, such tendencies would in no way impact the guardianship, but will require some retooling to gauge whether or not a threat is legitimate. Please advise.
Retooling… I like the sound of that! You figure it out.
i’m really jealous of you crispy. It’s not exactly pleasant here in New York. I really could use a margarita right now, since work has been so crazy (I can barely find time to go on EW!). However, I had a REALLY bad hangover yesterday (my friend’s bachelorette party was Saturday…).
I hate hangovers, and they’ve gotten worst since I hit the bit 3-0. Whenever I get one, I affix myself to the couch and catch up on old movies. Yesterday I watched Happy Feet!
Holy Snikes! You’re only 30? How the hell do you know so much useless pop trivia? Were you a latch-key kid or something?
I started my hangover routine at NYU-stay in bed and watch Disney movies. Hangover days are slightly better now-yesterday I watched Sleeping Beauty (all-time favorite Disney movie) while my James Franco lookalike fiance made me pancakes.
TMI
To be honest, my 30th was a few year’s back. But to answer your question, I was an editor for an entertainment website for several years. And I’m well read. All of my friends refuse to play me at Trivial Pursuit.
Add well h#ng to your resume and you got yourself a deal!
Hey, did we ever meet anyone famous?
But of course. I was once thrown out of a John Travolta interview.
Pass. I only liked him as Vinnie B. and Vinnie V.
Anyone else? I gotta impress my girl!
Man, that makes me want to bake margarita cupcakes.
Ahh, some of my life’s best moments have been spent with a margarita in hand – or at least in my bloodstream.
I take mine rocks, no salt, with a dash of regret.
Cheers y’all – VIVA LA MARGARITA!
Really, Ambient? I take mine with salt and a lot of regret. We usually agree things (well, except for Twilight, but let’s forget about that).
Even margaritas could make Twilight watchable!
I think you mean “enhance the magical Twilight experience”.
Madd, most people are able to love me in spite of my Twilight obsession, I’m sure you can too.
As for the margaritas, the amount of regret is usually circumstantial.
Mechanical Bull = dash of regret
Mechanical Bull + missing articles of clothing + video = lots of regret
But yeah, no salt. heh
I knew there was a reason I was EW.com crushing you. You sound like a naughty little minx!
Nah–never regret the tequila. Best stuff in the world. Though, I don’t know if it’s because I’m a librarian or not, but people tend to be shocked when I do a tequila shooter in their presence. I didn’t think I was that buttoned-up. No bun and only semi-sensible shoes, I swear. Perhaps it’s the glasses. I have a cousin who still tends to dare me to drink straight tequila with him. I think he thinks he’s corrupting me or something.
Sounds like your cousin is a fox in a hen house. I’d be careful crossing state lines with that one!
Ambient, I do love you despite your Twilight obsession.
Best margarita ever is at a bar around the corner from my house. They use 2 ounces of really good tequila, 1 ounce of lime juice, and 1 ounce of their aguave nectar mix. It’s heaven, in a glass, thank you tres aguaves.
The margarita is the best drink ever invented!
there are tons of good hot drinks. rum cider and spiked eggnog, anyone?!
