Wasn’t the Yuko Kavaguti and Aleksandr Smirnov piece Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite?
The first Americans to skate used “Firebird.” Caydee and Jeremy, I believe.
Some of the scores were definitely questionable. I don’t understand the Canadian’s score, but there is very little chance they could medal.
I thought the German’s costumes were actually very cute. They were quirky, yes, but this is ice skating and they did look like little dolls out there.
Those blue track suits posing as costumes… those were hideous!
Shen and Zhao SO deserve to win, not only for how wonderful they are now, but for how far they’ve come. They were rough, rough, rough around the edges (no pun) when they first came on the scene. The other two Chinese teams’ costumes were AWFUL–so out of proportion to their programs. And is it just me, or is “Send In The Clowns” NOT really about clowns at all? Someone should tell the Germans. Finally, Canadians Dube, etc., should have scored below the second American pair IMO.
Gatts, A Canadian wins the Yukon Quest-boy you guys are on a roll. Congrats
Kudos to Jessica Dube and Bryce Davison returning to compete after their last competition where Jessica got her face sliced opened by Bryce’s skate on a side-by-side spin where she got 83 stitches. Personally I hope they hit the podium. They are not the best couples there, but they’ve overcome so much and hope they deliver the goods to at least get Bronze.
I agree that they have overcome a lot and it’s wonderful that they’re competing again but they do not deserve to medal in this Olympics. Not only did they fall in the short program, they’re whole performance was off. It’s just not up to par considering how many other good pairs skaters there are in the competition.
True, they didn’t do so well last night. But they get to try again tonight. Maybe even change your mind
The Ukrainian skater’s Will Ferrall impersonation was perfect, right down to the costume. And I also want to know who designed the skiing pj outfits. Have they been fired yet?
Anyone know the title of the music that Kavaguti and Smirnov used in their short program?
No, we’re not ALL rooting for Shen & Zhao. I mean, I want to, ’cause I like the fact that they’re old for skaters, and both they and Pang & Tong impressed me more than the other skaters (not that much really, but still). But I just can’t root for the Chinese. It’s like when I couldn’t root for the Russians no matter how good they were. I know it’s not logical and it’s nothing against any of the athletes personally, but there it is. Kinda takes something out of watching the skating, though.
I do not like Chinese politics. I DO like Shen and Zhao – they are fantastic. You should be able to separate politics, etc, from sports – even if the judges don’t always do that.
Yeah, I know. Like I said, it’s not logical, but for whatever reason, I can’t help it. (I also tend to start rooting against anyone the press tells me to love, so there’s that too.) I must confess, however, that they won me over as soon as I realized they were skating to the Albinoni Adagio – I love that music, and apparently choosing great music goes a long way with me . . .
The Canadians got a real gift from the judges. She FALLS and ended up in 2nd place after their skate. Now others did pass them, but it was just absurd to have scored so high when the U.S. team merely doubled a triple jump. At least we didn’t fall!
I like the Love Actually music and the performance of the American pair, but I didn’t particularly care for their costumes. His seemed more like practice clothes than competition clothes and the costumes of the pair did not go together.
speaking of the music i totally aggre w/ u mandi that it would be nice to hear the pieces mentioned @ the olypmic level, i know their was more talk about the music during nationals.other than the u.s skaters performing to ‘love actually’ i immediately noticed the canadians dube/davison skating to the violin music featured in ‘requiem for a dream’
I missed the Americans’ performance. Which song was it from Love, Actually? That movie has a great soundtrack.
It seemed to be mostly the Prime Minister Theme (the one playing at the very end of the movie when the little boy is running through the airport and Colin Firth is going to propose to Aurelia).
Thank you. I looked it up and the song is “PM’s Love Theme” by Craig Armstrong. Love that movie…
It’s not how well they skated, its’ how many times they fell and how well they recovered…..
Go Xue Shen and Hongbo Zhao!!! Tee-hee!
