'Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains' claims its first victim

Filed under: Reality TV and tagged: ,

The premiere of Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains unleashed some big characters and big challenges. Click over to my full recap for analysis and behind-the-scenes intel on what you didn’t see, but until then let us take a minute to pause for the cause and honor the season’s first ousted contestant, whose name will be revealed right after the jump. (Don’t proceed if you don’t want to know!)

Apparently, the rest of the Heroes tribe was not too sweet on Sugar, as they sent the pin-up/actress/burlesque singer home after just three days. Bummer for her, but at least she provided the first episode’s signature moment — flipping off the Villains tribe while completely topless. Hey, that’s girl’s got moxie! The Heroes had other problems to contend with besides losing the immunity challenge, as Stephenie (dislocated shoulder) and Rupert (broken toe) suffered painful injuries just minutes into the game at the first reward challenge. Meanwhile, over on the Villains tribe, Coach couldn’t decide whether he wanted to go steady with Jerri or Boston Rob — both options which completely freak me out.

So, after all the waiting, what did you think of the first episode of Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains? And how did you feel about it being stretched out to two-hours? (Too good or too much?) And finally, who should Coach start slaying…with his heart? Let us know, and make sure to check out the full recap and Jeff Probst’s blog.

What was that, next week?! Did Boston Rob get hit with a blow dart from a Pigmy that was intended for Coach? OR did he get tripped up by the camera man hit from said blow dart that was intended for Coach? I heard tribal drums from island to island that they are tracking down the canoeing escapee!! What the heck Island are they on this time anyway? Dalton nice timely post, 10:01 pm. I checked at 10:05 and I was right – a post was up!

      I think Rob will win

      • Survivor Blog

I think they will treat Rob like a winner since he married a winner. At least Sugar got the exposure she was looking for. Read more at my Survivor Blog: turnonmytv.blogspot.com

        Amanda is mad hot.
        That is all.

    • Am-buh

This can’t happen. He can’t be out so early. I’ll be stuck watching Rupert act like a grown up. It’s bad enough Russell is already hating on him…they need an alliance for viewing pleasure.

  • John

I’ve always been pretty fond of Sugar, so it’s kinda sad to see her gone so soon, but I’m not heartbroken over it. I just don’t know how much more Coach and Russell I can take. It’s like a replay of their seasons and it’s just getting old listening to them talk and brag about their egos. Regardless, I think this season is a great concept and will be very entertaining. Go Cirie!

    • Laura K.

That’s the problem with these All-Star seasons–no matter what, SOMEONE you enjoy watching will get eliminated pretty much every week. I’m a big Sugar fan, but I wasn’t upset to see her go–would have been far more upset to see a more strategic player, like Cirie or Stephenie, leave too soon.

  • Deb

I think that they should have gotten rid of Cirie, like Tom and JT were plotting. That mistake could bite them later because she is a bit strategizer!

  • Anthony

I hope it was Sugar sneaking a shot from a blowgun at Rob on the way out! Please let him be sent home so he can lose Survivor –yet again!

    • polly

Boston Rob’s the best.I hope he wins.

  • Dusen

Loved the 2 hr episode. Wouldn’t mind if it was like that every week! Hope my man Boston Rob isn’t forced to leave the game next week. That would be a bummer.

    • Trevor

Two hour episode was great! But completely caught me off guard- anyone else?

    • elr

I agree! I loved the two-hour episode. I don’t know if it would work well within a regular season, but this one had so much going on that it might be a good idea to continue, until more people are gone.

  • Paul

Good start, but once again they over do it with the ‘Russell Show’. We get it Russ, you think you are the best, blah, blah, blah. Less Russell as the season goes on will be great, but with this edit it could be Russell Show Part 2… ugh

    • Deb

Russell was robbed of the win in the last season. I didn’t like him personally, but he was the best player out there.

      • wakeforce

He wasn’t robbed. He gave it away with his stank personality. At the beginning at his final council, I was rooting for him, but his attitude at the reunion spoiled him in my eyes. The greatest player who ever lived? I don’t think so.

      • conroe_tx

I TOTALLY agree with wakeforce! Ditto on ALL!

      • Anth

Russell was and always will be a loser and he was far from robbed in Samoa. I’m smelling a Guatemala Steph-style “Yeah, he wasn’t quite as amazing as we made him out to be the first time” edit. And I can’t wait for people to start realizing how bad a player Russell really is.

      • RBlues

Russell wasn’t robbed. . . he blew it. If he could have mustered an ounce of humility during tribal, he could have (and should have IMHO) won. He blew it, plain and simple.

      • Musica1

Russell was NOT robbed! He’s an idiot savant at finding immunity idols and is a fast talker, but he didn’t understand the social aspect of the game at all. you’ve got to be able to vote people out AND make them want to vote for you. He only got half of it, which isn’t good enough. He didn’t deserve the win.

      • collinsl

I agree. Doesn’t matter how much you hated him, he was the best player. One season they vote the snake the winner because he/she played the game the best. Next season they won’t vote the best player because he/she is hated. This is the problem with the game.

    • sonny

I agree, the producers are still editing the show with a emphasis on Russhole-AGAIN!!!! I’d wish he get voted out, if only so the others get their fair share of face time.

  • Darlene

Argh! It’s killing me. What happened to Boston Rob? I can’t wait three weeks to find out!!!!!

    • a.e.

Three weeks??! Maybe I missed it, but its three weeks till another episode? WTF?

      • Carol

Survivor will be on next week. I hope Boston Rob isn’t out, he is my main reason for watching. Loved how he started a fire and Rupert couldn’t. I like Rupert but I thought it was funny.

      • RBlues

Yes, I just checked, it’s on next week. Whew! I almost had a heart-attack over the thought of waiting three weeks to find out what happens to BR.

  • Rara

Great episode! I loved how they focused on a lot of the different characters instead of focusing on only one or two like they did in Samoa (Russel/Shambo). I’m hoping Cirie, Jerri, Sandra, Courtney or Colby will win but I like pretty much everyone on the cast save for maybe Danielle who is a big question mark to me. Fantastic episode though :)

  • LiLa

Freakin’ fantastic start to the season! This is going to be fun. I hope that Boston Rob’s injury (?) isn’t serious because the game wouldn’t be the same without him.

  • Ron

PLEASE don’t turn this into “The Russell Show” again. I couldn’t stand him at first last season but then I came to love-to-hate him. In the end, I wanted him to win! But, his sour disposition at not winning last season has completely turned me off to him. And Coach. Tom was right, Chirie is and always will be a much bigger threat than Sugar. I like Chirie but she should have been sent home.

  • a.e.

This is my first season watching Rob play and I was pretty impressed with him…gotta admit.

All I kept saying at the end was, “Not Cirie…Not Cirie…Not Cirie…” She’s my favorite Survivor, ever, would have been such a blow to lose her so early on.

  • Yess

I really hated her on Gabon. I think it’s a deserving loss. B@tch.

  • John Debono

Say what you will but the Villains clearly need Boston Rob around for now. Between camp life and the challenges, Boston Rob completely owned the heros. If he leaves for medical reasons the Villains are royally screwed.
As for Sugar, sad to see her go and really hoped for her to be a dark horse because she didn’t have the emotional distress of dead dad in Gabon. I understand why she left but would have preferred to have seen her stay a bit longer.
Oh well can’t always be right, still a much better start considering my highly anti all-star state. (Sorry Jeff and Dalton but there is a reason why none of the fans Micronesia are back… they all sucked.) Here’s hoping we finally have a good All-Star season.

  • Juan

The editors are definitely going to pile on more Russell for all you haters out there: this season (20) was shot the month immediately after season 19, Russell’s season. When Pavarti and Danielle were approached by Russell with offers of an alliance when they first got to camp, both had voice-overs (note you couldn’t see their faces) about how they feared Russell’s strength and ability in the game and they should think twice before betting against him. They don’t know his game: they never saw him play. EDITING!

    • Juan

Juxtapose that with Colby and Candice’s lengthy conversation about trying to decide who had been on a season with who and what kind of player each was. You can definately tell they have fallen out of regular Survivor viewing because I feel anyone, a fan let alone a Survivor, who has seen all 19 seasons knows the narrative that has led to this season. If those two can’t make heads or tails of people everyone is already familiar with, and Pavarti and Danielle are already talking up Russell’s big game without ever seeing or knowing it, it is going to be another season full of Russ.

      • a.e.

Yeah, that was so strange. Knowing its an All-Stars Season, couldn’t they have at least hit up Wikipedia for a quick who’s who? I mean, we are talking a million dollars here.

      • ac

You’re assuming they knew beforehand which All-Stars would be competing. I’d guess they might have known who a few were, but maybe not all.

      • Terri

Really. I assumed everyone re-watched every season to get to know everyone again.

    • Barbora

What? How come they have not seen the Russell season? What the hell? The first season ended two months ago! They filmed the 20th season AFTER the reunion of season 19! So OBVIOUSLY they saw it…

      • sonny

        I don’t think so, Barbora

      • collinsl

Wrong. Saw and interview with Jeff Probst. The current season started filming before the last season was on.

  • Jerry

STINKS. Lost my interest before the 1st challenge was completed.
Tired of the nasty ones being glorified.

    • Dusen

Lost your interest…yet you still managed to stick it out for another hour and 40 minutes…and then take the time to search out this article and post how uninterested you are. Idiot.

      • a.e.

        ZING!!

      • steve

Just dropping by to make fun of the losers who watch this crap. Zing!!!

      • WRC

That’s kinda sad. Nothing better to do?

      • Jan

Steve you call it crap, but you took the time to look up the website to make of the “losers”. So what do you watch? Sponge Bob Square Pants?

    • Anna

Were you really watching, or are you making this up as you go along? With the exception of Boston Rob the villians were by and large being portrayed as an egotistical, lazy, dysfunctional herd of dumbasses. Quite accurately, in my opinion, but that’s beside the point, they definately weren’t being portrayed in a glorified light.
