Movie with James McAvoy = nice move, Anna Kendrick.

Golden Globe nominee and current EW cover girl Anna Kendrick could be looking at a best supporting actress Oscar nod for Up in the Air. If she were to win, she’d also be facing that category’s notorious career curse. That, combined with the fact that she’s so young (24), bubbly, and truly talented (you could see it even in Twilight), makes me want to protect her. Which could be why I got excited when I read that she’s signed on for a comedy with James McAvoy. She’ll play a psychologist who counsels McAvoy’s character, a twentysomething man who learns he has cancer. (Seth Rogen also stars, but frankly, that’s not as comforting as it used to be.) The film, directed by Jonathan Levine (The Wackness), begins shooting next month. Who knows if it will be good as it sounds, but at the very least, with an actor the quality of McAvoy in the picture, it won’t be embarrassing.

So to recap: Well done, Anna. Your ability to play laughs in serious-issue films should serve you well. Embrace it.

Love,
Your fan at PopWatch

Read the script of I’m With Cancer. Could be a really great movie if they stay true to the script & don’t melodramatise the cancer storyline.

  • cas

That is a seriously depressing premise for a comedy, but with McAvoy and Kendrick starring, I might see it anyway.

Love this line in the article: “and truly talented (you could see it even in Twilight)”

  • Joslyn

She was so, so brilliant in Camp. Thrilled that she’s breaking out into bigger stardom.

    • Thomas

Agreed. Fritzi was one of the only truly fleshed-out characters of that movie.

dont worry Mandi- she’s not going to win the Oscar, so the curse wont get her… that is, until she wins- then she’ll be chilling with renee zellweger, catherine zeta jones, mira sorvino, and even reese witherspoon… funny thing is, Mo’nique is going to win and she’s had the curse her entire career (and thatll probably continue too)

    • Ceballos

Two things: 1.) I thought Witherspoon actually won Best Actress. 2.) Where the heck IS Catherine Zeta-Jones?!

      • Linda L

        Probably doing more T-mobile commercials

      • paige

eh i put reese in their just for $hits n giggles… Catherine Zeta-Jones is chillin on broadway with Angela Lansbury at the moment… so i guess its not a TOTAL waste

      • paige

AND doing more t-mobile commercials lol

      • Ceballos

I totally forgot that she’s been “Getting More” ($$$) from T-Mobile for the better part of the last five years.

Ahh, Anna Kendrick and James McAvoy!? What an inspired duo! Count me excited. I’ve been in love with her since Rocket Science and with him since The Last King of Scotland.

  • dizzy

Good for her! And James McAvoy is pretty great.

  • DW

Wasn’t this script on the famed Black List? Should make for a great film if the director is up to the task.

  • laurie

Mnnnnn James McAvoy. if only every movie could star him.

    • Jess

Wow… you seriously took the words right out of my mouth.

  • kelsey

I love that James McAvoy will be starring in this movie.

(On a different note, what was with that slight to Seth Rogen??)

    • cas

I like Rogen. Unfortunately, he seems to be proving that it IS possible to have too much of a good thing. I think we’re starting to get tired of him a little.

  • Mary

I always said while watching those twilight saga movies that an underdog aka “The humans” or the actors/actresses that portray a human in that film will make it further then the people starring in it. Well, done Anna.

There is a limit to the roles she can play. I do not like her off screen hunger for fame. Those high heals, every secret revealed. Solocitating for ” followers “as she put it on tweeter. She will be boring very soon. TYPICAL.Zero originality

    • cjc

Well she is only 5’1″ so she pretty much needs the heals to not look like a child. She has been extremely gracious in every interview I have seen her in with a sarcastic sense of humor you must just not get. Also, George Clooney won’t go on any talk shows so they are using her to help promote this movie he said so himself. She is also the last person to mention she can seriously sing and was nominated for a Tony. In fact she seems embarrassed by it when others bring it up. So I think she is rather original in my opinion.

  • Ariel Bauman

She looks like Brooklyn mama. No class, good clothes and hair.. Well, she needs to shave her forhead. Overexciting and not very likable. Household type. Ambitions. She already manipulates Rob for her own gains.Bet she does not have a boyfriend. Men avoid big mouth like her. She could sell toasters on shopping network. I will not devote my time to movies with her. I think that her characters in Up in the Air and in Twilight were nasty, because that what she is. Casting peaple nad directors are not fools.Small town girl. Anoying. Did she chopped veggies with Rachel Ray yet?

  • ari c

Just look at her picture above with those hands on her hips. Self promoting diva.Keep it simple and get some college education ,so you do not start with “O my G-d”.

  • jodipo

seriously people, whats with the hate? are you all Kristen Stewart fans or soemthing?

I think she is far more talented than any of the other people in twilight, and its good that she is breaking away from that horrid franchise
