While Hollywood’s bean counters are all in a tizzy, scrambling to predict whether Avatar has a chance of smashing Titanic‘s record as the biggest box-office hit of all time, we here at EW are preoccupied with more esoteric questions — questions that reach beyond the mere philistine accounting of dollars and cents! Namely, is Avatar James Cameron’s best film? We realize there’s a lot of love out there right now for the visionary director’s brand new 3-D sci-fi-apalooza. And I think we can all agree that it’s a helluva lot better than 1981′s Piranha 2: The Spawning. But is Avatar a better movie than Aliens or Terminator 2 or even The Abyss?
Take a few moments to re-familiarize yourself with Cameron’s resume below and then let us know how you’d rank ‘em! (For the record, here’s how I’d vote — from best to worst: T2, Aliens, Terminator, Avatar, Titanic, True Lies, The Abyss.)
The Terminator (1984)
Aliens (1986)
The Abyss (1989)
Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
True Lies (1994)
Titanic (1997)

First? T2 shaped my childhood. Aliens is great also.
Agreed
1. T2
2. True Lies – the most rewatchable
3. Aliens
4. Avatar
5. Terminator
6. The Abyss
7. Titanic
1. Terminator (far superior to T2 in story)
2. Avatar (most engrossing movie since the original Star Wars films)
3. Aliens
4. Titanic and T2
5. The Abyss
True Lies was intentionally left off the list. Bill Paxton’s scenes are the only redeeming part of the movie.
1. Terminator (the story is far superior to T2)
2. Avatar (the most engrossing movie since the original Star Wars films).
3. Aliens
4. T2 and The Abyss
5. Titanic
Top 3:
1 Titanic
2 T2
3 True Lies
True Lies ranked waaaaaaaaaaay too high. The Abyss is definitely better than that crap.
Justin’s list is perfect!
1- TITANIC (always and forever!)
2-AVATAR
3-ALIENS
4-T2
5-THE ABYSS
hmmm, T2 was great but not as epic was Titanic or perhaps Avatar.
1) Titanic
2) Avatar/ T2- grrr, cant decide
4) The Terminator
5) Abyss
6) Aliens
7) True Lies- generic, okay popcorn flick
I like your list.
1)Titanic was great and it appealed to so many different people.
2)Avatar/ T2- grrr, cant decide. Me either.
4)The Teminator-For that time that movie was perfect.
5)I love this movie. If you’ve seen Avatar you’ll notice all the color schemes are the same as the Abyss. Still very cool.
6)Aliens and 7)True Lies, Bill Paxton stole every scene he was in. Both very good movies.
1 Titanic
2 Avatar
3 The Terminator
4 The Abyss
5 T2
6 Aliens
7 True Lies
T2 is tops for me too.
Titanic is safe in my heart and my heart will go on and on!
1. Avatar
2. Terminator 2
3. Titanic
4. Aliens
5. The Abyss
6. True Lies
7. Terminator
Avatar was the best movie I have ever seen. The florescent forest and awe-striking animation made me want to use my dvd collection as coasters. The 3-d in this movie has reached a maturity where the slightest movement will have me reaching to the sky like a blind infant.
Guess you haven’t seen very many movies then.
I agree with agreer 100%…i have seen a hell of lota movies and avatar was simply the best, it is better in every way, also looking at major themes.
Wow, what a sad comment on our times.
yea it is a sad comment on our times that people lik eyou can’t stop and appreciate an amazing movie when it comes out. instead you pick apart stupid little reasons to dislike it and be negative.
movie snobs are such douches.
Agree with Zach 100%. I personally put a lot on whether or not I like a movie on the visuals and the story secondary. If I totally cared about the story the most and not the visuals I could just read a book with the same story as the movie.
Avatar was one of, if not the, best movies I have seen.
Avatar was great, but completely predictable. If you didn’t know that the human would find redemption in the end by joining a nature-loving tribe, you need to see more movies. It was basically the plot of District 9, only on a different planet. Human becomes part alien…human feels scorn from humans…human realizes other humans are unfairly treating aliens…battle ensues with human fighting with aliens… C’mon people — best movie of all time?? I enjoyed it as well but if you’re claiming that you need to expand your movie library to pre-2000s movies.
AVATAR is in a class of its own, no comparisons exist . yet! Ok the themes a classic, But sheer visionary setting/colours/scenery and intergration of characters. not to mention fantastic 3d graphic quality. Be honest… wernt you completely enveloped in the story whilst watching? Best movie of its kind 4sure!!!
I totally agree with ‘whodat’, groundbreaking movie, total immersion into a movie like I have never experienced, and the colors, etc. Best movie in terms of technical feats I have seen (saw in Real3D format). This movie alone will drive consumer demand for 3D bluray, TVs, players, etc. Just imagine this movie plus online social components plus future video-game like interactivity on PCs/wii/consoles, etc. Will change our world, motivate us to turn science fiction into reality, because we know it’s possible, and this movie proves that. Did you see the computers/mobile tablets they were using ? As far as the self-reinforcement cycles of innovation through science fiction/product evolution, this movie will push that cycle leaps and bounds, just look at how the movie was made with real time rendering digital cameras. When I left the movie I literally felt “unplugged” from the Avatar world.
Im with Pappy3c and even commented on its comparison to District 9 (my personal favorite film of 09) during the movie (my friend agreed but thought the themes were more reminiscent of Ferngully which is completely true when you think about). I loved Avatar and the visuals are incredible but I did expect some better, more original storytelling from James Cameron.
Chris your comment makes me sad. Without a story you might as well be an infant amused by a flip book of pretty pictures.
Overall Avatar is a fantastic film and better than most but to put it ahead of so many other movies just because it pulled out the 3D card isnt right.
I think people that attack the story simply know very little about storytelling. That is okay too, to each their own, everyone has their opinion. However, the fact is that originality does not make the story good, always. Most stories have been similar for centuries, even many millennia. Usually it is just the background that changes, certain elements. Take Star Wars for instance, one of the most time told stories ever. The typical golden fleece story of the hero with mentor going on a journey, mentor dies, etc, this time in a galaxy far far away. Take Terminator… did you know that James Cameron was sued by one of the writers of “The Outer Limits”, it was settled out of court. Why, because the story had such stark similarities to ones written previous. Did he try to copy them, probably not. There is only elements of originality in most stories, some more than others. Originality can be good, but being 100% original is hard and often not the best at connecting to broad audience. These time told stories connect with people on a deeper level, like it or not. Putting something down for that fact is ignorant. A great book about the interesting ties to stories in the human race is Joseph Campbell’s “A Hero with a Thousand Faces”. It talks about how the same stories are told though out human societies even when there is no apparent connection to have learned them. Carl Jung might say it is because we are all drawing upon the universal unconscious in the first place.
awe-striking?
I don’t think this movie had anything to with politics.I personally believe this was a great movie, I enjoyed it very much so and it, to me was way better than the movies above although I do watch over and over again when they come on tv as I will in the future for avatar.
Pappy3c – “Avatar was great, but completely predictable.”
I think the same thing about Titanic
There was a strong message to the world in this movie: Iraq and its oil wealth beneath beneath its land that the Iraqis have all the right to defend. Well done James Cameron in shedding light on this important message through entertainment.
Titanic wasn’t predictable. The main character dies at the end. That said, I still enjoyed Avatar more.
I have to say, I do agree that Avatar was very impressive, right up along with Cameron’s other films such as Terminator, Aliens, True Lies (hey, I liked it), and Titanic. I do believe IronMan77 has a point; that the movie has a strong message regarding imperialism and foreign occupation. The whole setting of the movie reminded me of the colonization of the americas (I bet you thought about it too, c’mon. bows and arrows against guns?) Overall, an awesome movie and worthy of James Cameron. I’d gladly go see it again. Its emphasis on 3D and effects will have a definite effect on future movie development.
Anyone who says that Avatar is the best movie they have ever seen, well I hope you mean with ear plugs in and only using your eyes as the tools in which you interpret movies, because visually sure nothing is on its scale yet. Hence the length of time it took to make, but movies can’t be solely judged on visual scales because than your throwing movies like transformers into that pile of crap you call “the best movies you have ever seen”. That said I’m not saying Avatar was bad, I thoroughly enjoyed, especially in IMAX 3D, but its not making me go to the theatres for a second dosage, it’s like the giant roller coaster at an amusement park that everybody has to ride, but after that you go on to the next thing. I think people get caught up too much in the hype and it takes over their judgement. Movies are rarely good, pretty good, decent, bad, but not terrible. Nowadays they are either the “Best Movie Ever” or they “Suck”, I don’t want to point a finger because I’m a partial one myself, but as much as the fanboy has helped cinema they’ve destroyed the rating scale. They get so wound up in trailers and hype that they get sucked into this other dimension, where reason does not exist, no shades of gray, its only the brightest white to exist, or blackness of an abyss. So after all that rambling what do I have to offer you? What I’ve already stated, Avatar, while good, is not Camerons best movie nor the worlds. Once was enough for me, maybe twice when it comes out on blu ray.
With Avatar, the value is not in the story being told, but rather in the way that story is told. And the storytelling is superb, regardless of if the audience thinks it’s lame or predictable.
1. Aliens (my top 3 movies of all time)
2. Terminator (just enjoyed the 1st one so much more than the 2nd)
3. The Abyss
4. Avatar
5. Titanic
6. T2
7. True Lies (I was bored watching it)
Wow, so close. Not sure how you can put Titanic anything but last, but apart from that, you have great taste. T2 was a bit too corny for me.
I like these rankings although I haven’t seen Avatar yet. Terminator and Aliens would be my top. I need to go back and watch all of these movies.
Aliens is my favourite movie of his too.
Avatar is not his best film, but it sure is his prettiest one.
“It’s game over man, game over!”
Yes! Those are the exact same rankings I put for Cameron’s films, except I would maybe juxtapose Titanic & T2. Everyone I know loves True Lies but there are only about 10 min. total of that film that I enjoy and will actually pay attention to.
BORING!!!!!!
1. Aliens (one of the best sci fi films ever)
2. Terminator
3. Titanic
4. The Abyss
5. Terminator 2
6. Avatar
1. Avatar
2. Aliens
3. Titanic
4. T2
5. The Abyss
6. Terminator
7. Piranha 2: The Spawning
8. True Lies
While T2 shaped our childhoods, i definitely think Avatar will shape the childhoods of the current generation.
Definitely
1. Aliens
2. Avatar
3. Terminator
4. The Abyss, time-less.
5. Titanic, sorry it was unimaginative
6. True Lies, it was garbage
“Is Avatar the best James Cameron movie?”
Um, no.
Here’s my ranking:
Terminator 2
Aliens
Terminator
True Lies (I can objectively see that “Avatar” is probably better, but I saw “True Lies” when I was in the 12-13 range, so I have a disproportionate amount of love for it.)
Avatar
Titanic
(Never seen “The Abyss” or “Piranha 2.” Also, I didn’t realize until I just ranked them all that I actually like all the Cameron movies I’ve seen.)
I approve of this ranking. Mine is the same.
you need to see The Abyss- It is what I would consider his most sophisticated effort… BUT Aliens is definately my favorite James Cameron film and I still say the best action movie ever made. James Cameron is a fine director but I feel that his last couple of movies have been slight in the storytelling department and he is relying too heavily on old-school Hollywood storytelling with a mixture of top-notch production design. not that its the worse thing in the world, but I wish he’d just dig a little deeper- which Aliens definately was. I will say though, the man KNOWS how to direct action films and Michael Bay and Brett Ratner need to take notes…
Yeah, I have T2 #1 because I’ve seen it 100 times and it’s obviously amazing. On the other hand, I’ve only seen “Aliens” about 10 times, and it’s definitely a top 10 action movie of all time in my book. (Heck, it’s probably top 5). So what I’m saying is that you can’t really go wrong with either of those two at #1.
Now, I need to get off my butt and watch “The Abyss.”
the problem with the abyss is that the pacing is slow. its definately his most non-action of all his films. btw- i just wanted to mention the second half of Titanic and to remind just how suspensful and epic it was. sure the first part was overwrough $hit but i can see that boat sinking and still be enthralled by it.
Yeah, as I mentioned, just because I have Titanic ranked last doesn’t mean I hated it.
Sure, the dialogue is a joke, but detail he brought to recreating that boat (not to mention the kicka$$ boat sinking scenes) is on par with what the detail he brought to creating Pandora, in my opinion.
I used to work at a movie rental store. I remember there was one slow afternoon where my coworker and I camped out in the middle of an aisle and watched The Abyss.
I love Cameron’s movies…
And T2 has shaped how I see the world. It’s my number one on pretty much any list regardless of topic.
Good post. I’ve enjoyed the majority of Cameron’s films (I’ve never seen Piranha), and I agree that the storytelling in his last few films is a bit slighter than some of his more realized work, “The Abyss” in particular. Along with Michael Mann, Cameron is my favorite director. I know my time and money will be well-spent on what they both have to offer.
1. Aliens
2. Terminator
3. The Abyss
4. T2/Avatar (tie)
6. True Lies
7. Titanic
Ceballos, you need to rent The Abyss (Special Edition version of course). It’s one of my favorite movies… although I re-watched it a few weeks ago and the effects are horribly dated. Since everyone around here likes to bag on Cameron for stealing other ideas, The Abyss is essentially The Day The Ocean Stood Still.
I know, I know…I’m a big fan of Ed Harris, so I don’t know what the big holdup has been. I’ve also heard some great things about this particular special edition (when compared to the theatrical release).
Along with Blade Runner, it’s one of the few special editions that actually changes the story and vastly improves upon it.
I hear ya – I’ve got “Blade Runner: The Final Cut (We seriously, honestly mean it this time) and it’s totally worth it.
oh jeez i wouldnt know which of those Blade Runner’s is the real deal anymore…
I was just re-organizing my DVD collection, and I discovered I have 3 different copies of Blade Runner. (Not counting the laserdisc collecting dust in the garage). I thought about just giving them to neighbors.
did you just say “laserdisc”????
I am afraid so. And worse, my player is broken so I can’t ever actually play them again.
Special FX ALWAYS age badly. What looks spectacular today, will look corny ten years down the line. So as great as the spectacle is (and I really enjoyed the movie and the kudos it’s receiving), if it does happen to snag a Best Picture Oscar, there is a good chance it will be seen as the “Greatest Show on Earth” flick down the line.
i dont know- some films f/x still hold very well… Neverending story comes to mind… I honestly dont see how puppeteering effects can age badly
But better
And look at how amazing the 1930′s King Kong and Frankenstein still look as well as most of Ray Harryhausen’s FX and Willis S. Obrien’s other works. They still hold up. At Avatar they showed the preview of Clash of the Titans. The FX didn’t look as good or as real as the FX from the first movie 30 years ago.
Ceballos, Crispy and Paige.. Love your comments guys.. You know what you’re talking about and appreciate others insight.. Im not sure I can rank Cameron so well.. He walks a higher path than most Directors (I love Tim Burton, though he is heavily style over substance)
But I think I’d go..
1. T2 Best sequel. Ever
2. Terminator. Gave us Ahnuld and Sir Michael Biehn (where has he gone? sob sob)
Titanic. I hate myself for loving this film, and the 1st hour and dialogue was abysmal, but it turned around completely.
4. Avatar. Makes me wanna be blue. And Ive loved Steven Lang for years
5. Aliens. Masterful. None stop action, but not as meaningful as the films above it in my eyes.
6. The Abyss.. I love this film (Michael Biehn again) Can’t believe Im ranking it as low as 6. More of a story than Aliens, but Aliens did what it did better than The Abyss did, if that makes sense
7. True Lies. Great Entertainment.. But nothing more (And WHERE was Michael Biehn)
That was hard work. I need to lie down now.
Was Michael Biehn actually knighted?! Or you just bestowing him the honor?
I’m sorry, I do not normally comment on these things, but did Danny say that the preview for the new Clash of the Titans didn’t look as real as the old one? Because that claymation crap didn’t hold up even then. Puppets were a better way to go. The new Clash looks awesome. That statement is purely opinion and should not have been stated as a fact. Wow.
Michael Biehn should’ve been Knighted (despite not being British) And I weeped silent tears when I heard he was dropped from Avatar at the 11th hour for Lang, as Cameron thought having both Weaver and Biehn would make Avatar “Too much like Aliens”. D’oh
Tafflander –
Two things: 1.) I’m totally referring to him as “Sir Michael Biehn” now, despite the fact that he’s not British and that he hasn’t been knighted. 2.) In what universe (other than the “Cameron is ripping himself off” fanboy culture) would making something seem “too much like Aliens” be a bad thing?
wasnt Sir Michael Biehn in Grindhouse??? that movie is very underrated
Ceballos, I most totally agree.. Dipping your hat to your own immense movie is fine.. We can only pray that Sir (Michaels shorter nickname) will be in the sequel..
And yes Paige, Sir was in Grindhouse.. With the truly inspired casting of the great one and Jeff Fahey as brothers
For me it’s:
ALIENS (awesome)
T2 (man, Linda Hamilton rocked in that film)
THE ABYSS
AVATAR
TITANIC
haha, you mean Linda Hamiltons biceps! That woman could KICK-A$$!
I don’t really know where to rank ‘Avatar’ just yet. I enjoyed the film…but I have to be honest and say that I didn’t *love* it, as much as I’d hoped I would. Not sure why, but I think it has something to do with the characters. Loved Jake, but everyone else…I dunno, they just weren’t very memorable. Also, a bit too much Crazy-CGI creatures for my tastes. I’m fine with being introduced to one or two, but there were like so many, the oil-spill dogs (as I dubbed them, cuz they look like dogs who went swimming after an oil spill), the oil-spill tiger, the ant-eater horses, the hammer-head rhinos, the two different kinds of bat-birds, etc, etc. Too much!
Anyhoo, without further ado – here’s my list from best to worst:
Aliens (fantastic characters (Ripley, Bishop, Hicks, Hudson, Newt, still so exciting & the effects hold up really well, especially considering this came out in 1986)
T2 (effects still hold up well, action is still exciting, characters likable & memorable – T100 is still scary and creepy as heck and I love Robert Patrick’s hypnotic running – it rocks!)
Terminator (K, the effects are definitely dated in this one, but the love story between Reese and Sarah Connor is very poignant)
Titanic (I was in my mid-teens when this movie came out and this was the first movie that I had to wait in a long line-up for, I always cry at the end when she (Rose) is reunited with all the characters in the grand staircase. Great, great musical score!
The Abyss – again, the special effects are a bit dated, and the ending is kind of a let-down, I think because you’re expecting something more epic to happen, not have some peaceful aliens show up and stop a big wave or whatever.
True Lies (I know that it was supposed to be funny and all, but the movie was just a tad too ridiculous for my tastes, the daughter hanging on to the nose of the plane and all – what!? And aside from the first two Terminator films, I’ve never liked Arnold in anything else. He works best for me as a cybergenetic organism, I suppose.)
nubmer 2 t2
1 avatar
sorry didn’t read that you wanted ranking. Here you go:
T2
ALIENS
TERMINATOR
AVATAR
TRUE LIES
ABYSS
TITANIC
I agree with Justin’s ranking. Terminator and T2 were way ahead of their times and Aliens was the most incredible sequel to the World Class Riply Scott Alien. Avatar was visually stunning but definitely needs to be fourth….
I would put it in the following order :
1) Terminator 2
2) Avatar
3) Aliens
4) Terminator
5) Titanic
6) The Abyss
7) True Lies
I agree with that list, except I haven’t seen Aliens, the abyss, or true lies and so just remove those.
I don’t understand all the love for Avatar. The visuals were cool, but that storyline was so dumb and done to death. And yet it has a chance for an Oscar just because it looked cool?
On the best James Cameron movie subject, I would have to go w/ Aliens because it was awesome and because I hated every damn minute of Titanic.
It is not a dumb story, it’s a complicated story when you really think.
It deals with imperialism, ecology, disability, Irak, Vietnam, Indians, …
Did you seriously just spell “Iraq” with a k?
Um… the story is just as complicated as “Pocahontas” was. Note: “Pocahontas” couldn’t be complicated because it was a cartoon! Avatar’s story was horrible and overdone, I’ve seen it in at least 3 “epic” movies in the last 20 years alone.
Pocahontas is a cartoon? Sigh.
I think you need to see some more animated films if you think a movie can’t be complicated because it’s a “cartoon”.
@ Moka
Oh no, I got that all right. You’re practically getting hit over the head w/ all that allegory. I just thought that it was inconsistently handled (what did that MacGuffin stone they were mining for have to do w/ our dying planet?) and poorly executed story-wise. Visuals – A Story – D
I agree w/ you Dnninn, partially… i don’t think the story was dumb but moreso predictable… so maybe dumbed down. And I agree w/ Moka, it is very reminiscent of Native American folklore.
That encompasses my entire problem with this movie. It seems as though Cameron spent 95% of his time on the visual/special effects and only 5% on the story. The effects are amazing… but the movie is forgettable. It’s a shame becuase when compared to his earlier efforts (T1 and T2 (classics btw!), Aliens, True Lies,… even Titanic… Avatar just doesn’t measure up. In those movies… the story was extremely compelling and the effects enhanced the story. To me this is the sign of an excellent movie… when a movie can stand on its own merits without the need for all the bells and whistles.
I agree that Avatar was predictable but I disagree with your accessment of Titanic. I think that story was as predictable and cliche as Avatar was. Take away the great visuals of the ship and the sinking and that movie was nothing more than the same overdone cliche love triangle story that was been done hundreds of times before.
That being said, both movies are visual masterpieces that truly transport the viewer to another world even if their scripts only seemed to take a few days to write.
Agreed with Quirky
1 terminator
2 true lies
3 t2
4 avatar
how many times can you be original telling the story of a savior coming? yes it is a well worn tale, because it can grip you, it wraps you into a cocoon of suspension of disbelief that makes you want the story to go that way. why else would so many people say after no country for old men WTF? the story of avatar touches something within us that makes us want to believe we can be better. that being said, why would so many scientist not see the na’vi nerve bundle and the environment matine symbiosis as significant? gaping hole there dude
Hmm, toughie. Probably gonna go with:
Aliens
Avatar
The Abyss
crisp why you hatin on the terminator? lol
LOL They just aren’t my faves. But I do like ‘em! I own all the DVDs, even that gawd-awful Clare Danes one.
hahaha .. the Claire Danes one did suck, but JC didn’t do that one thank God.
i guess i’m in the minority that liked T3 (even though i only saw it once)… I wasnt a big fan of the last one that came out
It’s ok. I’m in the minority that liked the Christian Bale one.
T3 is underrated.
T3 definitely underrated. I LOVE that movie. It was so suspenseful! Salvation sucked and it was so boring.
I also liked T3. The whole premise of the Terminator story was John Connor would lead humanity’s resistance. And the final scene of T3 was John Connor taking that first step & accepting his destiny. Loved Nick Stahl’s John Connor.
I guess I gotta watch it again! All I remember is Clare Danes working at a pet shop and Ahnuld carrying a casket.
I liked T3. I also thought it was underrated.
Aliens is the best sequel ever made, for a variety of reasons. it was true to the mythology of the original while expanding it to be the best, truest tale in the series. It legitimized the female action hero. T2 is great, but once you get past Liquid Metal Guy, Aliens did more as a movie. Aliens.
YES!!!
I agree on Aliens. Is it weird that I wanted to be Newt as a kid?
“best sequel ever” Really? Even better than Empire Strikes Back, Two Towers, or Star Trek: Wrath of Khan? I’m not knocking your opinion, I’m just not sure if I could ever choose one movie as the greatest sequel ever made.
Nope. That would be Godfather II
Almost certainly
Agree that ALIENS is the best sequel ever made. Ridley Scott’s ALIEN was incredible and put women [finally] in the action business with the great Sigourney Weaver. But then, James Cameron enlarged upon the already fantastic premise making a film equally as great as the first one. Given that the following 2 Alien films were very sub-par, Cameron’s accomplishment was even more awesome. So happy Sigourney’s in AVATAR and grateful to Cameron for always creating strong, intelligent, and central women’s roles which he’s done in every film he’s made: Sigourney, Linda Hamilton, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, Michelle Rodrigez, Zoe Saldana, etc. Brava.
I’m a man, but I agree Kat — Cameron has consistently created great roles for women. Actually not only strong characters but frequently they are the *main* character. I don’t think he gets enough credit for this especially given the genre that he has worked in. Also, let’s not leave out Kate Winslet in Titanic.
Gotta Disagree….The Empire Strikes Back was the best sequel ever made…PERIOD. that being said here’s the ranking
1. Terminator
2. Aliens
3. T2
4. Avatar
5. The Abyss
6. Titanic
7. True Lies
Aliens — “Game over man, game over”
Actually, any James Cameron movie with Bill Paxton
“We’re on an express elevator to hell, going down!”
“Hey Vazquez, anybody ever mistake you for a man?” “No… you?” “F U” “Anytime, Anywhere”
“I hate to rain on your parade, but we just got our a$$e$ kicked”
my fave: “Stop your grinnin, and drop your linen”
“They can send me a bill.”
“Hey, who’s snow white?”
“All right, people. You heard the man and you know the drill!”
“a$$holes and elbows! Hudson come here.. Come here!”"
“Get away from her you B#*CH!!” Gawd I love that movie.
Ahhh, I say “a$$holes and elbows” ALL the time! Anytime I am about to head off somewhere I say “A$$holes and elbows, you know the drill!” (Rearranged the words, but still.) Aliens has so many great lines.
‘They mostly come out at night. Mostly.’
GET AWAY FROM HER, YOU B!TC#! Best movie moment ever.
The infinitely quotable: “It was a bad call, Ripley. It was a bad call”
Although it’s not his best, True Lies is the one I watch over and over again. Arnold and Jamie Lee Curtis were fantastic in that movie.
True Lies, T2, Aliens, Titanic, Terminator, Piranha 2 (never seen the Abyss, but yes I’ve seen Piranha2). It’s too soon for me to include Avatar.
Aliens is by far his best. It’s the best sci-fi movie ever, and among the best action movies too (and I’d count T2 among the best action movies ever, too).
Titanic is a terrible movie.
LIES!! Titanic is brilliant! My order would be:
1. Titanic
2. Aliens
3. Avatar
4. Terminator
5. Terminator 2
6. True Lies
7. The Abyss–I haven’t seen it.
Celia, I agree about Titanic and that’s a pretty good list.
Mine would be:
1. Aliens
2. Titanic
3. Avatar
4. Terminator
5. Terminator 2
6. True Lies
7. The Abyss (great beginning but the end ruined it).
Terminator 2 all the way. I thought I was the only one, but reading through the comments I see that people are agreeing. T2 was the effing bomb, great storyline, great special effects for the time, best action movie ever.
Abyss
Titanic
Terminator 2
Aliens
Terminator
And wayyyy down the bottom of the list:
True Lies
Gotta give you mucho respect for putting Titanic up there. I love it myself, but I got a rep to uphold! And True Lies is way down on my list too… I just never cared for that movie, though I don’t believe James Cameron has ever made a bad film.
im starting to think you looooove james cameron
He completes me.
Tell me about it.
I think I saw “Titanic” by myself during an afternoon showing four months into its run mostly so no one I knew would be there…to see me cry (a little).
I have to say that Aliens is my favorite Cameron movie, and probably my favorite movie period. To rank the rest:
Terminator
T2
The Abyss
True Lies
Titanic.
I haven’t seen Avatar yet (but I’m gonna.)
Ha ha Jennifer. Yeah True Lies is especially wack. I really like the Abyss, but I would have to put T2 and Aliens ahead of it. I havent seen Avatar mainly because I have no patience for people in theatres anymore. I have become crabby old guy at 31 years of age.
It’s fun watching in theaters if you get ahead in time and find the right place to sit. And the emotions generated can be felt when you are leaving the theater with the other people. It is not fun watching a movie alone unless you are with your sweetheart.
