The most-viewed movie trailers of 2009: Which is your favorite?

Yahoo! has revealed their list for their most-viewed trailers of 2009 and, not surprisingly, The Twilight Saga: New Moon was their No. 1 of the year. But the bigger shock was that the janky Lorenzo Lamas-Deborah Gibson flick, Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus (embedded below), beat out Avatar and Up for the 8th-most popular trailer of the year! Personally, I would have to pick either Star Trek or Avatar as the trailer I watched the most, with James Cameron’s blue opus (embedded after the jump) pulling slightly ahead. Watching it again, it still makes me excited for the movie…and I’ve already seen it!

What about you PopWatchers? What 2009 movie trailer got the most clicks from you? And what was your favorite movie trailer of 2009?

I watched the Where the Wild Things Are trailer more than I can count. I think I liked the trailer better than the actual movie.

Where the Wild things Are had a most excellent trailer and was a good movie. However, the most RAD and BODACIOUS trailer was Inception.

The WTWTA trailer was so great. The new version of “Wake UP” was beautiful. THe Inception trailer blew my mind. My favorites are those two and the amazingly bad-a** Kick-Ass trailers. The red-band, real trailer, and special Hit-Girl clip are mind-blowingly cool.

I didn’t see a lot of movies, so the movie (and it’s trailer) were my favorites in 2009. “The children, wake up…” AWESOME.

    WTWTA, hands down, best trailer.

      You’re lucky then!

      • paige

        extremely lucky!

Moon and UP were my my faves in 2009.

Harry Potter was the BEST trailer for me. It’s the only one I willingly watched like 50 times. And I already SO excited for the movie since it had been delayed for a year and we finally got to see something from the film! It was bliss! The HP trailers are always pretty amazing. :D

      too bad the movies sucked

    • dizzy

Yep, they’re amazing! I’m looking forward for a new HP7 trailer.

  • Watchmen

That trailer should have topped the list because of me alone.

  • Dave

I normally don’t watch a trailer more than once or twice. But I watched the trailer for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince a lot more than that. It was a great trailer. And I probably watched it so much since I was upset about the release date being pushed back. I needed to get my fix.

Legion and Inception – I was entertained by both for vastly different reasons. I know they’re not being released until 2010, but technically I viewed their trailers in 2009.

    • Cole9219

Really??? Legion. Doesn’t that have an old woman climbing backwards up a wall? It looks horrible. And come on…a deadly army of angels.

    • Via

Yes, really. Either you can appreciate the over the top craziness or you can’t. I didn’t get the impression the movie takes itself too seriously, so I don’t plan to either.

    • Celia

The special f/x in Legion are kind of sucky, but I do like the part when the angel, Gabriel is introduced. That actor, Kevin Durand, is one of my favorites and he’s so HOT!

  • Eyeball

Dude seriously, the part in Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus where the shark leaps out of the ocean and bites a commercial airliner in half and drags it down into the ocean was better than any part of Avatar.

Youtube it if you don’t believe me.

    • Stephanie Tanner

You are neglecting the best part – the Renegade himself : RENO RAINES aka Lorenzo Lamas

  • Ramo

Yup, Where the Wild Things are was the best trailer of the year. Helped in a major way by a great Arcade Fire song. The trailer was WAY better than the actualy movie, in which you can put me in the “colossal disappointment” camp rather than the “genius reflection of childhood anxities” camp.

  • jordan

i’m jumping on the hp6 trailer train!

  • Janitor

TBH I don’t watch trailers before seeing the actual movie itself (so yes: if I know I want to see a certain movie I’ll close my eyes thru the trailer in the theatre). That way the movie itself is as new of an experience as possible.

My most viewed 2009 trailer (after watching the movie): Watchmen, especially the Smashing Pumpkins one

  • wg

Technically it’s a 2010 movie, but as the earliest trailers were released by the summer for Comic-Con, by far the trailer I watched and re-watched most in 2009 had to be “Alice in Wonderland”.

  • Rachel K

The best has to be Star Trek with Avatar coming in as a close second. They both still give me goose bumps!
