'Survivor Talk': Russell says 'I wanted to cry' at the reunion

But were they tears of joy or pain? SPOILER ALERT! Read no further if you’re trying to avoid news as to who won Survivor: Samoa. (Seriously, stop reading if you don’t want to know who won.) Okay, everyone all good from here on out? Then awaaaaaaay we go.

Survivor: Samoa’s shoulda been winner, Russell Hantz, talked as big a game as he played all season long. And he’s not about to stop now. The morning after watching the game that he strategically dominated from start to finish be won instead by soft-spoken alliance mate Natalie, Russell was still fuming as he sat down for his big Survivor Talk chat. Obviously, the bulk of his ire is directed at a jury that refused to recognize his superior gameplay. Former ally Jaison takes a verbal beating from the oilman, as do Laura and Dave, who Russell says planned to throw his hat into the fire at the reunion show. But the fireworks don’t stop there, as Russell describes his friend Natalie’s game as both “terrible” and “pitiful.” And what about the sour expression he wore the entire reunion show? Was he as crushed at losing as he appeared? Ummmm, yeah. Turns out the acid-tongued assassin was on the verge of shedding tears…if he were a crying man, that is. All that and more await you by clicking on the 6-part video below — a video that almost did not happen due to some last second technical difficulties. (Luckily, a handy flipcam saved the day.) Stay tuned for our interview with Survivor: Samoa winner Natalie, which will be up shortly. In the meantime, check out Russell in all his pissed-off glory. And to get Survivor scoop sent directly to you all year round (including exclusive on location Heroes Vs. Villains video!), you can follow me on Twitter @EWDaltonRoss. Okay, take it away, Russell…

He is just a bitter sour loser imho. Did hestrategically dominated from start to finish absolutely but there was one flaw in his gameplan which was he forgot the most important part of the game and that is the social element which meant the jury didnt like him.

He may of not liked the way natalie played the game but to call itterrible and pitiful just show how much of a sore loser he is as ultimatly it proved to be more effective than his.

    • Sara

      Well said.

      • Zoinks

Umm, I think you could more accurately be describing the sore losers who refused to vote for Russell — the man who outwitted, outlasted and outplayed them — due to their inability to handle their bitterness over the fact that it was Russell who picked them off one by one. Survivor has never had such a group of bitter little sore losers in 19 seasons.

      • jessup

Just because Russell told us over and over again how awesome he was doesn’t make it true. I watched the same season, and it was a team effort. Natalie convinced the others to turn on Erik, Russell told her not to waste her time. If she hadn’t done that, Foa Foa would have been picked off one by one. Jaison ordered Russell to vote out Shambo and walked off, Russell didn’t argue, he just did what he was told. Natalie let Russell make a fool of himself to everyone there because she knew it would be good standing next to the blow hard idiot at the end. She was right, she’s a million dollars richer today because of her moves and her social game. Russell looks like a pathetic loser, offering the winner money to let him pretend to have won. Seriously, this guy is mentally deranged.

      • djm

What a blow-hard. And Dalton – please don’t speak for me – he is so not my “Sole Survivor”. Talk about being a HUGE baby – get over it. YOU LOST!!! I don’t care what he thought about the rest of them – he can call them stupid or whatever – who cares. He’s just a spoiled brat and is stomping his feet because he didn’t get what wanted. IT’S A GAME!!!

      • Buford420

Russell deserved to win hands down. I totally agree that the jury was a bunch of whiny losers. Let me state the motto of the game: “outwit, outplay, outlast”. Russell was my hero all season. If you did not like the way he played, then you do not truly like the game of survivor. Natalie floated through the game. I would not even say she played. Russell did everything. Natalie was not even in the top 3 for america voting for the best player. I think the jury ruined the end of Russell’s damn near perfectly played game by giving the money to a coattail rider that contributed practically nothing to the strategy aspect of the game.

      • jason

This is officially known as being “Boston robbed” in honor of the equally awful final vote of Survivor All-Stars.

      • Mark

The term, of course, is “outlast”. He didn’t do that. He flamed out in the worst possible, most obvious way one can ever flame out in Survivor. Period. It’s hard to feel bad for someone losing when they lose it on the most important moment in the game. If the guy was so smart, he would have paid better attention to the rules.

Quite frankly, there have been other examples of people who have presented better after outwitting everyone, and have then taken the title. But, really, Russell was just another Amanda.

      • jed

Russell did the worst social game play in survivor history!!!! Deal with it!! The votes were not particularly for Natalie, It was against him.. He was hated!!

      • KEH

Wow even Jeff doesn’t understand the game… The Jury is key to getting the Money and winning. even more so with three finalists.
If you can’t get to the final and keep the Jury open to voting for your. you lose. Call people names, destroy personal property, brag etc.. and you can find all the idols you want and you have missed the key end game here.
Natalie is a Pharma sales person and we are told a good one. Now we know why.. She knows when to sell and when not too. The Jury was full of egos that would not bow to Russel so got punted.. Russel is no better than them in that in the end.. he wasn’t even able to sofen his massive ego to make the bad taste he left just enough better. Jeff and all the “Psuedo” fans here he are sure Russel deserved the win need to ask yourself one questions.. Why is there a Jury of people voted off.. for some kind of Justice? No it is there to create a need to play a social game. Russle was about as clever a player and tackle who fouls on every play leavin ginjured players on the other team.. then gets ejected from the game .. Russel was meaner than he needed to be.. and more arogrant. Natalie with a million on the line played the final moments like she did the entire game.. she was a running back following the blockers and finding the seams and because she was never touched does that mean she doesn’t play the game as well as a line backer who hits with his head every time. She played Russel.. she even had the self controll as a professional sales person to soft sell her self to a group that had been abused.. she succeeded where Mick and Russel failed.. reading the Jury.. And proved that the game is not over until the final vote.. Jeff Probst needs to get over it.. find idols and pissing off the Jury so bad they can’t get over it is a BAD strategy.. russel is one of the most tragic players not the best because he understood the competative game and totally has no clue about the social aspect. You can’t be a top Survivor player and do that.. its just not possible.. I expect Russel will be on Villians and will be off very quickly because not only did he misplay the Jury this time.. there will not be a player ever again taht will trust him.

      • Russell The Brute

Even for getting to the end, Russell Hantz’s approach to the game only works if he gets insecure people in the game, then he can intimidate all he wants and pawn it off of as “control”. If he gets type-A alpha males or people without insecurity issues in the game, then his oil-riggin brute force one-dimensional game play won’t work.

    • wrong!

It’s not that the jury didn’t “like” him…The were just mad that he outwitted them. It should never be about who you “like” more…get real!

      • wrong is WRONG

You have to balance gameplay with people’s feelings and they’re feelings.

Survivor has NEVER been *JUST* about gameplay…are you new to the show?

      • RCB

Russell is certainly the most aggressive player, but is he the best? I don’t think so. What cost him the million is not his lying and manipulation, but his abrasiveness. Any survivor fan knows that his type of gameplay, coupled with his type of behavior, can only get you to the final tribal council (but not the win).

      • Deonna Hampton

from what I saw, it didn’t take much to outwit that bunch! Go Russell!

      • Zoinks

“wrong” is right. Anyone on the jury with an ounce of dignity or sportsmanship would have voted for the person who outwitted them. It’s only ever been a few very weak people here and there who refused to suck it up and give their master his props. Laura, Dave and Eric all seem to have a disconnect with reality, so it’s likely that they got together and planned their sad little revenge.

      • OMG

Blah, blah, blah – what a whiney BABY. Get over it LOSER – you LOST. He was so smug the whole time and he got EXACTLY what he deserved. Natalie may have been “pitiful”, but she is the “SOLE SURVIVOR” – suck on that LOSER.

      • JW

Not superior game play if you lose in the end. That’s the vote that matters. His sense of entitlement to the win is why the jury voted for Natalie. If he’d had any class about his game, he’d have won. Instead he was arrogant. Worked for Hatch…hasn’t really worked since.

      • jason

He didn’t take into account what a bunch of whiny babies the jury are. “He hurt my feelings! Her? I don’t really remember her so I’ll vote for her!”
        Boston robbed.

      • Laura

Zoinks, I think the only person with poor “sportsmanship” here was Russell who pouted and rolled his eyes when Natalie was interviewed after winning. I understand lying and cheating to win and I’ve never had a problem with someone abandoning their ethics within the game but the game is over now; what is his excuse for still acting like a jerk?

    • Kathy

Russell should have won. He will get a second chance on Hero vs Villains Feb.11th

      • lest21

Well, he doesn’t win season 20 either. I love it, actually. Pimpin’ ain’t easy, is it Russ?

      • coach wade

I feel that the important thing to remember is that Survivor is a game, and if we compare it to the Super Bowl, the final players would be the winning team. It’s the jury’s job to pick the MVP. If the Patriots win the Super Bowl and Tom Brady throws for 500 yards and 7 touchdowns, you can’t vote for the third string quarterback just because he’s nicer to you at practice.

      • hannah

i am pretty sure that crazy skank parvati wins season 20. there i saved you 3 months of your life

      • RCB

@hannah, other spoilers have a different winner.

      • RCB

        @coach wade – wrong analogy.
Winning SB team = final 3 castaways? Fail!

      • Zoinks

@lest21 – where do you get your information? Your imagination?

      • NC

Considering the same source that gave people the correct final 4 (in order) a few months ago gave folks the final 3 for Season 20, I’m inclined to believe him/her.

Although nobody knows who the winner is for sure. AFAIK the only thing they have to go on is how people think the final jury vote went down.

      • NC

Sorry… they gave the correct final 5. Final 3 was leaked earlier.

And @hannah – the spoilers I’ve seen listed disagree with you.

      • Shelly

And in an interview after the Reunion, he couldn’t tell us if he was going to be in the next season (which we all know he is anyway), but when asked if he would be a Hero or Villan, he said he would be a Hero!!?? Say what?? Who is he kidding, he was definitely a Villan in this season!! Just shows how delusional the creep is.

      • Cari

Russell won’t even make it to the finals of Season 20… If he knew he had another shot at winning the game, he wouldn’t have nearly been in tears when Natalie won!

      • RDP

This time, he was playing with a bunch of peewees (although they weren’t peewees about their voting strategy). The next time, he’s gonna be up against the big boys. He tries anything funny on those guys, out come the pinstripe suits and violin cases.

    • kj

I think Russel should have won, Natalie just stayed under the rador. But you never get the ones you win, it’s part of the game and if you don’t like it don’t watch!!!!

      • Zoinks

In a world where Obama won a Nobel “Peace” Prize for doing absolutely NOTHING…other than not being Bush, it’s completely appropriate that Natalie won Survivor for doing absolutely nothing other than not being Russell.

      • wakeforce

I agree! When Donny won Dancing with the Stars because people didn’t “like” Mya, everybody said “Them’s the rules. Get Over It!” WELL, RUSSELL. THEM’S THE RULES. GET OVER IT!

      • jason

you must account for the hurt feelings of losers Russell, or you will end up joining that tribe. you were the best player, but got Boston Robbed in the end.

      • Sarah

You have to play the social/emotional game to win. Period. If that aspect is missing from your game, then it’s your own shortcomings that contribute to your loss (RUSSELL). You are NOT the best player if you can’t jump the final hurdle — the jury.

    • Lisa

I agree. I found it humorous & ironic that Russell spent the entire season ripping on anyone who expressed an opinion that Russell’s play wasn’t “fair” because he lied, cheated, stole, etc. Russell’s take: it’s all part of the game. Then, when the majority of the jury members make their vote decision based on different factors than Russell would, he acted like a child at the reunion show. His behavior screamed, “It’s not fair!” Well, Russell, you can’t have it both ways. You don’t make the rules. Now act like an adult and deal with it.

      • Ann

        absolutely correct!!!

      • Zoinks

I’m pretty sure it was Eric who was crying about things not being “fair”. I never noticed what a rambling fool he was until last night.

      • talkin’

right on to Lisa and Erik made the most sense last night.

      • Amy

omg don’t get me started on Erik. What a pathetic loser. He wants his 15 minutes of fame so bad that he was shameless enough to stand up there and spew all that ridiculous crap.

      • Shelly

I actually could not stand Erik when he was in the game, he was just as arrogant as Russell and Ben. But what he said in the last tribal council was the only thing that made the most sense.

      • jason

Ugh–Erik was absolutely awful last night. That tribal council diatribe was one of the worst ever on this show.

      • ccf

Erik was awful. I hate every jury is always holier than thou and thinks everyone should be a saint and tell them before they get voted off, and never lie or go behind someone’s back. GIVE ME A BREAK! IT IS A GAME. And that is exactly how Natalie won. Boo to the jury.

    • lbj

Natalie’s gameplay was pathetic. Anyone watching knew Russell was the sole survivor. Don’t forget it.

      • Minutiae

Except that he lost, which is what I’ll remember.

      • Zoinks

She was the ultimate coattail rider. I would defy anyone who voted for her to tell me how she differentiated herself from Mick, other than the fact that she’s a woman who flat out said that women need to roll over and hide to make it. Clearly the people who made up the jury of weak losers like their women subservient.

      • Krista

obviously she was smart enough to know what would get her further than everyone else

      • D

There is offensive play and defensive play. Defensive play gets derided as coattail riding, but it is just as legitimate a style of playing.

      • Al

Well, you’re probably the only one. I’m pretty sure Russell will be remembered as the one who was robbed of the prize while Natalie will just be that coattailer who was shameless enuf to claim she had a strategy when all she really was was a weak yes-man.

      • wakeforce

If she had ranted and raved like Marisa, Laura, Betsy and all the others except Shamu, he would have voted her off. Natalie had a point there.

      • Shelly

Why is everyone saying that Natalie rode on Russell’s coattails?? hardly. She played a VERY hard game of her own and used the best strategy that she could with what she had….the troll Russell. She saw the other girls getting voted out by showing how strong they are and was smart enough NOT to do the same thing and instead stroked Russell’s ego, so she could stay in the game. That is hardly riding on his coattails!! That’s very good strategy and VERY smart of her!!

      • jason

Yep, strong women should shut up and hide behind stronger men and then pop out and go “look how smart I am!” The smartest thing Natalie did was come up with a clever new way to describe riding someone’s coat tails to a bitter jury that knew they had been outplayed by a better man.

      • C-man

I’m sick of hearing people go on about how brilliant Russell’s game play was. There are two parts to Survivor: (1) make it the final and (2) get the jury to vote for you. Russell was fantastic at the first part, but he completely ignored the part about the jury votes. So, he only played half of the game.

    • OMG

Good lord ZOINKS – it’s a TV show. Russell is a poor sport and a sore loser – he just needs to get over it. Thankfully he didn’t win and he didn’t deserve to win. The rules of SURVIVOR are that the jusry picks the winner – and they picked Natalie by a LARGE margin. I wouldn’t have voted for his smug A$$ either.

    • Rosalie

Everyone is saying that the jury voted based on emotions. Um, Russuell voted people out based on emotions as well. He got rid of the strong women because he was AFRAID they would take him down. He would get MAD when someone would contradict him. Last time I checked FEAR and ANGER were emotions as well. He was not the smartest player by far. He should have been a Galu, he was as dumb as they were. Galu felt confident that it would be purple all the way after the merge and Russell felt confident he would go all the way. He was good for entertainment purposes, but a horrible player. If he was playing to win, he would have tried to keep his team strong to win imunity challenges and reduce the risk of getting voted out at Tribal Council. He needed Natalie, Mick and Jaison as much as they needed him. He did not get to the final jury vote on his own, his alliance helped him get there. It’s not like he won every single individual immunity challenge on his own. I loved that he continue to put Natalie down and said several times that she was so stupid, she would probably tell the jury to vote for him. The jury did the right thing! Russell was not smart enough to keep Shambo till the end, whom he knew for a fact that no one else thought highly of her. What a dumb @$$! I guess winning Survivor is not all that easy, is it Russell.

      • Shelly

Well said Rosalie!! And so so true!

      • jason

Fair point about Shambo–Russell definitely didn’t play a perfect game, but it was the best game since Boston Rob, and it ended the same way, with a bitter jury voting for the coat-tail rider. Boston Robbed!

    • potvin

BS! The only bitter people were on the jury? Russell IS the winner.

    • SM

Yeah, he calls THEM weak? Go get your pacifier, little baby.

      • jason

If he weren’t so right I’d agree with you. He and Boston Rob should form a club of best players never to win (there are a few others that could join them there as well).

      • geoff

Colby from Australian outback, Terry from Panama and Rob C from Amazon could join that list.

    • Brandy

Natalie’s weak gameplay and the fact that a bitter jury went with the coattail instead of the game player just ensures future seasons will be boring. People will not want to make power plays in fear of being “Russelled” out of a million. Hello to the end of Survivor.

    • Josh

Agreed. If Russell had an ounce of humility and heart, he would have won in a landslide, but if you go through life like an arrogant turd, you get what is coming to you.

      • foxylmc

Don’t you all get it by now, Russell has what is called small man’s disease. Hope you know what that means everyone.
Russell really has very low self esteem which leads him to do and say things that he does not really mean, I saw through him and could see there is actually a very sweet man inside.

HOWEVER HE DID DESERVE THE WIN, HANDS DOWN IMHO!!

    • Lola

Hate got nothing to do with this game, the jury FAIL!

This is a game, the best player should win.

    • Kathy

      Agree 100%

    • WTF

Russell was ROBBED plain and simple.

    • IMHO

I really hate when people say “in my honest opinion.” I hate when they abbreviate it too. Are you lying if you do not specify that this is your honest opinion?

      • Robin

It means “In my HUMBLE opinion”

      • steve

        it means both, birdie

    • Thomas

This season will not be remembered as Survivor: Samoa, but as Survivor: Sore Losers.

    • Chris

Oh please, he’s not a sore loser – he’s right.

All the people on that jury were the sore losers. Natalie was a terrible player. How does ANYONE believe her alliance with Russell was a strategic move when it was initiated it on the FIRST day.

      The FIRST day!

What could she possibly have known about him or his skill at that point? Nothing.

All the people complaining about Russell are the same type of people who were on the jury – dolts who don’t get it. You just don’t get it.

It’s a goddamn competition. You’re COMPETING. You’re competing for a MILLION dollars. You play to win, you play hard. EVERYONE in survivor lies. Everyone betrays at some point. In the history of the show, nobody played as hard, smart, and well as Russell.

Natalie was a nobody. Russell won. End of story.

    • Khenphet

Russel is not a bitter sour loser. He’s obviously very passionate about the game. It’s a shame that he lost, it makes me really don’t want to see anymore surivors, because if they’re going to hand the title to someone who doesn’t deserve the title than it’s just boring to watch.

      • jed

Khenphet, you should quit viewing survivor.. You don’t get the game.. It may be chess at the beginning but it is all twisted at the end.. In other words, IT IS NOT CHESS!! Russell may have been the star of Survivor: Samoa (he makes good TV), but it does not mean he deserved the title.. For me, he is not deserving at all.. He sucked (BIG TIME!!) at the social part of the game..

    • uraloser

rlly ur just a typical american dumbass

    • Logic

Russell and his trolls, I mean fans, think aggressively bullying around means “owning” the camp and winning Survivor. And they get shocked that it comes bite them in the ass when no one votes for Russell at the end. Big Shocker! If you bully some one like what Russell did, then it’s obvious your victims aren’t gonna like you, let alone respect you. And Russell and his fans expect the victims to “respect” his game play? Talk about being delusional. I wonder if they get far in life doing and thinking like that: victims should respect the abuser for bullying the victims. What world do these abusers live in? A self-centered, have a cake and eat it too, world? Yeah, Russell is the best, the best at not getting jury votes, the best at going to the end and not win, the best at being used, the best at being a sore loser.

Russell and his fans don’t understand playing to the end does not justify as the winner. Anyone can get to the end. The game is designed so that people are constantly eliminated. You can have a tribe full of lazy asses doing nothing and you would still end up with 2 or 3 finalists since elimination is mandatory. So Russell Hantz using the excuse that he worked hard to get to the end is not a good excuse, if anything it shows the game may be too much for him since he “worked hard”. Smart players don’t or shouldn’t have to work hard. Not like you’re building something and at the end you say you’ve worked hard, or like running a race and at the end you say you ran hard or you worked hard during training. This game Survivor is mainly a mind game. If you say you’ve worked hard using your mind then maybe you’re too dumb in the head and trying too hard. Smart player wouldn’t have to “work hard” just to get to the end since by default through the voting/eliminations someone or some 2 or 3 contestants will end up in the end naturally/eventually. Besides, the end isn’t really the end since you need jury votes. Since this is a mind game because the main focus is jury management, a smart player would use someone or some group of people to do the work for the smart player as the game progresses. A smart player would convince or indirectly get someone else i.e. the tool to vote on the smart player’s behalf and make that tool think that tool made the decision to vote someone else off. So when it comes to the jury, the jury would think it was the tool’s decision to vote them off, so the jury would blame the tool and antagonize the tool, while giving the winning votes to the smart player. That’s a mind game. That’s what Survivor is. For Russell and his fans to say that he deserves to be the winner because he worked hard to get to the end is just dumb. That’s like rewarding a special needs kid for just finishing the race. And Survivor is not that kind of a physical race where you cross the finish line you win, or a strength challenge like World’s Strongest Man where they’re judged by a concrete criteria that is physical strength, or a national TV game show like American Idol where the majority of TV viewers phone in to vote and decide. When you boil down to it, Survivor is about playing the people/the contestants and the majority of those who end up in the jury decide the winner, so it’s a mind game, a social game. Certainly reaching to the last day of Survivor is not the finish line, but just part of the game.

For the jury to vote one way or another, no matter how unpopular the votes may be, the jury gets the final say, not TV viewers. That’s the game. Besides, TV viewers only get a glimpse of what goes on over there or what the Survivor editors want us to see for entertainment values. Viewers don’t live with contestants 24/7, so what viewers see doesn’t reflect the complete story. Voting based off of that incomplete information would not do contestants justice.

  • tcrab

Does anyone really care about an upcoming interview with Natalie? She was a non-entity on the show and she’s going to remain one after. Russell got the shaft from the jury.

    • SLB

Russell shafted himself, by being a rude, arrogant, nasty jerk. Boo hoo. Cry now you sore loser.

      • ian

Russell doesn’t need the money he played the game to show that he could strategicly outplay a bunch of people who thought they could outplay him they didn’t and he was robbed of his title that he earned shame on all of the losers of the jury

      • RCB

Natalie outplayed Russell. Russell totally underestimated the power of the jury, and that’s where he was outplayed. He did not have an end game. So he failed.

Natalie could have made a big move by taking out Russell, but she did not because she knew that she could easily beat him in the final tribal council. Even Probably Amanda (from China and FVF) could beat Russell in the final tribal council.

    • LT

Russell Should have won. No one gives a hoot what Natalie has to say.

      • Deonna Hampton

The only thing Natalie “took out” was a rat…. big bold move…. and took credit for great game play? I was honest, and kept my integrity… that is what she said, but would NOT tell the truth that she let Russell carry her and HE made the moves. He played the game from beginning to end. Sad that the jurors could not set their pitiful feelings aside and look at WHO actually played the game

      • EW

I totally agree. No matter how many interviews she has lined up, she’ll just be “that girl who the jury voted for because they didn’t like Russell.” It’ll be funny (and vindicating) if everyone ends up wanting to talk to Russell instead of her.

      • Brandy

Just like Adam for AI. Russell was better than Natalie. Bitter players didn’t want to give him credit. I can be just as babyish as the jury so I know how they let their baby feelings get in the way. How many people can admit they’re childish, like I did about myself? That’s why there are people who still think Natalie should have won. They cannot admit.

  • steve

Also as showed last night he didnt no his peers well enough to no who to take to the final as if he took shambo and jaison which he could of easily done he would of won.

    • D

The risk is that Brett had a better chance of competing in the final immunity challenge against those two. Russell did not know ahead of time that he would be able to beat Brett in that last challenge.

  • paige

    Russel is hot

    • chichi

YES! Finally, someone agrees with me. My husband thinks I am crazy, but I don’t care, something about him is UNF!!!

    • SLB

      Gross

    • Zoinks

He reminds me of a fat version of that guy Shifty Shellshock who sang Butterfly and Starry Eyed Surprise.

    • Jason

      He looks like a hobbit!

    • Diane

Thank God I’m not the only one. He grew on me so much that I was starting to be attracted to him. Actually all the guys tend to become more attractive to me the longer they stay out. Weird. And then at the reunion and I look at them and I’m like ewwww! I think I need my head checked. lol

      • Jason

Eh, the chicks get hotter too. Natalie ate a lot after getting off the island apparantly.

      • Zoinks

Diane, you’re right about the guys. Mostly they drop all that weight and get cut and super lean, get tan and grow facial scruff….they get hot! Then by the reunion, they’ve gone home and gained 40 pounds and put on some ugly turtle neck and lost their tan and…meh….not so hot anymore.

      • Mox

Wow it’s sad to see that in order for them to be considered attractive, people have to starve themselves. Let’s promote anorexia!!! This is sick!

  • !!!!!!!!

Everything he said is the total truth. He was totally robbed. The jury got it WRONG! They were too bitter about being bested by him, and they couldn’t see past it to see that he deserved to win. Russell is the greatest Survivor player EVER!!!!!!

    • Jaice

Russell’s bitterness is on the same level as the jury’s. It’s a social game and if you piss people off with your arrogance and smugness, then don’t expect votes to come to you.

    • hannah

Exactly, you know you are dealing with a dumb as heck jury when you realized it is all one tribe (save Jaison) any tribe that would cannabilize itself shouldn’t be expected to make wise choices.

      • D

He admits that now. He was playing a different game than Galu was. He thought they would have the same mindset that he had the whole game. Arrogance!

    • RCB

All Survivor juries are potentially bitter, and it is up to the final 2 or 3 to stroke their egos. All Survivor winners knew how to do that, and that’s where Russell failed. He did not have an end game strategy.

      • Tom

Thank you for someone stating this. From the comments it sounds like people have never watched the show until now.

      • Joe

Exactly! Once you’re in the Final 2/3, control of the game is now in the jury’s hands, not in the players. Or at the very least, 75% to the jury and 25% to the players b/c the players have to convince the jury that they’re worthy of votes.

  • Kathy

Russell maybe bitter…he should be he should have won.Hope he has another chance on the next Survivor…Heros vs Villians.

    • wakeforce

sorry, he won’t win that either! Thanks to the spoilers, we also knew that Russell wouldn’t win this season

    • John Manzo

Russell could never win an all-star. Everybody knows his game style and nobody would trust him.

      • geoff

That is why All Stars is a bad idea. All the good players get voted off first because their great game play is already known.

  • i’m a lady

russell. entertaining until the very end.

    • lest21

However, part of playing the game is knowing when it ends…It’s over Russell. Man-up. Honor, Loyal in real life? Showing no signs of that presently, big daddy pimp.

      • i’m a lady

um…he’s being interviewed about it, and it just happened. he and john are the only ones that make any sense when they speak.

  • Deonna Hampton

Wow! Someone should have educated these jurors on what “out play, out wit and out last” means. Russell was the best survivor to date! It is not a personality contest, it is about game play and big moves…. hmmm can’t think of any that Natalie made (did she even win a challenge? or make a move? (oh yeah, she killed a rat) evidently worth a million bucks. Russell, America spoke volumes voting for you, only 5 people who had their feeling hurt and voted with prejudice picked Natalie, but the majority of Americans recognized the REAL SOLE SURVIVOR. They need to let America vote (evidently we don’t wear our feelings on our sleeve) FANTASTIC game play Russell!

    • LK

Who says it isn’t, in large part, a popularity contest? Every time they vote someone out because they can’t stand to be around that person, it’s a popularity contest. The greatest alliances ever were based on chemistry, a popularity contest.

Russell is one of the best, if not the best, manipulator and overt strategizer I’ve ever seen on this show. But, he blew it when it counted the most. You think the producers can put 16-20 people together, on two teams, in nearly unbearable and isolated conditions and think that the social aspect of the game won’t be a huge factor? Get a clue. Russell may have a brilliant side to him, but he is also a cry baby.

      • uraloser

shut up ur a dumbass typical american

    • BB

That would completely change the game. The interesting thing about Survivor is that you have to outplay, outwit, and outlast people, and then get them to give you a million dollars. Russell forgot that last part. He played a very aggressive game, but he displayed an arrogant, dismissive, and downright mean attitude throughout the game. This wasn’t neccesary to take people out and it caught up with him in the end.

    • Tamie

Outwit, Outplay and Outlast!!! Russell may have Outlasted the members of the jury, but the jury outwitted and outplayed him. He did not outwit or outplay the jury, it was the other way around. They got the last laugh in the end.

  • f hardy

What boggles my mind is that Ross cant figure out that, even after listening to his arrogant crap on the phone, that this is off-putting to people. Glad he lost. He is and was a jerk and will be known as only a loser.
There have been 19 seasons of Survivor and plenty of people have won it w/o acting like a total jerk.

    • Krusty

Yeah and they shouldn’t have won either. Tina over Colby? No. Vecepia vs. Neleh? No (though Neleh wasn’t a good player either). Sandra Diaz over crazy Scout-mistress Lil? These undeserving winners are the result of juries that cannot separate game play from emotion. Russell was screwed & I’ll have the T-shirt to remember this tragedy by soon. It’s not a charity–who cares who “deserved” it, that’s not the point. Russell, you ARE SOLE SURVIVOR.

      • Jake

Except for that accounting for jury’s emotion IS a part of the game play. Otherwise, one should just keep lying and backstabbing to pick off more trusting tribe members one by one. That’s exactly why the ones voted off get to decide the final winner. If you want a lying contest (with occasional hidden immunity idol hunting), then Survivor is not a show for you.

      • Jason

A “nice contest” would be the most boring show ever. Survivor never would have lasted this long if everyone played like that. See the first season of Big Brother if you don’t believe me. CBS had to re-cast that show with self-absorbed back-stabbers to get ratings.

  • Jess

Absolutely worst jury EVER! I wanted to scream. Russel was one of the top, if not top player of all time, lame! This season would have been soooo boring if it weren’t for him. Idiots!

  • Donald

I would much rather see an interview with Brett than Natalie… Why are Mick, Brett, and Jaison getting shafted here?

    • D

Shambo got second-rate treatment too. The camera was all over the place in her interview, and no Dalton.

  • NicWin

I have to keep reminding myself not to read these comments. The majority of them are from judgmental self righteous hypocrites.
Why do you all hate Russell? Was it the “Dumb Ass Girl” thing? Yeah, that pissed me off at first too. Til I realized that that was actually a very appropriate (and generous) name for these idiot girls. He dominated the game and deserved to win, end of story.

    • RCB

You cannot win Survivor if you antagonize the jury. It seemed to me that Russell was only playing for the final 2, and not to win.

Natalie’s under-the-radar and riding coattails strategy is a legitimate one, and this has worked several times in Survivor history.

    • Minutiae

Except he’s still a sexist jerk. He didn’t deserve to win, or he would have. Period.

      • Zoinks

How’s he sexist? He didn’t say ALL girls were dumbasses — he said the girls HE was allied with were dumbasses. If he actually thought ALL girls were dumb, it would have been redundant to call his allies dumbasses.

      • D

I think he was sexist and that was his downfall. He thought there was NO WAY that Natalie could beat him and it hampered his preparations for the jury.

      • Jason

I’m pretty sure he thought there was no way Natalie could beat him because she hadn’t done anything.

    • 00000000

      EXACTLY!!!

      • 00000000

was talking 2 NicWin plus those girls get dumber every season

    • Bill

Um, Zoinks, did you notice his demeaning attitude toward every woman in the game. He was incredibly sexist. He thought he was better than everyone, but seemed to reserve all his harshest insults for pretty much every woman he came across.

      • Zoinks

That was his attitude toward EVERYBODY, not just women. He was right anyhow, the rest of the players were dumbasses.

      • Joe

Zoinksh*t, if that was his attitude toward everybody, then I guess it applies to you too, no?

      • Zoinks

Joe, your comment is almost coherent. Keep trying!

      • Joe

@Zoinkf*ck What I meant was from YOUR own comment, it seems to me your a dumbf*ck for not understanding the whole game. Strategy is a key to winning but at the end of the day, getting votes will win you the prize.

  • Brian

Russell was robbed, anyone who doesn’t think so is a moron.

    • Sarge

He has you fooled just like he did all those others. If they had been smart, they would have voted him out as soon as possible. He is a big bag of hot air, arrogant,
      and a real Adam Henry.

  • realtyFan

Russel is such a sore loser – really really sad. He didn’t play a social game and thought he could bully and threaten his way to a win. Pretty pathetic.

    • hannah

he did the dirty work for everyone. hello, if he wasn’t running the show his tribe would have been out on their butts.

      • LT

TRUE!!! He did everyon’s dirty work for them. He should have won.

      • RCB

We had 19 seasons of survivor already, and we know that there is no single criterion for choosing the Sole Survivor. “Doing the dirty work” is one factor, but not the only one. “Building relationships” is also one factor.

      • Mike

@RCB — They’re not going to hear you. It’s like you’re talking to empty space, though I think you’ve nailed it. Hatch was brilliantly manipulative but he was able to be likable ENOUGH to win the jury. Russell was even more brilliantly manipulative, but not at all likable. Nobody should assume that the jury will exclude their feelings when voting. If you make that assumption, then you risk losing. Oh, right, like Russell did.

      • helno

It wasn’t that Richard was likable, it’s that Sue was so bitter over Kelly and that Rudy is a man of his word. Remember that was 4-3 vote. He narrowly won.

  • Lola

Bitter much? Russell is a angry little man who wants to continue his 15 minutes of fame.

Here’s a memo to Russell: you lost. Get over it. Move on.
