'Project Runway' season 7 cast revealed: There will be bangs!

I’m still hungover from the long, disappointing slog that was season six, but Lifetime’s unveiling of a whole new crop of Project Runway hopefuls has me all kinds of excited today. For one thing, it’d be pretty hard not to improve on the last cast (like coupons at Macy’s, some exceptions apply). But a quick glance at Lifetime‘s gallery of the 16 fresh faces who’ll be on season seven (debuting Jan. 14) gives me hope that our show might be back on track. Hopefully.

Some first impressions:

-Bangs! No fewer than four contestants are sporting a sleek straight fringe (see photo, left). And two of them have ‘dos similar enough that they could be sharing the same stylist. What does it all mean?! What is the greater meaning behind this proliferation of bangs?

-We might have an entertaining nutter butter in Ping Wu who, in her home visit video models some kooky, hand-knit socks that double as washcloths.

-Pamela Ptak: God is her favorite designer.

-There is a Rocker Dad. Oh jeez…

-Anthony Williams: I adore this guy already. He has personality! Dude lives with his mom in Atlanta (“You are officially in the luxury ghetto”), worships Manolo Blahnik, and compares his mother’s collection of “little colored children” figurines to “Children of the Corn…they’re gonna come get me in my sleep.”

-I still don’t care about Models of the Runway.

If you can stomach sitting through 16 repetitions of those cloying Cotton: The Fabric of Our Lives commercials that play before each video, take a trip on over to Lifetime to get acquainted with the Season Seveners, then report back in the comment section below: Who stands out for you?

Models of the Runway was more interesting than Project Runway. Cant wait for more model cat fights.

    • Tatiana

Yeah I didn’t mind Models of the Runway. When you don’t feed them or let them pee for a whole day because they’re wearing a garment made out of paper they can get pretty vicious.

    • renee

thank you very much. while i tivo’ed fast through pr, i watched motr. i’ll give this one more season, but it better improve. it really jumped the shark last season.

really liked bravo’s fashion show minus kelly rowland. combine fashion show and project runway, adding the quick challenge, keeping tim as the buddy, adding isaac as judge with nina and michael and heidi and you’ve got a show.

    • amj

I agree, there were times that I enjoyed Models better! Except for the last episode..boring!

      • greenbean

ACK! I hated Models of the Runway. So freaking boring! Worse than the snooze fest that was PR last season. Lifetime, please do better this time. Please!!! and ditch MOTR!

    • ruched dress

Both PR and MOTR were pretty crappy, I didn’t enjoy either one. They’d better do something fast or I won’t be watching at all.

  • Jelana

Will Michael Kors and Nina Garcia actually be on the show this season? Because last season proved that the show really, really needs them.

    • Thomas

Agreed. Inconsistent judging and the lack of withering stares/Golden Girls caftan remarks made for a very uninteresting season.

    • Joseph T

agree! The judges help make that show. interesting designers help too!

    • llevinso

According to Nina’s interview last season: yes. I think the show is even back in New York which makes them able to be around a lot more. That was one of the main problems before.

    • Bri

The show is back in New York and Nina and Michael confirmed that they’re sitting in on every episode this season. AKA it will actually BE project runway, instead of some creepy imitation with “celebrities” and “stylists” talking a bunch of nonsense.

      • amj

        Excellent!

    • GGG

Also, this show needs to be in HD! It’s difficult to see some of the more intricate details on the garments without it… Stupid Lifetime. I miss BRAVO!

  • confidential

Lifetime’s website for Project Runway sucks.. There is no info on the contestants education or prior fashion work experience. And the videos are like exerts from MTV Cribs.. soooo stupid!

    • llevinso

I agree! I hated it last season sooo much!!!!! And all the links that take you even slightly away from the main page and whatnot take forever to load, if they load at all. Rar!

    • Bobby’s Robot

      It’s a horrible website!!!

    • nonya

They have a whole section underneath the videos with 49 questions and answers, which includes their training, education, inspirations, etc. You just scroll through the questions. It’s not that difficult.

      • nonya

Double checked and yeah, it’s called “Questions & Answers: Anthony’s Take” (or whichever designer you are looking at’s take.) Question 8:
        What is your design training?
        Answer:
University of Alabama, and Linda Sears of TK Designs challenged me to sew better.

    • Krusty

Worst website…ever. Worst season (6) ever. Here’s hoping PR gets its mojo back in NYC! Viva Garcia & Kors!

  • AK

That cast photo is so poorly Photoshopped together, it makes me want to scream. I can’t even handle that awkwardness.

    • Pogo

      What?!? They used Photoshop?!

  • Kevin

This show has a LONG way to go if they want to win back my goodwill. They really need to back off the fake drama and just let the designers make great clothes. Pretty simple formula.

  • jd

honestly, 7 has to be better than 6–I already forgot who won 6

    • Kevin

It was that lame New Yorker chick with no sense of color and way too much attitude for her limited talents.

      • Mary

You can say all you want about her attitude but I actually really liked her designs all season.

      • Kevin

Sorry. I’m just not pro-bland rehash from the 70s Barbie collection. Ugh she was bad…

  • Ambient Lite

I don’t care about the Models either and found that show to be as boring and lifeless as its subjects.

    • Jenny

I only watched Models to see who the designers would be paired with the next week. Anything has to be an improvement over season 6.

  • Scott

    Is that Danny Gokey?

    • KP

      Haha. Good one!

  • Kevin

The second person from the left in the top row? I thought that was Old Mr. Peanuthead himself, David Cook.

    • steph

he looks like sylar beaten with a nerd stick :D

  • canada

curse you, lifetime, and your withholding of online videos from canadians!

  • Marie

Since none of the guys are particularly eye-candy (except maybe Anthony), all the contestants had better be good designers with great designs. The last 2 seasons were such snore fests I’m on the verge of not paying attention anymore.

  • Mya k.

I stopped watching the show 3 or 4 weeks into last season when the judges decided to try and convince us that garbage was the new chic trend. This isn’t FOX News. You can’t just say you’re fair and balanced, proceed with idotic comments, and expect everyone viewing to not see true to the truth. I may watch the first week or two to see if the judges this time around are still blind and dumb. And if stupidity is the order of the day, good bye for good.

  • betty

THEY ALREADY PICKED THE WINNER BEFORE SHOW AIRS!

  • Mary

Glad Project Runway is back where it belongs…New York!!!!

    • Kevin

Los Angeles wasn’t the problem. A shift away from talent and towards reality drama was.

  • JP

Some of them look really good and others well they’re on my prayer list.
