Michael Bay's Victoria's Secret commercial: Where are the giant robots?

Michael Bay has directed a Victoria’s Secret commercial. No, that’s not the premise for a Saturday Night Live skit involving enormous robots doing battle while wearing sexy lingerie. Bay, the director of slick, explosion-y mega-hits like Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, and the Transformers films, as well as numerous commercials, brings all the hallmarks of his style to his latest ad for Victoria’s Secret. These aren’t just shots of beautiful women in undergarments. These are shots of beautiful women in undergarments straddling pool tables, being followed by black helicopters, posing in front of a massive fireball, and, for some odd reason possibly having to do with a circus (a sexy circus!), throwing knives at each other — all assembled with lots of quick cutting and a soundtrack of thudding rock music. Hey, it makes a whole lot more sense than that weird Victoria’s Secret commercial Bob Dylan did a few years back.

Take a look.

Does Bay’s Victoria’s Secret commercial make you want to run right out and buy some bras? Or rent Bad Boys? Or both?

Some of Michael Bay’s best work has been his commercials (Aaron Burr, Verizon and now Victoria’s Secret) and in the case of the latter two isn’t afraid to showcase what he’s best at. As many knocks that Bay gets against him, I’m always impressed that he’s never changed his style for anyone.

Bay directed “Aaron Burr”?! That’s amazing!

  • Steve

It doesn;t look like most of his movies. However, I did I like this a lot more when it starred Will Smith and was called Bad Boys…

this costed more to make than my college tuition, i’m guessing… this guy is a joke. please, please, PLEASE someone pull his pants down in the public. i really need a good laugh.

    • Simon

It must have been a pretty cheap college anyway…costed?

I noticed that the guys who feel superior to Bay and knock him down for his “dumb” movies have the worst grammar of all… “Costed”? I’m beginning to think you really DO need to be intelligent to appreciate Bay’s work.

It is sad that commercial proly did cost what my college tution ran for…anytime he wants to change my life dramaticly and pay my student loans off instead of going for more explsions, that would be appreciated…

I always thought Bill Gates should pitch in and help me pay off credit card debt I incurred buy a new computer every couple of years.

I noticed that the guys who feel superior to Bay and knock him down for his “dumb” movies have the worst grammar/spelling of all… “ tution”, “dramaticly”, “explsions”… you HAVE to be kidding ? Whatever your college cost, you got ripped off! I’m beginning to think you really DO need to be intelligent to appreciate Bay’s work.

This song is “Merchant of Death” from the Iron Man soundtrack!! So random!!!

  • Bob

    Damn, Bay for president 2012!!

This commercial just screams Michael Bay. Not my thing, HOWEVER, I can assume due to the timing and the repeated emphasis on ONE GIFT – that this is supposed to appeal to men to make them remember the brand and run out and buy for mrs. If so, it definately meets the brief.

  • chichi

Whew, I thought I was the only girl that played pool like that.

  • Pinky

I thought this was hilarious. It’s a commercial made for men – it succeeds! And I liked the Dylan commercials a few years ago.

Bay is such a misogynist a—ole. If this commercial made my husband consider buying VS for me, I’d ask him to check his head and return the items. I’m sorry that Bay’s manhood is so small that he continually needs to belittle women to feel good about himself.

    • Hey

Not his fault women are able to be objectified. It’s how society sees you women. Blame the whorish women who purposely flaunt their stuff. Blame them. Not Bay.

      • llevinso

        You’re an idiot

    • Bay watches, Bay sucks

I agree this ad sucks but… after all it’s an female underwear’s ad… I really don’t see how it wouldn’t have looked belittling for women (when what they were is so… little precisely)

      • Bay watches, Bay sucks

        “wear”, not “were”. Sorry.

    • david O.

It looks to me like BAY really appreciates women.

Have you NEVER in your life seen a VS commercial? Apparently you HAVEN’T because it’s NOT just Michael Bay that has directed a commercial like this for VS. Also, how on EARTH is it belittling to women to have them model sexy underwear? You sound jealous that you probably don’t have the figures these women do and just have to bash on them instead. Love Bay and LOVE this ad!

      • Stacy Marie

These women CHOOSE to do what they do. (correction on the have them model sexy underwear) Good for them! If I had a body like that I would want to show it off!

  • sarah

Not gonna lie… loved it. It is an ad for Victoria’s Secret after all. Made me want to go out and buy a few items for the BF.

  • Bay watches, Bay sucks

Huuum, bras, panties… :p… Except that, totally random vid. Don’t like Michael Bay, think he’s more an “explosions-maker” than a movie director. And in this case, he just made it look like a Playboy erotic vid intro. My only interest is… where’s Heidi Klum ? :)

  • RachKath

Definitely aimed at men because I kept thinking how unflattering the bras were on the blond and how uncomfortable she looked – helloooo quadraboob and how if my SO got me cheap VS lingerie he would not be getting any. VS is not made for those of us with natural C+ cups. Regardless, as a woman in her late 30s, I’d rather have Michael Bay see me in my undies than Bob Dylan. Uh… DAD! or worse GRANDPA GROSS!
