The Twilight Saga

What did you think of last scene in 'New Moon'?

At the screening I attended of New Moon this weekend, there were gasps of shock at the way the film ended. It certainly got my attention and left me wanting to see the third film immediately. But I wondered what Twihards would think of the ending, which didn’t quite match up with New Moon, the book.

SPOILER alert: Would it have been a better ending if we’d gotten to hear Bella’s answer to Edward’s question, or did you like the cliffhanger ending? It also had me wondering: If a girl is willing to give up being human for an eternally damned soul as a vampire, doesn’t that kind of make the answer to his question obvious? Sound off in the comments.

I kind of liked the open ended thing. Those of us who have read the book know that she says no when he first asks her, and who would’ve wanted the movie to end on that note. She finally accepts his proposal in Eclipse and I think they’ll expound on that in the 3rd movie.

I like the ending. I guess only those who love the books, as much as I have read New Moon five times will truly understand it. I’m glad they were truer to the book this time.

  • Rashad

I actually liked the way the movie ended. It got me really excited for the next movie.

  • Kelly

I enjoyed the ending because its defintley leaves u wanting eclipse real bad. And who wants to see Bella saying No and have the movie end. I think it was well done and i’m sure they will touch on how shes hesitant on saying yes in Eclipse.

  • mallen

I thought it was a good way to end. I can’t imagine many people watching don’t already know what happens, and dramatically the question was a better place to end than Bella’s answer.

  • BrandonK

I had no problem with the ending, although it would have had more impact if they’d emphasized her issues with marriage beforehand.

    • CVisca

Good point! They really haven’t touched on her relationship w/ Renee and her parents issues much… which is pretty important to the development of Bella in the books… g’point.

    • Twilightfan

But. . . Bella’s issues with marriage aren’t even mentioned until AFTER Edward proposed.

  • Amy

I thought it was a good ending. Can’t quite remember how the book ended.

  • jennifer

I like the ending because it will be a better involvement with Edward and Bella, and Jacob, and more interesting later in Eclipse.

  • pj

one lady in the theatre swooned and everyone busted out laughing. it was great.

  • ATL TWIMOM

I liked the ending. My children have not read the books and of course wanted to know what she would say. I agree some of the marriage issues should have been at least hinted at, although they are more clear in Eclipse as she works through it.

    SPOILER ALERT:

I am SOOOO looking forward to the scene where she cracks her hand on Jake’s face and the fallout at Charlie’s, the call, the roar of engine, the proud of you comment, all the way to the warning at the car. I really hope that kept that whole scene straight out of the book as it was one of the best parts of the series!

    END SPOILER

    • Lindsey

I love that scene! Every time I read it I die laughing and I have read these books at least five times. I really hope they keep this in the new movie exactly as it’s written.

      • nzblue

i think it’s they cut it, and it will be in DVD’s coz i read taylor’s interview with OK mag and he mentioned that scene..so hopefully it’s in the DVD copies..

The books are written on a 4th grade level. It’s an interesting take on vampires, true, but they are glorified romance novels. If you are looking for a truly good series to read, “Harry Potter” is best. If you are looking for a truly good vampire story, Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the series) is the best. Let the hate begin…

    • Jim

Tim, you pulled the thoughts right out of my head!

    • hazel

      I actually agree with you

    • BilbrosB4Hos

Tim, I don’t hate you, I just hate it when people bring up Harry Potter here. Apples and oranges.

    • Nerwen Aldarion

Actually Harry Potter is truly a 4th grade book, Singing hats and “Hoggy Hoggy Hogwarts” don’t scream adult. Twilight has real adult themes, which is why it does appeal to adults, Harry Potter truly is a child’s book.

      • Tarc

Have you read the Harry Potter books? Clearly not. There is no way around acknowledging that by the seventh book, it’s as mature in both writing and theme as any other classical book out there.

      • dani

You are so wrong about that Nerwen.

      • Kate

Harry Potter is like many classic disney movies: It is adult content packaged for kids. This makes it enjoyable to all ages. And the themes and quality of each book grows and ages with Harry himself. The writing is brilliant and empowering. The story lines deal with *real* issues like racism, hatred, and grief. BilbrosB4Hos is right, it is like apples and oranges, because as far as I can tell, Twilight has no depth, no substance, and not as much appeal to an audience of all ages.

      • Regan

I agree. I read all the Harry Potter books to my kids. Twilight I read for myself. There is nothing “adult” about HP.

    • birdy

most publications are written at a 4th grade level, btw. and second, i love harry potter but it doesn’t do for me what twilight does. they are apples and oranges. and twilight isn’t just some trashy romance novel. puulleeaazze.

  • BilbrosB4Hos

Edward would NEVER, EVER have asked Bella to marry him without being on one knee. I was shocked that they missed that.

    • colin

      jesus christ

    • the_chosen_1

Actually in the books I don’t believe he got on one knee when he first proposed maybe the second time yes but not the first.

    • Andrea

Wrong, Bilbros. In the book he doesn’t propose on one knee either.

    • Jason Fowler

In New Moon he doesn’t propose on one knee. Which is why Bella doesn’t believe him at first. He doesn’t actually get on one knee, until Eclipse, and that is AFTER she agrees to marry him, in the end of Chapter 20 “Compromise” (I believe it is around page 159-160.)

    • BilbrosB4Hos

Wow, you guys are right. I was thinking of Eclipse.

    • RyRyNYC

WOW… pathetic. the WHOLE string… really.

    • BilbrosB4Hos

Really? You’re surprised that an article about the ending scene of New Moon would have fans talking about the ending scene of New Moon?
      WTF were you expecting here?

  • Maddy

I totally agree with Cass the ending worked. It would have been disappointing to hear Bella say no. I loved the movie so much!!!I can’t wait to see Eclipse!!

  • Kalie

I thought it was a clever device. He does propose to her in the book, but not in that particular scene and not at the very end. It was a nice cliff hanger for people who haven’t read the books and those who have already know how things turn out, anyway. I could see where things were going and I just knew they were going to end the movie that way. It was similar to what they did w/ the 1st one. We didn’t learn that Victoria was watching them when we read the book, but it’s something that could’ve happened. It set things up nicely for the 2nd and 3rd films.

  • the_chosen_1

I absolutely loved the ending because it was as close to the book as you were going to get. I love that he proposed and she didn’t answer but I believe in the book she never really gave him a definitive answer so I loved that it was a cliffhanger. Now I may be wrong about this because it has been a while since I read the books.
But there was one thing that I didn’t like and that was that Jacob didn’t rat Bella out about the bikes and she getting super pissed at him. I had wanted to see Bella really get mad at Jacob like she does in the book but it never.
But overall the ending was awesome.
