Well, here it is at last. The Project Runway season six finale airs tonight and I for one haven’t been this excited since … I last got my teeth cleaned. D’oh! I’m only joking. How can I not after this bizarre season that cruelly deprived us of the Holy Judging Trinity for weeks on end and forced us, time and again, to watch slack-jawed as ever-hideous designs limped down the catwalk? Grrr! But enough with that grumbling. Let’s now get down to speculating how this hootenanny might conclude. Who will win? And to quote Lady Ridonkulous herself (i.e. Tyra Banks), WHO! will be eliminated tonight?
The obvious answer to that first question is, obviously, Irina. Obviously. She’s won more challenges than both Carol Hannah and Althea, and from what we saw last week, her collection seems to be the strongest. Now, some Runway fans have argued that Irina’s villain persona poses too big a public relations obstacle for the show to crown her the winner. But I don’t buy it. For one thing, the Mean-a Irina character may be polarizing and annoying, but it keeps people talking. (Leanne who?) Post-win, she could chomp through her publicity tour on a diet of more controversial statements or she could try to convince us that she’s really just a muffin inside. Either way, she’s a godsend to the press. And let’s not forget that Runway does reward villains. Jeffrey Sebelia won season three and he made someone’s mother cry!
Of course, we also can’t overlook Nina’s warning last week against an all-black collection. Ooooh…! Ominous foreshadowing of Irina’s demise? My guess is it was just a red herring. Christian Siriano won season four with a collection that was heavy on the black, light on the color. But then again…he was Christian Siriano. And however talented Ms. Shabayeva is, she ain’t no Mr. Fierce. In which case…my money’s on Carol Hannah. Sorry, Althea.
Great. I’ve managed to confuse myself with all that back-and-forthing, so I’ll turn it over to you. What do you think? Will Irina crush her competition tonight or will Carol Hannah kick her stomach flu’s ass and walk away with the glistening, gold-plated, imaginary Runway trophy?
Before you do that…check out our groovy interview with Gordana!

Who cares? This season was so boring, and I found myself disliking or feeling neutral to almost all the contestants. Ramon was the only memorable and likable contestant, and I am sad he didn’t make it to Bryant Park.
i want althea to win but irina probably will. i don’t think carol hannah stands a shot.
Christian’s collection was not almost all black. 6 pieces were black. The rest incorporated various shades of brown and beiges. He started with the black pieces and ended with the light ones. Irina’s going to go from black to gray?
Judging from the collections that went down the runway in Feb, CH should win, but I think Irina probably will. Althea’s looked like crap.
I saw pictures from fashion week and Althea’s collection was the worst. She has no chance. Carol Hannah’s was just okay. As much as i dislike Irina, she had the best collection and deserves the win.
I pulling for Irina to win on principle but last week’s sneak peak at the collections didn’t really convince me one way or the other… of course, with the exception of Christian Sorriano I’ve vehemently disagreed with the ultimate winner in every other PR season.
Missy Schwartz’s on crack if she thought Irina’s collection was the strongest. I saw the images of the collections a few weeks after Fashion Week, and I have to say, Carol Hannah’s collection was the strongest.
This season was boring. I wasn’t drawn to anyone or their designs (last season, I loved all 3 finalists!). Sorta don’t care who wins, but I may tune in if I’m bored. My money’s on Carol Hannah as well.
It’ll probably be Carol Hannah, but I’m pulling for Irina. She has consistently been the best designer and the other two are boring as heck.
This season…..where do I start? Devoid of edge,design-wise and personality-wise. Just sad, boring, faded. The lack of favorite judges really didn’t help either. They should pray hard for villains, loons and genius next season. I have too many good shows to watch to stay faithful to this long-awaited sleep-aid. I never thought Project Runway could disappoint me…Survivor,American Idol,SYTYCD…sure…but the Runway was the creme de la creme. Was.
I think Carol and Althea would benefit from a Tim Gunn makeover
Christian’s collection was heavy on the overdone and ridiculous to me, a lot like his guy-liner! Go Carol Hannah, who justs seems to want it more than anyone else. I also agree this was not the most interesting season of PR on record- if this is any indication of how Lifetime is going to proceed, I say back to Bravo, which seemed a better fit…
How can you Irina had the best collection? I wasn’t that impressed with her collection. I was actually disappointed with her. But anyways, I saw the three of them on Regis & Kelly last week. Regis & Kelly asked them if they were happy with how the show ended (i.e. who won) and Irina said no, so I’m guessing she didn’t win.
I believe things would be a LOT different if the judges had been constistant. here’s hoping for next season!
Carol Hannah’s collection looks the strongest. Hope she wins it.
I agree that this season was boring but if Irina doesn’t win it would be just for drama… likes her or not, she is definitely more skilled and talented than the other two.
Irina told Tim that she put down her OWN thoughts about why she loves NY after her Coney Island (she mispelled Coney, BTW) shirts were nixed. Come to find out, she plagiarized every single line from an article in NY Magazine called “Reasons to Love NY”. Here’s the link: http://nymag.com/news/articles/reasonstoloveny/2008/ Remember her telling Tim that she loves Madonna? Actually, someone else came up with that line. She should not win for this reason alone. She’s passing off someone else’s work as her own and she said Althea is the copier????
