I learn so many things from reality TV. Thanks to the promo for ABC’s upcoming series Find My Family, which aired during last night’s Dancing With the Stars, I now know you can only find your family on a scenic hilltop with a beautiful lone tree. Who needs Kathy Griffin’s dance show when there are people who need to find their birth parents on camera? It turns out Find My Family is already a hit in a bunch of English-speaking countries, and has been operating an international people-finding organization as powerful as the U.N. for over 20 years. According to this international promo, “It’s safe to say that if Find My Family can’t find a lost person, they’ve probably vanished from the face of the earth.” Whoa!
I realize these are very sensitive issues and am often drawn to shows I know will make me cry, but after watching that promo Find My Family strikes me as too deliberately schmaltzy. Tell me: Is this really happening? Is Find My Family going to be popular in the U.S.? Please just lie and tell me no.

no.
(I lied. For YOU.)
well Annie I watched the screener and I was bawling. I suggest you check it out on ABC’s media site. I was crying through much of it. I thought It was really sweet. wouldn’t you rather see this show be a hit than Jon and Kate or that kind of crap. plus, both hosts were adopted, so they can empathize with the participants. It was very moving.
Isn’t this the same show as The Locator on WEtv?
I have seen the first show for ABC on screener and I thought it was going to be ridicoulus but I found myself in the first 10 minutes loving these people and crying my eyes out through the whole episode. It is feel good show that purposely is there to tell a good store and it does. The hosts are great too, really touching.
Try living it…..!!!! Yep, you cry a whole lot!!! All worth it…
This is absolutely one of the most absurd things I’ve ever seen on TV. To suggest that a birth parent is “family” is a slap in the face to millions of parents who’ve adopted unwanted children.
Your comment is a slap in the face to all the biological mothers who have been missing their children, grieving them–particularly since the bad old days of the Baby Scoop Era–adoptees have TWO families.
I agree. The comment is a slap in the face. Unplanned but not unwanted. If you lost a child to adoption, you would understand how absurd this comment is. There are some wonderful adoptive parents out there who are secure in their relationship with their children, that they support a search. Those that can’t support their children seem pretty selfish to me.
this show, might give me some hope to find my birth parents that I have never seen or met, I really want to find them I will have to send in my story to this show.
in italy they have a version of this where the host (also producer) has the raspiest voice i’ve ever heard from a woman. i want to scream “TAKE A LOSENGE!!” i hope i wont have to say the same of this show.
this type of show is ripe for emotional overload, its all in the editing…
So, what do they do if the “family” they find turn out to be violent criminals, or con artists who are going to end up leeching off the subject, or just jerks? Do they can it? Do they show it anyway? Or do they edit everything and give all the people the right soundbites so that it still looks like it’s a happy ending?
What if the biomom turns out to be a teacher, lawyer, business owner, president of a company? Why would you assume the worst?
i have a story… how do i get to talk to someone about being on your show?
I also have a family member who would like to find her father. How would we go about contacting you to see if we could be a candidate.
I am looking for my birth child.
Keep looking, it took over a year with the help of a PI through Catholic Chartities but I found him. He and his children have made a wonderful addition to the family. I raised 2 guys with my wonderful husband. When we told our oldest son, he stated, “I’m not giving up the #1 spot and my youngest wanted to know if he was still the shortest…. It’s been good without to many bumps.
I think this show is a wonderful idea. I am searching for my bio father and would love, love, love to find him.
Don’t you mean “**** My Family”?
I would love to find my father! He’s name is Roberto Dario Martinez and he is was born in El Salvador. I don’t know much about him but i want to find him so any body pass the word… Good luck to everyone who is searching.. Thanks
IAM 87 YEARS OLD I LOST TOUCH WITH MY PARENTS AND REALITIVES 65 YEARS AGO ,LETS SEE THEM FIND MY PEOPLE IF THEY ARE THAT GOOD
Were you adopted? That would make you 22 years old at the time. This show is for adoptees and biological families.
