'Dancing with Myself': Artie or Betty?

So I guess “Dancing With Myself” is having the best week ever: Last night’s Glee covered the song in one of my favorite numbers of the series so far.

But the tuned had re-entered my consciousness this weekend when it was on Ugly Betty:

Your move, “SheBop”!

Who put it to better use, PopWatchers, Glee or Betty?

Love the song, love Glee, but I didn’t like Glee’s arrangement. It usually gets skipped on my iPod.

i liked that we finally got to hear artie sing, but i liked the betty version better because it was cuter and matt was looking at her the whole time!

I loved that Matt was looking at her the whole time too!

I agree with rebecca. It was so beautiful/painful watching Matt watching on. Ugly Betty is soooooo good this season!

Yes, the Betty version was much better. The Glee version was a little depressing.

I can’t choose between the two shows. They both used the song very well.

I watched Betty on Saturday morning and debated purchasing it via iTunes – but than noticed it was $1.29 song (I refuse to assist in Apple making more money than necessary – why could they have not just kept prices at the very reasonable .99?). Shortly after a friend gave me the new Glee c.d. with the song on their. At first I did not like it, but after watching last night’s episode I like it much more!! But I love, love, love, love Betty. This is nothing against Artie or the geniousness that is Glee. Both were great in their own right – strong characters, who are standing up against the odds, and dancing to their selves. However I have to say that I found myself relating to Betty’s use of ‘Dancing to Myself’!

I know this is a little dramatic, but picking between Glee and Ugly Betty for me is like Angela’s Ashes. These are two great shows with awesome characters, and but make me happy. But if I had to pick one, it would be Ugly Betty. Why? I love the fact that a guy doesn’t define who Betty is and that she can be her own plus one. It’s very empowering!

I think you mean Sophie’s Choice?

I liked that on “Glee” it showcased Artie (and I was digging the Jason Mraz-y vibe), but I thought “Betty” used it better. (By the way, “Betty” has been pretty good this year, though most people probably haven’t noticed now that it’s on Fridays. Hopefully it keeps rolling when it gets to Wednesdays.)

Glee, hands down. It’s more original, and the Ugly Betty use was too on-the-nose obvious. Oh, she’s dancing alone to “Dancing with Myself”…..how creative….

    • PMD

Yes as opposed to the wheelchair kid dancing alone to “Dancing with Myself”?!?!

      • Nathaniel the Gleek

It’s actually a ton more relevant in Artie’s (the wheelchair kid’s) case because during the glee performances he is usually seen dancing alone. Not just in that one single episode, as was the case for Betty, but in multiple episodes preceding it. The plot building up to that moment was more developed and this is why Glee takes the cake in this comparison. Not to mention that the Glee version was more entertaining to watch and was more emotionally enthralling.

I watched both; the Betty scene happened first, btw. The article makes it seem like the Glee version happened first.

i have to say betty, only cuz it was the original version. am not a big fan of the nouvelle vague version.

I’ll say Glee put it to better use because there was a new arrangement, whereas UB just used the original song at a party, so credit to Glee for being more creative. As a true 80s baby, I’ll take this song wherever I can get it, so the more the merrier lol

loved artie’s version – which was actually based off the NOUVELLE VAGUE cover of “dancing with myself”, it wasn’t an orignal lounge version of the billy idol song.

  • JACKjack

Is this even a question? GLEE. Artie’s rendition was so fantastic it’s the one song from Glee I would buy and actually listen to! love love love loved it! and I love Artie!!!

    • Chris

i agree. Glee’s version has been in my head the last 2 days. i think it’s more emotional and better gives you a sense of what artie goes through.

i’ve gotta give it to Betty.

  • Sheila

Loved Glee’s version. The arrangment was really unusual and sounded great. Artie’s voice was better than I had realized.
