Nicole Sperling, one of EW’s esteemed box office numbers-crunchers, is predicting a big win for Disney’s A Christmas Carol this weekend, pulling in what she estimates will be $41 million. But are you movie-goers really ready to embrace the holiday spirit so soon? Or in the mood to watch a couple hours of Jim Carrey in this performance-capture animation 3D flick? Well, if not, there are plenty of other options out there — from Michael Jackson’s This Is It and scare-fest Paranormal Activity to George Clooney’s The Men Who Stare at Goats (yes, really!) to The Fourth Kind — although we’re predicting they’ll manage far less when it comes to dollars at the box office.
But these box office predictions are just that: predictions. They don’t mean anything if you—yes, you out there PopWatchers!—don’t actually go to the theater. Which brings me to my question and ensuing unscientific poll: What are you planning to see this weekend? Are you going to get into the spirit with A Christmas Carol? I have heard a lot of good things about This is it, so I have caved in and will watch it this weekend.

Saw “Paranormal Activity” already and it wasn’t bad but it certainly wasn’t the scariest movie I’ve ever seen. Meh. “Fourth Kind” looks really like a dvd rental. I’m going for “Men Who Stare at Goats”. George Clooney is generally worth the money.
i’ll see TII for the 2nd time. i can’t believe Owen Gleiberman gave “The Men Who Stare at Goats” an F. makes me want to see the film even more.
i also want to see Precious, and maybe The Box, if it gets good reviews.
