Jane Lynch 'campaigning strongly' for Sue Sylvester to sing on 'Glee': An EW exclusive!

This just in: While delicious villain Sue Sylvester has yet to break into song on Glee, almost-certain future Emmy nominee Jane Lynch tells me she is “campaigning strongly” for a musical moment in a future episode of Fox’s freshman sensation. And what song is in her character’s heart right now, you might ask? Press play below to find out, then suggest other possible song choices for surly Sue in the comments section below! (And if you can’t get enough Glee/Idol/ridiculata, follow me on Twitter @EWMichaelSlezak!)

    Awww I love her!

  • Andy G.

I remember she said Rose’s Turn from Gypsy in one of her interviews or something a while back, and that would just be awesome. Like, TV exploding awesome.

    • Kristen

Oh my God, this would make me die of joy overdose. It must happen. MUST!!!

      • Javabooknut

That song would be genius for her character

  • melissa

She should sing the song that she sang in the movie Another Cinderella Story when she played a has- been pop singer. I think it’s called “On Hold For You.” Love everything Jane Lynch!

  • Rose

I was going to say she should sing the song from Another Cinderella Story too! I love Jane Lynch.

    • Sculliosis

      Another Cinderella story?
      What are you? Five?

      • Sara

Resorting directly to insults isn’t exactly the most mature thing. Pot calling the kettle black, perhaps?

Maybe Rose is (gasp) a parent.

      • Matt

Or maybe Rose is 5. Or maybe Rose just isn’t jaded and can still find enjoyment out of things. It’s a sad world when we are going to be insulted for liking something innocent.

  • Tim G. (@rural_juror)

Did you have a longer interview with her Slezak?! Are you holding out on us?!

  • Chappel

She’s already danced… of course she should sing… “The Bitch is Back”, by Elton John.

    • b

hahaha. Could that be played on TV though?

      • Anne

When it’s in a song, it seems to be okay. I saw “The Bitch of Living” on several shows when they were promoting Spring Awakening.

  • Flyer

That’s right, Jane Lynch is a really good singer. (Check her out in the Christopher Guest mockumentary on folk music, “A Mighty Wind.”)

    • orville

I forgot she was in that! Now we need some guest spots from the Christopher Guest gang. Their brand of hilarity would meld well with Glee’s.

  • G

Something vulnerable would continue to give us greater character insight for her… though I could see her singing something aggressive and manly, like “Born to be Wild” or something like that. In the Madonna episode, if she were to sing, I think she could be great doing “this used to be my playground,” if she were to be mourning the loss of her beloved Cheerios and her power on the playfield of the school.

    • orville

Oooh–good call on This Used to be My Playground.

      • gigi

YES!! Good call for you too!! I can so see her singing that!!

      • Javabooknut

Another great suggestion. I also would like to see more vulnerability ala the swing dance episode. My only complaint has been the one dimensionality of the character and I love that they are chipping away at that.

  • michka

    Hahaha!
What about “POOR UNFORTUNATE SOULS” ? Sue will be amazing!

    • chattypatra

      Excellent suggestion, michka!

    • Psac

I don’t know if Disney/ABC would give the song rights to a FOX show. Have they done any Disney songs yet? (Even something like a Miley song?)

      • Crysta

They probably wouldn’t, and if they did it probably be a very short list of songs that no one likes. lol.
Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers probably could lent out their songs on their own or convince Disney to let them, since they have enough “power” to do so.

    • Kate

Fantastic idea – hopefully Disney would see it as promoting The Little Mermaid. It’s a great song!

  • ms.kelly

    Bossy by Kellis perfect

    • RtG

I would pay to see Sue sing “Bossy”! Too funny.

  • Maiv

That would be such a win moment! I agree with the “Poor Unfortunate Souls”

  • Wordchick

Several years ago I worked for a theater company in Chicago where Jane Lynch was one of the regular actors. Jane has a fantastic voice and if she gets a shot to sing, she’s going to blow everyone away.

    Go Jane!!!

  • djk

    the grinch song!

  • djk

poor unfortunate souls would also be amazing:)

  • Hayley

Seriously, if this happens I will die of happiness.

  • Vickie

I think she should sing I Touch Myself. That would be great!

  • RtG

I never noticed how pretty Jane Lynch is.

  • Anonymous

Every time a song of Rose’s from Gypsy is mentioned as a suggestion, I die a little. That would be so brilliant.

    • Mandy

It HAS to be “Everything’s Coming Up Roses.” Oh, man, that would be incredible.

  • Tey

I think she should sing “There Are Worse Things I Could Do” from Grease. She would TOTALLY ROCK that song!!!

  • gigi

First off Slezak gets a shout out for putting “future Emmy nominee Jane Lynch” in his article. Good suggestions by all too, but I’m kinda wanting to see a vulnerable side of Sue. How about “Last Dance” by Donna Summer? or something by “People” by Strisand? Sue needs a big song!!

  • namedafteru

“Bitch” by Meridith Brooks or anything by Alanis Morrisette

  • wg

So just under the article (“press play below”) is a video about Twilight, not a video about Jane Lynch. Confusing!

  • Nee Nee

I really love HER choice for song. It would open the show up to some awkward and unexpected hilarity from the very brash and insensitive Sue Silvester.

  • Amy

I want Sue to sing!!! I think Bitch by Meredith Brooks would be a good choice for her. Also, whoever said Poor Unfortunate Souls, I agree with that as well.

  • Dinana

I love Jane…she’s so funny and so good and lip curling snide…maybe a “Sue’s dream” episode where she’s sweet and singing! Then wakes up like she’s had a nightmare!

  • Dinana

Or Sweet Sue in a Parallel universe…twilight zone-ish!

  • dohrayme

    Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves!

  • MikeoftheC

    “Milkshake”

    She HAS to sing Milkshake

  • CH

“Future Emmy nominee?” Try future Emmy WINNER.

    • aurelia

I think Jane Lynch is a lock to win this year.

  • kitkat

Have a few ideas: “Get What I Want” by Tom Maxwell, “Cruella De Vil” by Selena Gomez, “Maniac” by Michael Sembello, “I hate everything about you” by Ugly Kidd Joe, and “Don’t wanna waste my hate on you” by metallica
