For a moment — when Vicki had her hand around Elena’s throat and threatened to rip her little head off if she tried to keep her away from Jeremy, to be precise — I thought Vicki might actually be worth keeping around on the show. Later, however, when it didn’t occur to her to have sex with Damon as she complained about being bored (I thought Stefan said all the urges meld together, so why couldn’t she think about blood and sex when Damon was giving her those eyes?), I was ready to kill her myself. I know she couldn’t bed him if we were supposed to feel sorry for her when she couldn’t control her fangs around Jeremy at the school Halloween party and got staked by Stefan after she attacked Elena. (You go for the neck, not the shoulder, Vick!) But if she wasn’t going to be Damon’s love slave, then I’m fine with her exit. She did manage to get the Salvatore brothers into the same room without them threatening to kill each other — instead, they argued over the proper way to raise young vampire Vicki, with Stefan pushing his no-humans philosophy and Damon his “Snatch, eat, erase” motto. But that was gonna get old. Having a vampire with an addict mentality and impulsive personality is interesting in theory, but not when it makes her behave as stupidly and selfishly as she did when she was human. Are you sorry Vicki is gone? Let’s take it to a vote in the poll at the end of the post, friends.
More thoughts on the episode:
• If you haven’t read Michael Ausiello’s interview with Kayla Ewell, head there when you’re done here. She tells him that they reshot her death scene. Originally, it was Jeremy who staked her to save Elena. But they decided they wanted Stefan to do it because it makes him look more like a hero. I’m confused about where Stefan and Elena stand now. Are they back together, or was she just telling him how hard it will be for her to keep being apart from him when she said she can’t lose her feelings for him? I thought the former, until the use of “vampire rebound” in the promo for next week’s episode, when Stefan gets a visit from an old female friend, made me think it has to be the latter. “Stefan smiles. Alert the media!” Consider me alerted. And psyched!
• Tyler took the shirtless bullet this hour, and yet I still agreed with Damon when he said, “Oh, come on, who’s gonna miss this idiot?” after apparently getting so upset with Ty for using the word “dude” that he wanted to kill him in the opening scene. Sadly, Damon just glamoured him into forgetting that Vicki had vamped out (though not with Logan’s blood still on her face, psych!) and talked about how hungry she was in a way that was supposed to be sexually charged but did absolutely nothing for me. The first time I watched the scene, I thought Vicki was referring to Damon when she said, “Don’t you hurt him.” But on repeat viewing, I realized I’ve just watched the Godric episodes of True Blood too many times. Did Vicki feel any kind of special loyalty to her maker? Did Damon actually feel sad when he saw Vicki’s slightly shriveled body? You want to believe Elena’s “it matters” speech got to him, and that’s why he showed up at her house and offered to do what Stefan couldn’t: Glamour away Jeremy’s memory of Vicki’s semi-sexy lipsucking and staking, so he thinks she’s just left town like poor Matt will now. But I don’t believe Damon did it just because he realized if his cold heart felt a tinge of remorse, imagine what Jeremy was experiencing after losing the only person who made his parentless life bearable. I think Damon knew it was better for him if Jeremy didn’t remember. No way you trust someone that fragile with a secret.
• Elena takes a lot for granted when it comes to Damon. Vervain just protects her from Damon’s mind games, right? Not from him biting and draining her? Yes, her slapping Damon for not caring about Vicki’s death was badass and good TV, but HE’S A VAMPIRE. YOU HAVE AN OPEN WOUND. HE’S TOLD YOU REPEATEDLY THAT HE HASN’T KILLED YOU — “YET.” Do not make the man say you should leave twice.
• Damon needs to flirt with more cougars. “Well, are you happy with your husband?” he asked Tyler’s cocktail-loving mother after she said her husband wasn’t going to he happy with her for running so late. Damon can be a good listener when he wants to be: He now knows that she has Vervain, that there is a council behind the vampire hunt, and that they have no idea that vampires with a special ring can go out in daylight. (I bet they also don’t know about vamps using coffee to send caffeine through their veins to warm their bodies to the touch.)
• Jasmine Guy as a grandmother still makes me uncomfortable. But I’m ready to see more of her. After Damon tried to take back the crystal necklace Caroline had given Bonnie to wear with her witch costume — and his hand burned — grandma informed Bonnie that it had belonged to one of her ancestors. How soon do you want to kick this witch storyline into high gear? Gram says magic’s meant to be real and serious. Pull the trigger, and let’s get Bonnie some screen time. I think the actress could handle a serious scene (read: doing magic not at a carwash) and more childish bickering with Damon.
• Was my favorite line Damon’s response to Stefan questioning why he was letting Vicki leave the house — “She’s been cooped up in your room all day. She’s not Anne Frank” — or his “Uh… my bad” after he encouraged Vicki to try out her superspeed and she bolted to her house? Did Damon and Stefan have the same level of tracking ability when it came to Vicki, even though Damon was the one who turned her? And Damon simply never cared enough to go after her, so that’s how Stefan always found her first?

Definitely enjoyed vampire Vicki, but didn’t see her being able to do much else on the show. Hopefully they bring her back from the dead because Kayla Ewell is easy on the eyes and her acting isn’t bad either.
hated vicki. glad she’s gone; hope it lasts.
i just think your jealous
After seeing Vamp Vicki, I think she would have had more potential than, let’s say, Caroline, as far as survival rate/longevity on the show.
Agree with you, Mandi, that seeing Jasmine Guy as a grandmother is kind of disturbing. If going by JG’s actual age (47), then grandma would have had given birth around age 15, and then that kid would have also had a kid at 15, that kid being Bonnie, who is supposed to be about 17? Um, okay.
All in all, thought it was good episode, good recap.
Jasmine Guy might actually be 47, but she could pass for mid 50’s. The girl playing Bonnie is older than she’s playing, and it’s always harder to make someone older appear younger than vice versa.
that was not a recap at all!
Maybe witches don’t age much either, but not to the extreme of vampires. Maybe she is really older but looks fairly young.
My fav line from Damon was totally the “My bad…” one, made me laugh out loud
my fave was when Bonnie wasnt giving the necklace to him because it was Carolines and he was like “Aww, Loyal”
Love this show! Haven’t seen this episode yet but it sounds awesome. I definitely want Bonnie to get some more screen time, she has great potential as a character. And more Bonnie/Damon scenes!
why are you reading this page if you havn’t watched it yet?
you’ve ruined a brilliant episode for youself!
Because I like to be spoiled. And its a free Country!
Don’t feel bad, I get in trouble all the time for looking at the back of my book!
Have just started watching the show don’t know exactly what to think of it. Not bad really but I wouldn’t stay home for it.
Vampire High and Vampires in History, Geography, Anatomy, and Poetry
So glad she’s gone. Someone had to put that girl out of her misery.
I am so angry and disappointed that they killed her off. That storyline had so much potential!! And Kayla Ewell is a terrific actress, I can’t believe they let her go!
I loved the idea of a bad-girl vamp, especially one that Damon created. Hot stuff. And they just totally killed it. Sigh.
I like Vikki she showed style… I hope somehow they bring her back maybe as a zombie lol… I don’t like Elena she is too much of a drama queen…
Loved it! I’m so glad that the media didn’t ruin the surprise of Vicki getting staked. I wish they wouldn’t make Elena so whinny – she kinda sounds like Bella at times ;0}
You are so right – I think she is venturing into Bella territory. I liked her for most of the episodes, but during these last two, she has been very whiny.
Let’s see, she just found out her new boyfriend was a vampire, his brother was the one responsible for all the deaths around town, Vicki was turned into a vampire because of Damon, Jeremy is still a mess and now in danger because of Vicki but she can’t tell him why, and she has to lie to everyone else about not knowing about what is going on, so she’s carrying a lot of guilt. I think she has a few good reasons or two to “whine” about it…
Too true. Good call. She has been a bit of an annoyance to watch. Keeping secrets and carrying guilt around are not good reasons to be whiney.
I’m having the opposite effect. She was pretty bland in the beginning, but since she realized they were vampires, she’s really stepped it up for me. It’s not just some small secret or guilt about something trivial, it’s people’s lives we are talking about. All those innocent people’s lives. Her brother’s life. She was shown to be fiercely protective, I mean, going after a vampire to protect her brother. I was glad she slapped Damon, she was just disgusted about his nonchalance about all the deaths he’s caused. Should she have just said “oh, you’re vampires. Oh well, I’ll just keep my mouth shut and let you guys do your thing?” Even though Damon is my favorite (’cause he’s the most interesting), I’m just tired of everyone giving him a pass for all the deaths and hurt he’s caused because he’s funny and hot but then complain that Elena is “too whiny.”
New fan to the show-last night’s ep was only the 2nd I’ve seen but I LOVE Damon and enjoy watching Ian have so much fun playing him. I enjoy the Damon-Elena scenes more than Stefan-Elena scenes. Stefan is kind of a drag but I do need to see the eps I’ve missed as they’ll probably give me more insight into the character.
Since Elena and Stefan bore me to tears, more so the actors that play them, not the characters, I wanted Vicki to hang around. She creates needed conflict and distraction away from the Dawson’s Creek vibe I get from Stefena. And words cannot describe how much I love Damon’s character, and the fact that he showed a weak side at the end of the episode. Of course, it is all for his benefit, but still. Loved the episode, and I am so glad that they have veered away from the high school setting and shenanigans.
I loved the episode. Even though I liked the ending where Damon showed some compassion, a part of me can’t help but feel that he somehow added his own mischievous memory into Jeremy.
I thought that also!
I am sure Damon took into consideration that wiping Jeremy’s memory was in his best interests but I am also certain that he really wanted to do something for Elena that Stefan couldn’t do. I think we’ll see a bit of a change in his character, not softening necessarily but more directly interested in Elena especially in light of next week’s previews of the visiting female vampire who draws Stefan’s attention. I am curious to see what Damon does with the information he gathered on the council, whether he shares it with Stefan and they work out something together or tries to settle things himself.
ok, damon being sensitive does not fit the mold of his character — what was in it for him? what was the motive? maybe he didn’t really do the mind game that he told everyone else he was doing on elena’s brother… they didn’t show that part.
so shocked when vicki died.
i love damon – he’s sexy – i still miss him from LOST.
BOOK
Well, in the book, Damon is not black and white. He’s got a bad side but also a good side. He wants Elena’s affections and is jealous of Stefan. Even in the show, Damon didn’t start out bad…he and Stefan were close and friends as well as brothers. His character has layers, which makes him a much more compelling character.
So far courtney I think that is true on the show too. I certainly didn’t believe him last night when he gave his whole speech about not caring that vicki died and it doesnt matter. And I agree, he is far more compelling than stefan…snoozer.
When Elena slapped Damon, he looked like he wanted to hit her. Also Jasmine Guy has not aged well at all so I can believe her as a grandma. When Vicki was threatening Elena that was good. I kind of wanted her to stay just so she could threaten Elena. I hated Vicki’s boots. What kind of boots have an open toe? Tyler should have died. also can’t wait for aonnie/Damon storyline. I think her great great or whatever grandma was Damon’s girlfriend and she gave him that necklace. The actress in the pic has been in numerous tv shows and movies.
i think he looked like he wanted to kiss her.
agreed. Kiss then bite.
Yep: Kiss, Bite, Feed, Erase….
Damon definitely has it bad for Elena. I liked when Elena slapped Damon because it showed she isn’t a wimp. It also showed that Damon is just as vulnerable to Elena as Stefan. I could read his thoughts in that scene. he was thinking that Elena is fiesty and he liked it. After all, Damon loves to play games. Ido agree that this is probably the beginning of a new dynamic between Elena and Damon. and i for one am looking forward to it!
Loved the Anne Frank line….Love Damon more every week!
I only got hooked onto this show a few weeks ago and I’m sad I missed those first episodes. Damon’s character makes that show. His lines are fantastic and the way Ian Sommerholder can do that dark and sexy gaze? Anyone who says Twilight is better than Vampire Diaries should have their head checked. Damon is SO much sexier than Edward
I agree with you. Though I love Twilight..Damon is much sexier!
The best parts of this show were Damon’s lines:
“You’ve kept her cooped up in the house all day. She is not Anne Frank”
“Okay, Count Deepak. I’m out of here.”
“Dude. Seriously? Dude.”
It is also obvious that he cares for Elena or he would have slapped her back or worse when she hit him (especially since she was bleeding all over the place). When Elena said that she wished she could forget, I think that Stefan should have asked Damon to glamour her as an act of sacrifice – but when he actually started to do it, Elena stops the process because of her feelings for Stefan. It would have given Stefan hope and pissed Damon off.
i think that damon likes elena – and he is going to try and kiss her and convince her he’s a good vampire.
When I was watching the whole Elena wanting Damon to “glamour” (to use a term from TB) Jeremy I was just thinking how great these actors are. They really do well with the material and make it not cheesy at all. Love it!
Great episode. Im also uncomfortable with Jasmine Guy playin a grandma and I also what the witch storyline to step up more.Im really enjoyin this show. Poor Jeremy, the kid has issues for days
I seems like I’m the only one excited to see Jasmine Guy! I mean, granted, the whole talisman thing was right out of Teen Witch, but I think Whitley will make a great witch.
I think that many are excited to see her, but are shocked that the years don’t look like they were kind to her
Am I the only one who thought Bonnie’s ancestor looked like Catherine’s “maid” from when the boys were first made vampires?
No – you are not. I thought the same thing.
No. I noticed that too.
Yes, she was Katherine’s helper. =)
So didn’t notice that! Good call!
HOORAY! I’m so glad I’m not the only one who noticed. I KNEW that the maid was somehow relative/ed to Bonnie
Vicki as a Vampire was the most interesting thing they did with that annoying character. Too bad it didn’t pan out. But whatever.
They should have made Jeremy kill her because right now he has absolutely no redeeming qualities. He’s angry all the time, never smiles, never wants to do anything, doesn’t listen to anyone, is very rude, does drugs, and only cares about himself. Why are we supposed to like him?
If he staked Vic to save Elena it would have been his first self-less act ever. Right now I don’t even buy that they are brother and sister because they have no chemistry. I don’t see a sibling relationship there. Somebody kill him please. He brings the whole show down.
loved the show!!!
can’t wait till next thursday!!
vicki was great but glad she is dead having a female vamp on the show would just make it weird!!
can’t wait to see more of bonnie!!! i would like to see elena and stephen get back together!!!!damon is so HOT!!!!
There’s always the chance they could bring one of Vikki’s ancestors back to Mystic Falls from another century… and she would just happens to look amazingly similar to ‘dead Vikki’. I think she had tremendous potential as an actress. She was at least believable as a self destructive, angst filled teen trying to escape from her own self loathing life any way she could. Too bad. I actually felt sorry for her.
I hated Vicki as a human but perked up when she threaten Elena, who I can’t stand. Too bad she got staked. Elena is hypocritical to deny Jeremy Vicki when she is making cow-eyes at Stefan. And JG as a grandma makes me flinch. Damon is still the most interesting thing on the show but as Vicki’s maker he has total control and is her mentor, not Stefan, who is so annoying.
I am not sorry to see Vicki gone. I am sorry for the pain it will cause for the men in her life, especially her brother. And to tell him that she just ran off. I think they need to think up a better lie. Like a reason that she died, like she ran across the road in front of oncoming traffic and got hit. I feel sorry for her brother the most, he was always there for her. Her storyline was always party girl, party girl, party girl. When she came on the screen I usually left the room. I hope they can give more time to the storyline of Elena & Stefan now.
Damon makes this show.
Damon was excellent, as always. He looked P*SSED when Elena was trying to lash out at him. A lot of restraint was shown from him right there, what with Elena bleeding all over the place. And the last bit where he stepped up and did what Stefan couldn’t. A little bit of sensitivity shown, but I think he just wanted to one-up Stefan too. I don’t know why they let him go in there alone though. Dumb move on S&E’s part. Was it just me, or did the Damon/Elena scenes have more spark than before?
