'The Office' webisode 'Subtle Sexuality': 'Male Prima Donna' premiere

Categories: The Office

You got a taste yesterday, but now the full first chapter of The Office’s new web series, Subtle Sexuality is here — and it’s pretty amazing. A quick refresher before the clip: With most of their coworkers gone, Kelly (Mindy Kaling) and Erin (Ellie Kemper) decide to shoot the first music video for their new girl group, Subtle Sexuality. The track, “Male Prima Donna,” is a not-so-subtle slam aimed straight at Ryan (B.J. Novak), who also raps a few lines as his alter-ego, Mr. Understood. But the real scene-stealer is Andy (Ed Helms), who busts a serious move as ‘Nard Dog. Okay, enough explanation. Time to get your mind blown:

You can watch the three short webisodes that accompany “MPD” at NBC.com. What do you think, Pop Watchers? Is Subtle Sexuality headed to the Top 40? And who’s the breakout star of the group?

ADDENDUM: I now have this song stuck in my head for real. Would an actual, buy-able Subtle Sexuality album be too big a wish for this Christmas?

Ryan reminds me of “Bobby Light”, Rob Dyrdek’s alter ego…

Yes, Adam, I would like a copy of “Male Primadonna” as well. I have to say, Erin brought it. I’m not used to her asserting herself, and even with Kelly the attention-starved, she held her own. Per the usual, Andy Bernard was top shelf, and even Ryan surprised me — I would think that this would’ve been a little beneath him anymore.

MORE NARD DOG!! Is there anything Andy Bernard can’t do!? Please, writers, we need more Ed Helms. He’s always the funniest part of any scene he’s in.

    • Dug

Agreed! I love how the writers and Ed took his initially annoyingly hateful character from the beginning to the lovable lunkhead that he is today… Kudos to the Nard Dog!

      • j

Now that Dwight is an ass Andy is my new favorite character!

  • Vanessa

That was hysterical! It’s better than most of the crap you hear on the radio. Erin and Andy were the stars of that for sure. I cannot wait to see more videos from Subtle Sexuality.

    • Ellie

If you listen to it without watching, you could easily confuse it with one of the”popular” songs nowadays.

I love The Office, and I love this. Erin is awesome!

  • Aprilcot26

And that, folks, is why people love ‘The Office.’ :)

    • Dug

AMEN to that Aprilcot! OMG I am laughing soooooo hard! Although it might not have fit, a guitar solo by Creed would’ve been epic… lol

  • Hrfe

That is so amazing its ridiculous
I hope that’s on the actual show at some point
and I would DEFINITELY buy a Subtle sexuality CD!!!!!

  • Beks

    • treee

      • KD

        My favorite line. SO GOOD!

  • Jess

If this were to come out on iTunes right now, I would buy it. This is amazing. I love Ryan and Nard dog in this video. Kelly and Erin are great but Ryan and Andy were sooo funny.

    • roux

On behalf of all Canadians who get blocked from the NBC website – THANK YOU! Erin’s wipeout trying to be sexy sliding off the desk is priceless.

    • Delon

God bless you, pal for providing the link! It’s a riottttt !!!!!

  • Dean

That was awesome. Straight out of Lackawanna! (a suburb of Buffalo for those who don’t know)

    • Kristen

In this song though, I’m pretty sure they’re referring to Lackawanna County, where Scranton, PA is.

      • Dean

Ah, that makes more sense. But if it’s all the same to you, I’m just gonna go on thinking it’s my Lackawanna, k?

  • Kristen

My favorite part of the whole song is the end when Mr. Understood goes “Lackawannaaaaaaaa!” Seriously, this song is better than 90% of the stuff on the radio right now. Love it!

    • Eddie

Do you even listen to radio today? This song sounds like all the crap on it. I’m not saying the song itself is bad but this song is a “Just Dance” rip-off. Which makes this song even better and funnier.

  • Chappel

Frakking brilliant! Erin rocks as a gangsta pirate… aaaaarrr! Hope we get to see their office-mates’ reaction to the video. I can see Michael’s reaction now: “Stanley, as our resident expert on hip-hop and rap, how would you rate this video?”. Pam will just stand there with her mouth open, Jim will stand with his mouth open and then look at the camera, Angela will say “that’s disgusting” Phyllis will say “it’s alright but you both look like sluts”, Dwight will call the police, Creed will excitedly yell “if anyone needs me I’ll be in the bathroom” on his way out the door and Kevin will just ask “What just happened?”.

    • Ruby

Nice review and pretty much perfect. I think you know this show very well.

    • Snsetglaze

      What about Oscar and Meredith?

      • Stephen

Oscar – Ryan’s rapping in guyliner may be the gayest thing I have ever seen, and that’s coming from someone who sleeps with men.

Meredith – I’m still upset with Kelly and Erin for not asking me to help out. I have experience being in a video with two guys. I mean, it wasn’t a music video, but still…

  • cz

hilarious! i wonder if this is the start of a spin-off…kelly and erin head off to LA to become pop stars…it could happen! didn’t Mindy Kaling (Kelly) get a production deal with NBC?
