Adventures in 'Celebrity Jeopardy': What is, Get a clue, Wolf Blizter?

Andy Richter killed on Celebrity Jeopardy, but uh, Wolf Blitzer? Wolf Blitzer did not kill at all. He misidentified a picture of a bowl of pasta as fettuccine (it was mostaccioli, which looks really really different), said “Julia Childs” instead of Julia Child, and then things took a turn for the even-worse.

In the E Times 3 category — where all the words have three Es — Wolf had a few choice answers:

  • Answer: King David and Jesus both hailed from this town.
Wolf: What is Jerusalem? (“O little town of Jerusalem…” Come on, dude.)
  • Answer: An accused person in court, along with his counsel
Wolf: What is a defendant? (One E too few, Wolf. Try defense.)
  • Answer: Selected some material from a larger work
Wolf: Annotated. (He didn’t even have the “what is” in there. And that’s not what annotated means, and it only has one E. So, three-fer.)

Finally, to the clue “The 1850s saw a bad one of this 5-letter word that refers to an economic crash and the fear-driven rush to sell,” Wolf responded, “What is a crash?” This, friends, is how you wind up $4,600 in the red at the beginning of Final Jeopardy.

PopWatchers, this would bug me less if he seemed like he was being a good sport about it, but man, he’s all grumpystiltstkin up in there. On a scale of Fake Burt Reynolds to Fake Sean Connery, where do you rank Blitzer’s performance?

i watched that show yesterday and was amazed that Andy Richter blew away Wolf Blitzer…I know that show is stressful, but they’re playing for ‘fun’ and charity…Wolf- you coulda smiled once or twice while blowing your answers…

    • James

I was amazed Andy Ricther blew away everbody what was his final total going into final Jeopardy like $39000? but yet Blitzer was realy shameful and Darrel Hammond’s Sean Connery and Norm MacDonald’s Brt Reynolds would blow away Wolf

  • Vicki

I loved that Wolfe was dumb as a stump. He just reads the news, Andy reads.

  • Marc

I’m right there with you Vicki. It just goes to show that the media’s opinions do not carry the pulse of this country.

  • Q

More reasons to love Andy Richter. Smart = funny!

    • seesaw

yep! i loved andy anyway and this added to it bigtime!

  • KristinK

closer to Burt Reynolds… just spewing asinine answers. I really thought Trebek was going to call him on it there for a minute… repeating “the answer has to have 3 e’s… three”

  • Moose

What I got from yesterday’s episode… Andy Richter is really, really smart. I was so impressed!

  • Rich

What was up with giving Wolf $1000 to participate in Final Jeopardy? In later games, that could affect the outcome. Since the prizes to the charities are dictated by the positions of the players – unless the winner, like Andy, ends up with more than $50K – just give Wolf $1. That way he gets to play, but he’s assured of third place.

Wolf Blitzer, typical liberal….needs to have a financial assist to compete. He is a news reader on CNN. Basically, the news crawl with a pulse. How useless!

      • M

        Get over yourself

      • Johnny D.

Wolf Blitzer is a liberal, now?

  • Elaine Connelly

Wolf Blitzer is an idiot. Otherwise he wouldn’t be on CNN. (CLINTON NEWS NETWORK, COMMUNIST NEWS NETWORK, CRAPPY NEWS NETWORK). Take your pick. Perhaps it was his giddiness at the fact that Obummer was elected.

    • chichi

Well, someone had to come along with the pin that pops the balloon.

    • JMJ

Stupid people make me laugh. Wolf Blitzer made me laugh on Jeopardy. You just made me laugh harder. Thanks.

  • Apolitical

Aww, Pubs (Ms. Elaine). Damn, can’t we just make fun of celebrities without the political commentary?

  • Rhonda

He has always sucked as a journalist – this is no surprise to me. He should, at long last, be fired for his performance here alone.

  • mattley35

I say his performance is pretty near Turd Ferguson levels. I feel a celebrity jeopardy SNL skit coming in the next few weeks.

  • Jennifer

This just proves that you don’t have to be smart to be a newsman, but you do have to be smart to be funny.

  • Don Wyman

Wolf is just like all the other news media “talking heads”. All they know about the world is what someone else writes and they read.

  • Pat

After years of watching Celebrity Jeopardy, I’ve noticed that Comedians do very well…

    • orville

You’re right–I never would have thought Cheech Marin would be a wiz at Jeopardy (or at least its easier cousin “Celebrity Jeopardy”) but, man, if he wasn’t one of the best celebrities ever on it!

  • Maddi

I’m sure Wolf would have run the board on a “current news cycle” category. But you have to be well-rounded to play Jeopardy well.

  • Jaye In Canada

Its been obvious for years how incredibly stupid Wolf Blitzer is. His “journalism” during the Presidential Election was a joke. Fun to watch. The fact that him and others like him have the ears of America and the world is a crime. I laughed so hard last night watching Richter wipe the floor with him.

  • Laura

Pat, I think you’re right. Didn’t Jon Stewart once win a lot of money on CJ?

  • rob

this is why we need more comedians (the one job where you have to be really, really smart to succeed) in power, and less “media personalities”. i postulate the al franken theory of politics: amazing jeopardy contestant = amazing senator

  • Jake

I remember a guy named Alex Trebek who used to be a ‘talking head’ newscaster.

Gee. I wonder what became of him?

    So much for that theory.

    • Joseph

ur commengt is irrelevant. just because he hosts the show does not mean he knows the answers. he just asks the questions. so that theory is valid. yours isn’t.

  • Mark

Also, Andy beats Dana Delaney at a Desperate Housewives question.

  • Karen

Andy’s not as dumb as he pretends and, apparently, quick on the button. Wolf Blitzer, I guess… is has dumb as his name makes him seem.

  • HIMYM

I was so sad that no one got the How I Met Your Mother question! Dana did better than I expected, but Andy definitely owned the field.

  • Blough Mee (China)

Blitzer does enough “analysis” etc.(more than just reading a teleprompter, or so I thought) I was disappointed by what a numbskull he actually is – you can’t blame just “slow on the buzzer” – that fact is what prevented him from winding up $20,000 in the hole. The answers he did get in on he blew. It would be funny if not so pathetic. And Andy IS both smart AND quick on the buzzer.

  • Michael

    Go Andy!!!

  • FunkDubious

I never really liked Andy until last night. Now, those where pretty easy questions, but he railed Blitzer and that was great. Tool bag news people.

  • Dale Hostings

Andy, I am impressed! New found respect!

  • betsybug

Now all I have stuck in my head is fake Sean Connery saying, “It looks like this is my lucky day…’ll take The Rapists for 200,” and fake Alex Trebek replying, “That’s Therapists, not The Rapists.”

  • Olaf

Wolf should be the next dumb SNL celebrity jeopardy member! I bet Palin is having a hoot tonight!

  • Amy

I’ll take “Jap anUS Relations, Alex.”
    “That’s Japan US Relations, Sean.”

    Andy rocked it!!!

On Wednesday’s Tonight Show they showed a clip of them doing a practice round. Wolf was a “donkey” to Andy when Andy asked him about his name and if Wolf was short for something. Wold also sucked at the practice round.

  • Maiv

I’m not too surprised he did that well. I saw the practice round on Conan, and he blew the competition away! Woohoo Andy!
