'Big Brother 11's' executive producer Allison Grodner: Finally, some answers!

Categories: Big Brother, Reality TV

Did Kevin and Natalie really cheat during that key-holding challenge? Did Jessie go too far when horsing around with Lydia and Natalie? Here, Big Brother executive producer Allison Grodner talks about the controversial challenges, and what it was like to play mom during Chima’s last weekend in the house. Check it out below, then find out what America’s favorites have to say in my finale chat with Jordan and Jeff.

Now don’t get me wrong I like Jeff, but he said and did a lot of bad things in the house. I wish someone would have had the balls to ask why they edited that stuff out to make Jeff look like an angel. It looks like you didn’t have the balls to ask that Ms Rice.

    • Pete

Tim, you are full of crap. I watch the feeds and Jeff did not do a lot of bad things in the house. 95% of the time his behavior was exemplary. He never instigated conflict with the other house guests. There were already plenty of other people that were intentionally causing drama. They didn’t need to edit Jeff to look like an angel, the rest of the cast did it for him because they were so willing to be bad.

      • jimw

I fyou watched the feeds you would have heard Jef threaren to stab Russell in the neck amd he said he wanted to cut off Michelle’s baby toe. He said and did a lot of things wheb he was HOH.

      • jimw

        wow I can’t type today.

      • BBFan

Yup, Jeff was homophobic, talked badly about Michele, and started the second fight with Russell. And yup, the producers didn’t air it.

  • Zach

It’s the voice of Grod! What about Kevin and Natalie’s calender? Wasn’t that against the rules? Should have asked.

And Will broke his mic before. Should have pressed her on that, not that I’m complaining that Chima was expelled.

  • factoryhurl

Show is over and my seething hatred of nataLIE continues…..Can’t wait til next summer~

    • KC

haha I can’t even watch interviews with her arrrrgghhh

  • Good luck Kevin

I wished you asked Allison about Jeff and Jordan’s statment that the DR producers tried to get them to keep Russell in the game. And about Kevin’s similar statement that that the DR producers pressured Kevin to keep Michele and Jeff in the game. I also wish you aked her about the can game.

  • Cindy

Personally, I think she’s lying. Twice they were told to look toward the pool and Kevin’s head looked like it was permanently turned to the right..he ran sideways on the log. If it had been someone else’s hand ‘touching’ only the top of the key..DQ’d. I would like to ask her, as I did when I called her personal voice mail, WHY did they change the Pandora’s Box from “the jury packs a punch” as advertised, to some pseudo-Bachelorette scenario especially for Gnat? Answer: We were trying to warm America. I would have asked her, straight up, how exposed the DR and production felt, when after Kev/Gnat/Lyd decided to tell the LML, and Lyd comes out of the D.R. and says “

  • Cindy

oops Lydiot says after exiting the D.R. “theysay they are going to help us because they think we are fun”..the DR promoted the lie, making Russell, Jordan, Michelle, & Jeff paranoid. Without the Diary Room’s assistance the BIG LIE (wooooo) would have fizzled. That’s why I’m never watching BB again..too much cheating and interference by Production and the Diary Room. Thanks Gnat, you ruined BB for so many people FOREVER. AG I don’t know what to tell you other than…maybe your time with Big Brother is over..you and the production/diary room staff are much too jaded.

In the logroll comp, as with the most endurance final 3 comps, the point is to HOLD the key, not rest your hand on it. She was clearly holding the rope, but not the key. Fan favorite or most hated, I think the player should be disqualified for that.

    • KC

She explained that, there are detailed rules gone over with the houseguests and they were told their hand had to be at least touching the key.

  • Tom Brazelton

I don’t trust Grodner any farther than I can throw her. It’s the tone of her voice – the way she justifies things.

  • Simon

Natalie’s a repressed lesbian and her “bachelorette” moment held zero chemistry.

    • JDeanB

      My thoughts exactly.

    • aleia

I have no idea if she is a lesbian but that proposal scene was one of the oddest things I’ve ever seen. The weird sideways hugs and “oh, hi.” “Will I marry you? You serious? Sure, what the hay.” Absolutely odd.

      • Chelsey

I thought it was, “Hell yes” but overall I agree with you. Her sexual orientation is immaterial, but the lack of chemistry is indisputable. Don’t think the presence of cameras had anything to do with her lack of excitement. I expect the engagement to be called off in a month or so.

  • Gert

Lydia and Jesse acted like trailer trash or a couple of horny dogs while on national TV. And Chima was a pig with her terrible behavior. I think Julie was so precious in her maternity clothes and I wish they would tell when the ‘little Julie or Maury’ is supposed to arrive?

    • shlbtlr

That is too funny Gert. Julie isn’t married to Maury… that’s Connie Cheung, lol

    • brad

little maury? isn’t that connie chung’s husband? julie chen is married to les moonves.

    • John

Little Maury? You mean Julie Chen is giving birth to Connie Cheung’s husband’s baby? For shame, Julie!

    • jim

And Maurey you are NOT the father.

      • Chelsey

Well maybe they should pull out that old paternity test. Maury always has plenty lying around.

  • Billy

While I know we’d all like for Lynette to press Allison on these issues (and then press some more), the truth is … if Allison thinks the EW reporters will ask really tough questions, she wouldn’t agree to future interviews.

  • Karen

Don’t you screen these contestants- Chima is clearly an emotional misfit with a few screws loose- and I didn’t believe one word of that story about being raped by a serial rapist/killer- She needs help- I was truly afraid she might harm someone.

    • James The Greatest

That story was not only real; it was fully documented in the news, blogs, and various other sources. Chima’s escaping actually helped them ID/catch the murderer (who has since been executed)! To suggest that she lied about something so serious is really, really irresponsible. Was she emotionally unstable and unlikable in this game? Undoubtedly, yes. Don’t call her ordeal a “story”, though; from the police records, it sounded more like a nightmare.

    • KC

That’s harsh I can’t stand Chima but she did not make up that story.

    • darclyte

Here is a link to the episode of Cold Case Files on the History Channel from their UK site that dealt with Chima’s rapist and the case against him:
      http://tinyurl.com/kvn8vw

      • darclyte

Hmm, for some reason the link won’t go to the description. At any rate, it was episode 90 called Déja vu:Secret in the well. Half of the episode dealt with a body found in a well and the other half dealt with the rapist/murderer who attacked Chima. He was caught 3 years after he attacked her (in part because of DNA evidence that detectives recovered from her attack) and was just executed this past February. http://tinyurl.com/kwu2tw

    • MM

Chima may have a few screws loose, but the story about being raped by a serial rapist/killer is 100% true. It happened about 10 years ago, but it’s still true.

    • Mike

I hated Chima as well but her story is 100% true, look it up on the web the story is out there….

    • rileykeo

I can’t stand Chima either, but about 3 weeks ago, my neighbor, who is also a Big Brother fan, we talk about the show each day, called me and said, quick, turn on your TV, turn on Cold Case, (not the Sunday night series, but the other one.) She said, Chima is on. They are doing the story about the rapist/murderer Chima talked about, but even she had missed most of the story. By the time I turned it on, I only got to see the end where they usually show the real person, not the actress/actor. This guy murdered the other women, she was lucky.

Still, if she thought just because of a horrible experience, it gave her the right to act like a prima donna jerk, she was sadly mistaken.

Also, she had nothing to act like a “Diva.” Diva’s at least have some talent.

    • Gagnon

Not only is Chima’s story true, but it was extremely brutal and shown on TV on cold case on A&E. She was attached , raped beaten and left for dead. She had just moved into a dorm type room and the person who assaulted her was actually looking for someone else but that person had already moved. Wow its amazing how bad people are talking about Chima, if you were raped, beaten and left for dead do you think that maybe YOU would have a problem with a man in your face like russell was??? yeah she fought back of course its live she needed to take some agression out and since he was doing what he was doing she retaliated. When Jessie left she felt there was no one left there to help protect her, she hit depression and felt unprotected in the house with a nutball like russell who purpusely tried to create issues. Find out the truth before you start talking crap about someone, rape is not something you just make up , so go to cold case watch it, look at the photos of her beaten body then come back and apologize you uncaring jerk.

  • Karen

I watched Showtime’s BB After Dark a few times and Natalie reached under the covers and grabbed Jesse’s and then showed the others the size-between her, Jordan and Jeff, Jesse and Lydia, they might as well be on another show and it’s not fit for prime time national TV. Jesse wasn’t interested in any of those girls- he’s as gay as it gets.

  • Karen

The only individual on this show with an ounce of class was Michelle. Russell was cruel and Jordin acts like a country bumpkin on purpose- what a bunch of losers! Jeff sells advertising- to who? Auto Trader?

  • jo.

Gert- I think you mean “little Les,” not “Little Maury.” Julie is married to Les Moonves.
Karen- Chima’s story is true. Do some Google searching and you will find articles about the man who was executed in February. But I agree that she needs help.
I like BB but I agree with others that the manipulation by Allison and the DR is getting out of control. I thought I would never watch after the Evel Dick season, when it was so clearly rigged for him and Danielle to get final 2, but for some reason I keep coming back. I enjoyed this year, but wished that “America” could have seen more of what those of us on the feeds saw- Jeff and Jordan weren’t always perfect little angels. I also wish Michele got a better edit. I think she would have had a chance at the 25k prize if they didn’t jack up the showmance of J/J.
