Amy Poehler will be on Bravo’s Inside the Actors’ Studio on Monday, Sept. 21 (DVR…set), and even though her Paula Abdul impression isn’t very good, it is awesome:
The Walken is pretty terrible, too, but this faux Paula quote just about killed me: “I understand that you’re an amazing person, and you bring love to so many people. And it’s what’s great about you, is you’re just, you’re joy, you’re joy…thing. You’re just filled with it. As long as people keep reaching for the stars, and as long as I have stars in my sky, and as long as love is what keeps us together, and as long as people keep singing and dancing, then forever the skies and love and people.”

I didn’t think it was a terrible impression of Paula. It would have worked perfectly with a brunette wig, heavy makeup, a wacky outfit and big jewelry. It was just hard to get over her doing Paula and being blonde.

Amy’s talented, but obviously, impersonations aren’t her thing. Didn’t sound like Paula Abdul or Christopher Walken, but the comments as Paula were funny.
Amy’s impression of Paula was not very good, but what she said was actually pretty much spot on Paula!
I just don’t get what people see in Amy. She’s funny, but I never found her to be as great as people said. The Paula stuff sounds funny when you read it…not so much when Amy does it. Nothing to do with the wig or clothing, the voice is just not right.
I’m not going to say that I’m the biggest AP fan or anything, but she was hilarious in mean girls.
I like Poehler and the content of what she said is funny, but she’s just never been a very good impersonator (impressionist?)
Exhibit A: Her Hilary Clinton impersonation. The real Hilary Clinton sounds nothing like Poehler’s impersonation (a fact that was glaring when the real Clinton showed up). However, what makes them work is the fact that Poehler completely commits to her (bad) impressions and sells them to the audience.
Amy Poehler has consistently said (including in this interview) that she’s not a very good impressionist. But it doesn’t mean she’s not hilarious when she does impressions.
I like AMy very much. I jsut wish she’d stop dying/bleachning her hair. YOU DONT HAVE TO BE BLONDE as your talent is why you have a job & fame.
