True story: I once froze a PB&J sandwich and chopped it up in a bowl of ice cream in a misguided fit of culinary experimentation. It wasn’t pretty (frozen bread is nobody’s friend). But that’s nothing compared to the stuff people are throwing into their sundaes these days. San Francisco’s SFoodie blog has a list of the weirdest ice cream flavors out there, and these things make my PB&J look as boring as plain old vanilla. A few of the unlikely flavor additions: Garlic, sausage, cheeseburgers, and raw horse meat. Yup, that’s right. Instead of caramel fudge, your next cone could have big chunks of Mr. Ed in it. Read on, if you’ve got the stomach for it, and then let us know: Which weird ice cream flavor makes you scream?

Off that list, the bourbon/cornflakes, candied bacon, and garlic flavors don’t scare me too much.
My favorite wacky ice cram flavor is the Sea Salt gelato at Capogiro in Philadelphia… It’s so good it’s an experience, but not one you can eat a lot of.
My favorite restaurant, The Garlic Rose in Cranford, NJ, serves garlic ice cream for dessert and it’s surprisingly tasty. My husband tried lobster ice cream in Maine and he seemed to enjoy it (I wouldn’t go near it).
when i was in Bar Harbor, ME they had Lobster and Butter ice cream… that is one flavor i will never try again.
One word for all flavors – EW!
How open minded
Whatev. They all sound disgusting.
Slightly related– you know you’ve watched too many cooking competition shows when someone makes bacon ice cream and you’re just like, “What, again?”
Favorite (slightly) unusual flavor: jasmine tea ice cream. Stunningly good, but the one place I’ve ever found it went out of business.
Ok, just knowing that there’s a raw horse meat flavored ice cream out there may have put me off of ice cream permanently.
The ice cream parlor with the lox flavored ice cream was featured in a documentary I watched recently (“An Ice Cream Show” I think it was called). The locals they interviewed really seemed to like a lot of the really weird flavors, especially the corn on the cob.
And I’m not sure why licorice is considered so weird. We have a local shop that’s been serving it for years.
One time in college, I was making ice cream with some roommates, and we were making avocado flavor. But we had this other crazy roommate who didn’t always necessarily believe in washing the dishes properly. And we didn’t realize the cutting board that we were chopping the avocado on was still laced with essence of garlic until we were eating the ice cream. It was a big thumbs down on the avocado-garlic ice cream, so I have my doubts about just plain garlic ice cream also.
My favorite is Lavender Honey…so delicious!
Well I know that Cold Stone Creamery has a PB&J shake. In fact a friend of mine ordered one while we were vacationing in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Still, ew.
Ice cream flavors for pregnant women, on the next Oprah.
