Here are some things you need to know about American Idol season 8 finalist Megan Joy: She’s not afraid to speak her mind in an interview, even if her answers seem likely to anger the powerful 19/Idol overlords. She’s as lovely (if not lovelier) without a smidge of makeup as she is when she’s gussied up on stage. And what you’ve heard from her (musically) to date is very very different from what she hopes to produce in a post-Idol career. Press play below and watch me try to extract info from Megan (at a recent Albany, NY tour stop) about a possible TV gig, the hot pink mini-dress she’s been wearing on tour, and her definition of success.

Yay Megan! You go, girl. I have faith in you.
What if that damn dress ripped, great big rip that couldn’t be repaired. What then?
I always thought she was more talented than she was able to show on her brief appearance on idol. ;o)
her? “talented”??? Good God.
Why the hell are you here then?
I love this interview. I have insane amounts of respect for Megan, and I can’t wait to see what she does next.
no, you’re just insane…
The only one insane around here is you, LaWanda. You’re insane to think your opinion is more important than anyone else’s. Your comments are extremely rude.
And that to me, IS the true definition of success! Good for you Megan!
did I miss something? what exactly IS the true definition of success?
Good for her! I could definitely see Megan doing the model/acting thing and then playing small gigs musically on the side. Go for it, girl!
Megan is great. I can’t wait to see what she does next. I hope she gets to do and be what she wants.
Thanks for another great interview Michael.
WHO CARES what she does next…as long as I don’t have to see it or read about it.
Yet you DID read this article and you DID comment on it. So you must care too.
I don’t understand, people like YOU say they don’t care, or don’t like a certain idol, yet here YOU are commenting on a site about that idol. Why even bother? Go somewhere else to spread your hate. MEGAN JOY YOU ARE A JOY TO WATCH AND YOUR OUTSIDE OF THE BOX AND I LOVE THAT ABOUT YOU! Your gorgeous too! Loving them tattoos!
Totally agree with Tina. Why come on this site and bash these kids. It is so out of line.
I love Megan. She is unique and entertaing and beautiful. I hope she enjoys success in the future.
I have never been a huge fan of her, but this along with her first Slezak interview has one me over. It’s so rare to see a woman who seems to want and can take charge of her career in the music industry or outside of it. YAY, MEGS!
I agree completely, chichi. Didn’t love her on the show, but I really think she has a solid head on her shoulders and a strength that will get her far. Go, Megan!
she has a “solid head on her shoulders” – you’ve got to be kidding – she’s a total flake
DO you have the SCRIPT of this Interview?
What is the camera man’s inspiration for this video? Blair Witch Project?
Too bad the AI TPTB are treating this girl like a Barbie doll — she has a lot more depth than that. I wish her all the best in the future — she seems like a great person. And Megan, after the tour is over, have a ceremonial bonfire and burn that damn dress!
I agree. While she looks fantastic in that dress, that is not her. To make her wear it while singing in a concert is downright stupid! Ok, so AI you have to have control over certain things, but come on, atleast let Megan have a thought on what to wear besides that dress. Don’t try to make her a barbie doll, she sure isn’t that.
Poor Megan — I saw her at one of the concerts where she changed up the dress, wore flats, funked the look up a bit and she was mich better and freer on stage and got her best reviews…they should really let her be her
yeah, her god-given true talents are just being held back by evil producers – gag…
I am not saying that Megan is a talented singer, or had any chance at a singing career. Just that she was a lot better without being stuffed into a tight dress and 6 inch heels…sh really seemed happy the night I saw her and did not sound terrible
Hmmmm… By the end of her run on the show, she was driving me crazy, but after seeing this interview where she was being herself. I was much pleased and look forward to hearing more from her. Excellent.
just phone a fax machine when you get desperate to hear more from her – or scrap some rusty nails across a blackboard
Although Kris and The Rocker are my favorite talents this year, she is my sentimental favorite. She has that mama-bear attitude that tells me she will fight hard for what she wants. I hope her efforts are rewarded.
I can only imagine what she wanted to wear. Thank god for the producers, lol.
I had hoped that once she got kicked off Idol, it would be the last I would have to hear about or see this no-talent hack. Alas – there she was again, in the finale singing some hillbilly ditty with Michael Sarver composed by Steve Martin. This girl cannot sing and has not an ounce of musicality to boot. She got lost in the middle of the piece and finished a few bars ahead of everyone. She sounds like that gawd-awful sound you hear in your ear when you’ve telephoned a fax!
Who cares what she wants to wear or how sassy or independent she is!
She
Who cares what she wants to wear or how sassy or independent she is!
She CAN’T SING!!!!!
She’s very pretty, would make a nice model or actress….but singing….she needs more work. But very pretty.
Ok, maybe I’m dumb, but I don’t see a Play button.
You’re not dumb, you’re lucky.
Awww Megan. I love her and really do wish her the best. She’s got this darling quirky voice that the music directors have not capitalized on. I hope for the last couple concerts she throws that stupid dress out the bus window and wears what SHE wants to wear. I knew that outfit was not her. You go, Megan, and keep in touch with your fans!
Wow! That really surprised me.
Both my friend and I said she sounded better on tour and she’s the kind of artist we’d buy an album from…just maybe not take dance lessons off of.
She seems really cool.
Poor Megan, the stylist keep wanting to dress her up like a barbie, which she clearly doesn’t want to be like. No wonder she kept saying she got to wear the slutty clothes.
This interview makes me both sad and angry. Sad that the idols are trained monkeys for 19E and angry that it appears the women are held on a tighter leash. While a number of the male idols wear or sing what they want. Allison has to sing a song she hates (Pink’s) and wear a corset while Megan is strapped to a Barbie doll outfit with heels she can’t walk on and dominatrix gear that she obviously doesn’t feel comfortable in.
I watched Megan perform with her tour approved outfit once and with her non tour approved outfit twice. It was OBVIOUS that she was uncomfortable on stage and did not perform as well as she could have, strapped to the tight dress and stilettos. When she was able to come out with her own version of the outfit, wearing gladiator sandles, she seemed more alert, into the music and into the audience. She seemed happier. But obviously the bosses wanted Megan on this tour for something other than her singing.
Thankfully 19E is going to let this young woman go. Afterwards she can finally do what she wants and become the genuine, albeit, quirky artist she could be. On that day, Megan fans will celebrate.
I always loved Megan! and I can’t wait to see what is in store for her in the future.. she seems like she’s got a good head on her shoulders..and I wish her nothing but the best!
Egad!
I have mad respect for Megan. I love her voice but not so much most of her song choices on the show. I can’t wait to see what she does musically post-tour.
Adam Lambert cannot stop raving about how the Idol producers let him do what he wants and Meghan cannot even wear the clothes that she likes, let alone chose her own song. Is that the price you pay for not finishing in the top two? I think Bjork is a pretty hard act to follow, especially since Bjork comes from another planet (and she’s not “down to earth” in her interviews). I respect Megan and I hope she does well…but she is still young and has some evolving to do.
I always really liked Megan’s quirky voice and vocal style. I’m really looking forward to seeing what she does once “Idol” has set her free.
I’m sad to hear she didn’t like the outfit she wears in the show. The dress was ok… but her shoes were KILLER! (VERY different from her puffy slippers.)
My gosh – she looks 12 in the in this interview video!
I think this is the first interview ever that did this talented girl justice, thanks Michael.
yes, she has been so terribly wronged and misrepresented over these many months when we were forced to listen to her vocal crap like “Rockin’ Robin” whereas she really should have been kicked off the show long before she did her famous flapping and cawing across the stage — that was bloody adorable
these adoring fans are not to be believed ‘oooh she’s so pretty” “ooh she’s so quirky” — ugh! – I gotta get out of this loonie bin –
then gtfo.
no one is asking you to stay or have come in the first place.
LOL, you’re messed up, dude. You claim to be so put off by Megan, yet you come to this message board twice (2 hours apart) and post at least 10 angry messages using at least three different names (your overuse of hyphens betrays you). Nobody’s forcing you to read this column or listen to Megan, I suspect you just like being a fly in other people’s ointment. Maybe it’s time for therapy? Just a suggestion.
It will be interesting to see what Megan does in her music. I was a big fan after “Put Your Music On” and “Black Horse,” but began to see that she was not going to go far on AI. I hope that she is able to orchestrate a successful career and have time for her personal life, too. I’ll definitely check out her first album.
