Confession: I’m one of those latecomers who’s helping True Blood now earn record ratings, so I was sort of surprised when Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) topped EW’s recent “Who’s the hottest new vampire?” poll with 42 percent of the vote. After last night’s episode, however, I totally get it. There was that smirk he flashed when he tricked Sookie into drinking his blood to remove a second silver bullet. The way he casually rested with his arm behind his head like an ’80s centerfold as he admitted that he’d told “a tiny falsehood” (“You big lying A-hole!” “Bill, you’re right, I believe I can sense her emotions.”) Sookie’s revealing dream, of course. (If you think that picture is a spoiler, at least it’s a spoiler that makes you want to watch the episode immediately.) And then, how tall and tasty he looked walking away from Godric and toward Sookie on the roof.

I always thought Eric and Sookie looked and acted better than Bill and Sookie. I cant read the books bc I dont want to know whats next and ruin the show!
the show is so different than that books(And i’ve read them all). Even though the general plot is the same, there is a lot that is different which makes the show exciting to watch. It is fun to see some of the other characters that are not seen much in the book.
Reading the books didn’t spoil the show for me. I watched part of the first season, read all nine books, watched the rest of the first season and I am now watching the second season. Alan Ball has changed the plot enough to keep everyone who has read the books at the edge of their seats.
I have read all the books as well. There is enough difference between both not to spoil either of them
I just want them to keep him the icy Viking that he is. He keeps the balance in that emotion-fest. And I love his relationship with Pam and Lafayette. I don’t want Sookie to make him “soft.”
Maru, trust me when i say one of the best moments in the books is when Eric goes “soft” for a lil while..if i loved his character a lil before i was completely smitten after. But u c Eric will never go wholly soft even if they do end up together, i tink it is more that Sookie would give eric balance instead of him being full on sociopath he could be just deliously twisted. take for instance his love for Godric did not make him soft for caring for his maker..
For me..I think it was the “Is there blood in my hair?” and “Pam’s gonna kill me.” parts in the first several episodes of season 2. And the love has been growing and growing ever since. I <3 Alex!

I have always liked Eric more than Bill, but I have to agree that last night sealed the deal making Eric the hottest new vampire out there.
I was not impressed with last nights episode… I love season two but I felt last night was a let down.. the next one looks like it is going to be really good. and I love eric.
What? Last night’s episode was AMAZING! The acting, the story, the pacing it was ALL perfect. I loved every minute of it.

I have to dissagree. Bill is the more interesting character. He has had everything that he loved taken from him. Now he has found Sookie and love, once again. Then along comes Eric who is using his power to take Sookie away. Bill is the underdog and I hope that he finds a way to take Eric down.
Are you bitter that Bill looks like Sookie’s dad? And what exactly has Bill had taken away from him? He was turned into a vampire, big deal. Eric was dying when he was turned. Bill is not some tragic hero, he’s just sad and boring and not attractive.
I prefer Eric because ..well he is what he is. He can be shady and manipulating but he can also show love and caring. Bill is good as well, but I find more range with Eric’s character. It has more appeal to me, both in the books and in the show.
I think it is that ‘nasty boy’ persona. He is MUCH hotter than Bill who just simply spends his time chasing Sookie around…

It’s complicated. I’m reading the books now and I’m on the 6th one…they’re relationship is alot more intriguing than Bill and Sookie’s that’s for sure.
When he shed his one tear for his maker Godric a few episodes ago. I was like “He does have emotions!!” The relationship with Godric completed his charecter so well.. And he has a devious yet sweet smile. And I am sorry, but Alexander Skarsgård and Anna Paquin have more chemistry then Bill and Sookie any day!! I don’t care who’s “engaged” in real life! Go Eric!

The writing this season has been INCREDIBLE! When Sookie and Eric were escaping the church and he says “Don’t use words you don’t understand” when she spoke of Godrich and “Don’t use words I don’t understand” when she told him he had love for Godrich. AWESOME!!!

I just thought I would hyperventilate. eric is insanely outstanding not only in looks, but his portrayal with godrich was magical..Do not remember ever watching 2 episodes of anything and being reduced to tears. Also Gotta love the paint ball in between the eyes.

I am one who has never been all that turned off over Eric’s opportunitistic side in the books. He is looking out for not only himself, but the vampires (and Sookie) in his territory.

Absolutely. Also, sickly enough, when he was standing in front of Lafayette absolutely drenched in blood asking, “Do I have blood in my hair?” That scene was a really good example of what “True Blood” does well–follows a horrifically violent moment with just the right cut of absurd humor.
Right on! Humor and violent moments are well balanced. I loved Eric the 1st moment I saw him. I was waiting for the show writers to develop his character a tad bit more. I am def interested in his and Sookie’s storyline. Its going to be intense.

That first encounter at Fangtasia actually scared me quite a bit. I hadn’t read the books then yet. But it didn’t prevent me from thinking that he was hot already then! In retrospect I love the scene where he throws the hand of the guy he killed in the dungeon towards Lafayette and seems to be choking blood. It’s so gross that it’s fascinating!
I love when he said that too and followed with “Pam is gonna kill me for getting blood in my highlights.” HA!!

Probably when he was sitting in Bill’s bath tub last season, waiting for Bill to come home so he could “request” Sookie’s help with some trouble at the bar. Last night was good too. That smirk he gives when Sookie starts sucking out the 2nd piece of silver was too hot.

I think Eric became awesomer the second Alexander Skarsgård – who was the coolest mofo in Generation Kill – there’s a reason they called him the Iceman! – was cast in the role. If none of you Eric fans have seen it, I strongly suggest you check it out immediately. Generation Kill. From the guys who brought you The Wire. Alex/Eric is basically the front-and-center main guy. You’ll love it.

Generation Kill is awesome! I don’t even like war shows as a general rule. But he is amazing and that show was really good.
Yes. GK is amazing. My husband said it is just how men act when they are together in a group. Each one trying to out gross the other. Some of the most off-color but absolutely hilarious dialogue too. Besides that, it was gripping story. Loved it!
Gen. Kill was a great series but definitely testosterone-laden.It shows how men socializing in a way that I, as a woman, had a hard time understanding. But there is much humor and pathos. It was worth sticking with to the end.

Erik is hooter than Bill, but Bill is of course what every girl would want in a boyfriend; sweet, caring, truthful, good in the sack…but returning to Erik, yes he is hotter and I knew that back in season 1 with the long hair, sitting on that throne and being TOTALLY interested in Sookie,to the point of annoying Bill all the time.

No he is not. Even if they dont decide to follow the books closely at all. There are things being dropped about Bill not being quite the best Bill ever. Pay attention to the first season, very close attention to several conversations he has with the other vampires and one particular one towards the end of season One with Eric.

I just starting to reading the books. Finished book 1 and on to Book 2. As far as the show, Bill was hot in S1 but S2 Eric has the upper hand. I can’t decide which one. I love the southern gentleman charm of bill and the commitment but the intrigue of Eric is powerful as well. He’s mysterious and he has a passionate side but he is not going to show it to everyone.
Bill is a big fat liar in the books (the show I’m waiting on) and for some of us “sweet” isn’t a virtue.

Bill truthful? Let’s see – he lied about murdering Sookie’s uncle, he lied about murdering and turning Jessica, and he never told Sookie until this episode that her attraction to him might be completely based on her having taken HIS blood when she was beaten by the Ratrays. And that’s only if they don’t follow the books – that’s just from the tv show. He only tells the truth to her when he has to.
OMG- you are sooo right. I thought they were totally making boring Bill to be an angel on the show- which so completely stunk. But he has lied to Sookie many many times! Eric is oppotunistic but he is hot, loyal and as the last 2 shows prove willing to die for the ones he loves. Plus did everyone forget about the highly disturbing flashback seen of Bill and Lorena killing a girl and then doing the nasty right next to her as she slowly bled- real sweet southern gentleman. Atleast Eric doesn’t pretend to be something he’s not.

Sorry but I definitely do not agree that Bill is what every woman wants. Every woman I know really wants a hot bad boy who makes incredible love, and Eric fills that wish. Alexander Skarsgard plays the role to perfection.

Well.. first of all I have to say that I love Bill..i mean eric is hot in his bad boy blond feel..but Bill is so sexy and smooth. all one has to do is look at him in his first entrance at merlotte’s to see that! now although i want sookie/bill be together i do want sookie to hook up with eric.. if for nothing else to teach him about the love he says he knows nothing about..both actors are great.. but Bill is the sweet one..love both of them..i didnt enjoy last night’s show as much as i thought i would..didnt like Godric’s demise..he just wasnt in there near long enough.. what a super cool actor..maryanne, eggs..and her whole clan need to disappear asap..dont like this storyline at all…love me some lafayatte and jason

Well, “Dead to the World” is where I (and Sookie) fell for Eric (book four or five of the series). Bill isn’t quite as good a guy as you want him to be and Eric isn’t quite as bad.
I’m very glad they’ve “sped up” the Sookie/Eric connection present in the books. I agree, Bill … not truthful from the get-go. After watching last night’s episodes though, and having read ALL the books thusfar, it leads me to wonder what is real for Sookie? When she first drank Bill’s blood, then became attracted to him, was that real or just the blood bond? Now, same with Eric? How will she know what is real and what is blood bond? OTOH, she is immune to being “glamoured” and the blood doesn’t seem to effect her as it does others, so perhaps the BB is more of just a connection for her, but the feelings are real??? Pondering on this for now…

Good question. After the show ended I sat wondering how come Sookie didn’t question her sexual attraction to Bill once she learned drinking his blood would make her sexually attracted to him.
I fell for Eric in “Club Dead” when he and Sookie are in bed together at the Mississippi vampire nest and later when he saves her from the werewolves…and then obviously the shower scene in “Dead to the World.” I feel bad for Bill, but how can she ever trust him when everything was based on a lie.
If the show follows the books even a little than you’ll find out Bill and Sookie are even more based on a lie than you would ever think. Bill turns out to be the biggest liar of all…

already love eric from the books since i read it years ago, specifically the last few chapters of the 2nd book “Living Dead in Dallas”, i’ve been visualizing him everytime i read the book and Alex exceeded my imaginations, he’s perfect for the role and he made me love eric more the first time i saw him sitting in the middle of Fangtasia! THE CHARACTER AND THE ACTOR ARE BOTH HOT!!
The very first episode that Eric graced the screen 1×04. He just gets better and better with every episode and now that I’m reading the books, I love him even more. ASkars is amazingly gorgeous and he and Anna Paquin have fantasic chemistry. Eric was so wonderful this episode from when he was being his devious self to dream!Eric (who was a lot like book!Eric) to the gut-wrenching scene with Godric. Absolutley love him.

That’s what I was about to say! My Eric moment that I fell for him is from Season 1 when he is taking a bath tub in Bill’s house and listening to Swedish music. He looks so nonchalant and relaxed like there is nothing wrong with being in another man’s house and taking a random bath with candles. Eric cracks me up!!
My favorite Eric scene thus far though would have to be this past episode”I Will Rise Up.” When Sookie calls Eric an a-hole & he says ” I do believe I can feel her emotions.” I think I might’ve rewound that scene a few times cause it is so funny. For drama, the Eric/ Godric scene was so emotional and touching. Alexander Skarsgard’s best performance on the show to date.
The person up there who said they were team Bill because he is sweet, caring, truthful..blah blah blah, clearly hasn’t read the books. Those are all of Eric’s qualities from day one. Bill is a liar. He is brutal and he treats Sookie like a little doll he can dress up and play with.
Team Eric all the way…from the books clearly. The first time I saw AS in the role, I knew it was perfect…so that would be Season 1 Episode 4.
