Miley Cyrus pole dancing at the Teen Choice Awards: Rather unfortunate, yes?

In what could be perceived as an attempt to be edgy or an homage to ice cream distributors (they probably don’t get enough credit), Hannah Read the full post.

How this is deemed appropriate by the “Kids Choice Awards” or Miley’s parents is beyond me. I’m no prude, but she’s frickin 16 years old!

    • ashleigh

nuh shes not 16 fricken years old!

  • jayinTx

The real problem is all the dancing. What does that have to do with music? Play your song, sing your song, quit dancing around.

  • The only one who watched the video…

Um… when did she actually pole dance? It looks to me as if the pole was there because she was being PUSHED on a MOVING cart… she need something to hold onto for STABILITY.

She hardly moved at all while she was holding the pole and certainly didn’t dance like a stripper.

Grow up, people. Stop trying to attack this girl for something she obviously didn’t do.

    • Jen Blake

Miley did go down on that pole, Fox only aired from her shoulders up. She straddled it and all those teens there got and eye full.

MOST of you people that seem to have a problem with Miley during this performance should be ashamed of yourselves! YOU’RE the one’s that ARE NOT thinking! She was not “Pole dancing” GOD! GIVE IT A BREAK ALREADY! Prudes! You act like this so called pole dancing is the worst thing a person can do! If you look again at the video, she is BEING PUSHED on a cart. Have you ever been pushed on somthing with wheels while it’s moving? Yeah, it’s sort of hard to keep you’re balance and from falling over when there is NOTHING to hold onto? And WHO CARES about short shorts? Again, people are acting like it’s pornographic for Petes sake. Miley is FINE! And she has NOTHING to prove or be a role model to fans. That IS NOT her job.

      • sadiebaby

        JeffVell:

Actually, Miley is a role model whether she wants to be or not. Once one puts herself into the spot light, she must accept everything that comes with it. That inclues the admiration of young fans (particularly if you are associated with Disney). She would not be who she is without that admiration. She certainly knew what she was in for. She already had Britney and Christina to learn from. You can’t have it both ways. I don’t think she actually did anything wrong during this performance. I just disagree with your comment that being a role model is not her job. It very much IS her job.

    • Em

Well “the only one who watched the video” Um well she shouldn’t be on the icecream truck then. That way she wouldn’t need that pole so it’s her fault she should have stopped that and said that the pole was to much. I mean she could have done it without the pole and icecream truck. I don’t remember her song having anything to do with icecream! So it is her fault! She should have stopped it! And she has the power to.

  • Katie

Oh Lord, someone needs to sit Miley down with a stylist and/or image consultant. You can look cute or edgy without showing that much skin or wearing so much makeup/ self tanner.

Also, my cousin is in that target Disney age range (8 years old), and she has completely abandoned Miley and Hannah Montana. Now it’s all about Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato…both of whom dress cute and fashionable without looking inappropriate.

    • JeffVell

Please! Who cares if you’re 8 year old, (haha!) cousin has “abandoned” Miley and Hannah Montana!?! Good! Who cares!?! What does an average 8 year old know anyway? Yeah, NOTHING!

      • EwwItsMiley

Wow! Why are you going after an 8 year old, Jeff?

        Katie–
Tell your cousin that my sister and I are proud of her for being smart. :)

      • yokochick

She knows enough to see trouble when its there

  • dj

she needs to stay an actress cause she sure cant sing, like father like daughter

    • callie

she’s not exactly the world’s greatest actor, either.

      • ABRIL CRUZ

        YEAH SHE IS

  • liz

I cannot believe the teen choice awards would allow this. There are very young girls watching this show shame on them. Shame on her parents also how can they let their teenage daughter dance on a stripper pole with her short shorts. I thought Miley Cyrus had a better head on her shoulders.

    • smilie12

What should the teen choice awards not allow? A ride on a ice cream cart or allow her to sing. I think the ladder causes more extensive acute injury. What should she be grabbing to hold herself balanced on the ice cream cart? I bet teens have seen far more sexy dancing than this.

    • Em

Please if you raddled her head all you would hear was a hollow sound and a lot of movement because her brain is so small! That’s why she became an actress and singer (Bad in both categories might I add)because she can’t think and become a regular kid that can get good grades without bribing.

  • Sheila

I am a 57 grandmother of four children ranging from 13 to 3. The three youngest love Mylie. She is a roll model to all of the children this age who watch her on Disney. She should consider her choices more carefully. There wasn’t much of a pole dance but enough to give these children the idea. The shorts were “way too short”! Her bra was showing!Did she have on a vest or what? I didn’t like it at all! My two daughters were more horrified then I! I don’t think my grandchildren will be watchhing Mylie any longer!

  • Ben

Nails on a chalkboard. At least she’s showing her trashy roots. Can’t a trailer hit her as she’s doing The Climb?

  • alexandra

with all the outrage over this, i thought she was actually going to be pole dancing. looked more like it was there for her to hold onto while they wheeled her around. people are making a big deal out of nothing. it’s like there’s nothing else for people to talk about. no wonder other countries think we’re a bunch of imbeciles – people getting up in arms over a silly girl. sheesh. hold back on the pitchforks, tar, and feather, people. good lord.

    • Corinne

      alexandra,
Other countries’ citizens don’t think Americans are “a bunch of imbeciles” they just want to criticize us for anything they can because they’re envious of the U.S.
These foreigners are like some students at a middle-class school constantly putting down what’s occurring at the wealthy high school.

  • AllyQ

im personally dont a big fan of miss miley. but the poor girl isnt pole dancing. shes clearly holding on for support. she was not swinging on it or doing backflips. but the clothnig choice shouldve been more appropriate for a TEEN choice event

  • Jill

Okay first of all that WAS NOT POLE DANCING. u guys are stupid if u think thats considered pole dancing. she was just holding on 2 it so she wouldn’t fall off! she just went down then back up ONCE! NOT A big deal. SHES 16! she can wear shorts if she wants. all teenage girls do! stop bashing her she is amazing and WAY RICHER THEN ALL U DUMBASS PEOPLE SAYInG SHIt ABOut HER!

    • Cody

      The Truth come out $ $ $ $ $ $ $ $ makes it all OK – fine – Jill – would you let her – if she was your kid – out into public like that – doing that in the name of family friendly entertainment – Come On – Would you allow your kid to do this—— what’s your answer………… . . . . . . . . . . waiting . . . . . . . .

  • mememoi

I can’t believe people are making excuses for dancing on a pole….it’s pretty clear what’s happening there! LOL.

Look, people are buying into this stuff, or else it wouldn’t be produced. We just need to be clearer with our kids. Do we disapprove of skankery? Most children’s TV would indicate that we don’t. We can’t complain about this and then outwardly deride wholesomer family fare like the Jonas Brothers (which just implies to kids that if you try to act decently, not skankily, you’ll be mocked mercilessly, so why bother).

Why don’t we just make it clear that most parents obviously want their kids to be skanky. Or else we wouldn’t support people who sell that kind of image with gobs and gobs of dollars and eyeballs on their shows.

Parents need to pick one message and stick with it.

P.S. I don’t blame Miley…she’s a kid, and can’t be expected to make judgement calls in these things. And she’s obviously just being primed to sink to the level of the next step in her successful career – MTV, blech.

    • coco

thats a really good point about the jonas brothers. i never understood why people tear in to them so much about wanting to stay virgins till marraige.

  • mememoi

And for those who say she didn’t pole dance, did you miss out on this:

    http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_2njq2Guqp4c/SoBnpPkgzvI/AAAAAAAA6IU/FqB0JXLPnZs/s1600-h/mc3.jpg

You think we’re making this up?

  • Raven_Moon

More sexualization of youth. Disturbing. When you are the biggest star on the Disney Channel & a role model to many young girls, maybe you could try not to act like a stripper. The dancing wasn’t as bad as I worried it would be from the title, but the implication was definitely there. I, personally, can’t stand the girl, but my little cousins adore her & I really don’t want them to see this.
