Thousands of aspiring actor/model/dancers lined the streets of downtown Manhattan today in the hopes of following in the footsteps of Sarah Jessica Parker and co. Perhaps quite literally, if a scene so requires. Shiny new extras are needed for the sequel to the hugely successful big-screen adaptation of the HBO series Sex and the City, which is set to begin shooting in late summer or early fall (early anticipation sets the movie with a May 2010 release). The open casting call (which welcomed both SAG and non-SAG members) began at 10 a.m., but some of Carrie Bradshaw’s biggest fans (some of whom traveled from as far away as Florida) showed up as early as 5 a.m. These were certainly not auditions — hopefuls were ushered in and out within roughly ten minutes, only having their picture taken for consideration. The agency holding the casting boasted they were looking forĀ “Fashion Models, Celebrity types, Upscale socialites, Urban Club goers, Gays and Lesbians, International types (Middle Eastern, Arabic, Asian, European, British), Professional Soccer Players.” Perhaps the girls attend a soccer game this time around? Do we smell a David Beckham cameo? Gooooaaaaaal!
While the crowd was overwhelmingly of the young, Manhattan-dwelling, female fashionista set (one gal showed up in a tutu Cynthia Rowley dress. Checkmate, other would-be extras!) a few older fans, tattooed gents, and even some kids found their way into the mix. The general consensus among the crowd was they wanted to be in a party scene, and they’d most like to share screen time with Kim Cattrall and SJP. While it’s of no surprise fans jumped at the chance to be a part of the SATC legacy, what’s most surprising is their uncompromising devotion. As a rabid fan of the TV series myself, I must admit I was ever-so-slightly underwhelmed by the movie, even more so at the prospect of this sequel. Where else could the story go? A few people I spoke to today hoped for a Carrie-Big baby, others wanted Samantha to settle down, but what do you think, PopWatchers? What are you hoping for from the Sex and the City sequel? Would you too want to be part of the undoubtedly fabulous background? Or have you sipped your last cosmo?

Unlike you, I LOVED the movie. However, I don’t know where they can go from here. Carrie and Big can only have a baby….they’ve already broken up and reconciled too often. Ditto for Miranda and Steve. I suppose Charlotte could divorce again despite her wish for long-lasting happiness, but I wouldn’t buy that since she is in such a devoted relationship. As for Samantha, well anything goes, as always. I loved the first but agree the second just isn’t necessary…..unless they do a prequel…..ehhhhh?
Loved the series and loved the movie. I don’t care what they do here, just give me more!
I heard something about Big losing his money…could be interesting to see him be anything but the successful stock broker! I would love a Carrie-Big baby though
No babies, please. Carrie is such an interesting, sometimes complex, and independent character. Don’t make her boring and average by making her a parent.
I am a mother…24 yrs old have an 11mth old and i dont find myself a bit boring…to hear that said is repulsive. Being a mother does not make you boring one bit you just have a different kind of excitement in your life and any true adult can understand that!
OMG!!!!love love love!!!wish I was there to audtion for SEX IN THE CITY…what a dreamm!! you girls are all fab!!! I am scottish version of all girls mixed into one!!!ups downs ins outs black white please let the scottish try for part…love you all Karenxxx
no, no more babies — esp since they barely touched Charlotte’s pregnancy in the first movie and this was the one BIG thing in her life, but they almost overlooked it simply to give more story time to Carrie (you can tell whose name is above the title) — would like to see Samantha get back with Smith.
I didn’t like the movie at all. I love the series and will watch it again and again because it had wit and charm and intelligence, none of which appeared in the film. I was so disappointed. I feel allegiance to these characters, and I’m glad the film did so well in order that studios might finally grasp that women see movies, too, but I don’t think I can sit through another one. Not without a stellar script that re-installs the spark that made the show so great…. and I don’t have much hope for that.
Loved, loved, loved the series. I could probably quote you every line from every episode. 10 years later, though? I think it’s time to let the characters rest.
