I look at this trailer and the only person I’m interested in is Robert Knepper’s carnie colony colonel. No one else — Sylar, Nathan and Peter Petrelli, Claire and Noah Bennet, Hiro and Ando — moves the needle in the slightest.
How did we come to this, a rampant apathy? Are you still invested in Heroes? Does its return fill you with hope that the producers have learned from their past mistakes, or does it have you scanning the listings to see what else will be on Monday nights?

Ok, so “Heroes” screwed the pooch with the mega-disappointing season 1 finale has been consistently, mind-numbingly bad since.
However, I’m not sure if I can say that I’ve stopped caring. It would be silly for me to say that, given that I’ve say through every episode from Seasons 2 or 3. I have a hard time “dumping” TV shows, but if I didn’t care, I’d like to think I would’ve switched off a while ago.
I think I still watch because I think the concept is very cool (kind of a live-action X-Men told in a comic book style!), despite the fact that I not-so-secretly know it won’t be as good as it was in the first half of season 1.
For me, I’d liken watching “Heroes” to rooting for your favorite sports team when they’re bad – it’s bad, but you still cares…and it hurts a little bit that you care.
(P.S. This show is 30% better if you watch it as a comedy.)
Brilliant post – sums up my feelings on the show perfectly.
me too… and i know a thing or two about caring for bad sports teams… like the comment about it being better viewed as a comedy…
haha kool. first one 2 comment. well this show has been boring 4 a while but it looks a little bit more interesting with the whole carnival storyline. i still havent given up on heroes n i hope this season is the comeback.
nobody cares if you were first (which you werent). Next time, dont bother even typing that thx.
Don’t you hate that? How empty must that guy’s be, that he’s got to brag about stumbling across this article first? Jayzez.

I’m surprised I could muster the effort to click on this link.
me too. *evil cackle* such hate guys. like the people who like it to the people who hate it “why can’t u get the message? stop watching and leave the rest of us in peace instead of coming back to diss it and making us miserable. or is that your plan?
I totally agree. I keep watching because I have invested so much time with it. I keep thinking that it will get better and it just never does. I am not sure if I can watch another season if it is as bad as previous ones.
The promise of Heroes has always been greater than the reality of Heroes. I haven’t stopped watching because the show still has some great single episodes – but story arcs and particularly story climaxes are almost consistently a let down. There’s always so much buildup that the viewer is just expecting this blowout mega high watt conclusion – and they always seem to get done on the cheap, creating a huge let down.
Well said!
I think it’s often the problem with TV shows, when the writers aren’t imaginative enough to make a finale feel big without the benefit of the big explosions and fight choreography that a movie would have. There are ways to do that but I’m not sure Heroes have nailed it yet.
I watch Heroes cause I actually like the characters. The story has waxed and waned as far as I’m concerned. Parts of it I really liked, some of it was blah. I’ve never hated the show though and I continue to watch it for the characters.
Well said jenjen well said, i totally agree..although i never really ‘didn’t like’ any part of heroes….
i mean i’ll admit maybe some parts weren’t as ‘great’ as they could have been but..i still liked it all..like season 3’s concept was good–to me anyway–its possible they didn’t really do it as effectively as they could have…but that’s just my opinion
I actually liked the preview. It got me excited for the new season. I thought “Heroes” got back on track toward the end of last season, so I am eager to see new episodes.
I guess I’m in the minority, but I still really like “Heroes.” It frustrates me, sometimes, but I think it still has potential. (except for the whole Sylar is Nathan thing. I really don’t like that one.)
I`ve long switched to CBC`s Monday night line up, then was watching Heroes online when I got around to it… The Big Bang Theory blows Heroes out of the water!
I still hold out hope that Heroes can get better again though.
i believe you mean CBS…unless you watch it on CBC..but..anyway
i will agree that the comedies on CBS’s monday night line up ARE hilarious, the big bang theory and two and a half men especially…but i would never watch those over heroes…if anything i would tape those…if i can..
I like Heroes, but I can’t keep up with all the plot lines. They sort of melt into one convoluted mess. Maybe one day I’ll watch the DVDs and find them revelatory, but for now, it’s all just a bit confusing.
I bailed on Heroes after the abismal Season 1 finale (especially in comparison wih Lost’s Season 3 finale two days later). My mother still enjoys the show and when I get a, “you should have kept watching it” from her, I check and see it’s still dribble, and then account that she’s 55 to the reason she likes it, it’s simple enough for the old folks.
you can’t spell so don’t comment on awesome shows. season 1 finale was awesome.
I pretty much forgot what happened in the in season finale. Not a good sign. I’ve been over this show for awhile and the preview did nothing to gain back my interest. Sorry Heroes. But in my mind, you’re cancelled.
I still don’t know why I continue to watch Heroes. I guess I still see hope that the show will get back to season one roots.
Darth Maul!!!!!!
Oh look, EW is bashing Heroes again. What a surprise.
Yes, Heroes is not as good as it once was, but to me it’s still definitely worth watching, and this trailer looks promising. Sylar and Noah are still the best characters, Ali Larter is actually not annoying, Robert Knepper is creepy and cool, and best of all, not a Mohinder in sight. So yes, I do care, and you know what? It’s not wrong.
Season 1 was fun watching the characters figure out their special powers and all come together to fight for a common cause. Seems like the creators/writers didn’t really think it would go past a first season and slapped together ideas weekly ever since. I stopped watching towards the end of Season 2 when characters stopped being themselves, i.e. “this week I’m evil”, “this week I’m good”, “this week I’ll partner with my sworn enemy”…it became ridiculous.
I gave up last season after hate watching it since the season 1 finale. Tuned in for the season finale and… yeah, not upset that I gave it up.
I agree with Bob. This magazine loves to hate on Heroes, but honestly, this preview looks intriguing. I will definitely be watching.
Gave up on Heroes halfway through last season and have no regrets.
Robert Knepper’s presence alone is enough to get me excited about Heroes season 4. Add in the carny storyline and I’m all in.
i totally agree girl, he was an awesome villian in Prison Break, awesome in the Hitman movie…and especially awesome as the villian in Transporter 3
You never can tell from previews. Vol 2 looked epic and ended up deadly dull, Vol 3 promised to be a return to form but turned out to be a return to childish writing. I actually liked Vol 4, but I am getting awfully tired of everyone trying to be normal folks and claiming they are done with their powers. It’s like a broken record at this point.
I blame part of season 2 being bad on the writers strike. I thought season 3 started to get better towards the end though.
I dropped Heroes about halfway through Season 2, and I haven’t regretted it for a second. Good riddance, I say.
To answer the question in your title: Season 2, Episode 1.
My interest in heroes went downhill at the start of Season 2 … haven’t watched the last season at all
i still like it.
I really enjoyed season 1. I didn’t enjoy season 2 all that much, but I believed TPTB when they said that they had learned from their mistakes and the third volume would be a lot better.
It wasn’t.
In fact, I found it to be really bad, with inconsistent characters (I’m agreeing with Jim in L.V. regarding the “i.e. “this week I’m evil”, “this week I’m good”, “this week I’ll partner with my sworn enemy””), cliched writing, and tons of silly mistakes. I finally gave up with the eclipse stuff. (I’m willing to suspend disbelief regarding superpowers, but when they change scientific rules regarding an eclipse, apparently that is my breaking point.)
I debated about watching the fourth volume, and still had my TiVo record it, but I ended up deleting the episodes unwatched because I just didn’t care anymore.
I can’t think of anything at this point that would bring me back.
you people who complain about the show stop complaining, the writers are brilliant and have come up with a great concept, i for one am always gripped and want to wacth the next episode straight away, they have come up with a great storyline that is supposed to span over at least 5 season which is why things dont always make sense straight away but do later, i agree that the season 1 finale was a bit poor but the only way they cud have made it better was to have a fight and kill sylar, but then who would want heroes without sylar?! my only criticism of the show is that i want peter to have all his powers back because he was a huge character with amazing power but now he doesnt have much at all. i think the new season is going to be good and if u are only gonna moan about how it doesnt live up to ur standards then stop watching it because u will only find faults with it as it will prob never live up to wat u want it to be.
I completely agree with you on this one Parker. I personally love the show and if these people hate it so much what are they doing looking it up????
I totally agree about Peter! I loved it when he had all his powers, because it set it up as though he would be the only one who could stop Sylar. I think that’s one reason the season 1 finale ended up being so disappointing, because it felt like we were building to a clash between them, only to have it fall flat. One of my all time favorite episodes was when Hiro and Ando traveled to the post-Peter exploding future world, which built to the Peter-Sylar battle of the titans before Hiro and Ando went back. I’m hopeful now because it looked like at the end of last season Peter did get his powers back (by taking on all of Sylar’s) so hopefully that dynamic will be back next season.
Actually I totally disagree. Having Peter have EVERY power he saw was way too confusing for us as viewers, and for the writers. There were way too many times he could have used some power that he didn’t. Having this “touch-n-take” thing makes more sense, and it’s easier for all of us to keep track of.
I don’t know. I was ready to give up on Heroes, but then I saw this trailer. Finally they seem to be trying a genuinely new storyline rather than just tweaking the same one over and over, and all this talk about the Carnie guy’s brother Joseph and focus on Sylar/Nathan’s struggle suggests that the story is going to be grounded in character, focussed on the intimate rather than abstract, hard to contemplate apocalyptic scenarios. Incredibly, I feel kind of good about it. Now let’s just hope they can weather the departure of Bryan Fuller.
Free Yourself.
Shoot your television
hearing the heroes haters complain gets so tiring!!! They say how much the show sucks and have seen every episode…Just enjoy it!! It is a dope tv show!
