'Lost' crew tantalizes Comic-Con with Season 6 teases -- and brings Charlie back from the dead!

Josh-Holloway_dl

Lost exec producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelofheld court with roughly 6,500 fans for their last-ever Comic-Con thismorning (sniff, sniff) — and brought with them a few VIP guests: JorgeGarcia, Michael Emerson, Nestor Carbonell, and Josh Holloway. (Theyeven brought someone back from the dead, namely Charlie — a.k.a., DominicMonaghan — who made a surprise cameo at the very end.) Among the teasesthey gave for the sixth and final season of the show:

*The producers suggested that the timeline may havebeen changed by Juliet banging on the H-bomb in the season finale. Theyillustrated the possibility by showing spoof commercials of Hurleyendorsing Mr. Cluck’s and America’s Most Wanted hunting for a stillat-large Kate. Both commercials seemed to take place in a continuitywhere Oceanic 815 did not crash. Were these legit teases—or just jokes?Lindelof wouldn’t comment, but acknowledged that the show would beunwise to leave fans feeling cheated with a storyline that intimated thepast five seasons never happened.

*Juliet and Faraday will appear in Season 6.

*Viewers will get significant Richard Alpert backstory in Season 6. It may or may not be tied to Black Rock.

*The Dharma Initiative mythology won’t be asemphasized as much as it was in Season 5; it might not get muchattention at all. Fear not, you will get your Dharma fix through aseries of web videos called “Mysteries of the Universe: The DharmaInitiative.”

*The producers promised a season that will tonallyresemble Season 1: much jungle adventure, emotional resonance, and asense of discovery. When asked if Season 6 would offer flashbacks tocharacters' pasts, Cuse said that Season 6 would take a differentapproach to flashbacks, but did not elaborate.

*In response to a fan question, the producers saidthat the mysterious Jacob has never assumed the form of anyone else, such as Claire.

*Funny recurring gag: In attempt to prove that theyhaven't been writing the series on the fly, the producers locked thefinal page of the series finale script in a box, and said that the boxwould be opened on Jimmy Kimmel Live! the night that the series finaleairs. When Josh Holloway came on stage, he tasered Lindelof, and forcedCuse to open the box. Michael Emerson did a dramatic reading of thepage, which turned out to be… a scene from Heroes. Darnit! —Additional reporting by Dan Snierson

A scenario where Oceanic 815 does not crash and a lot of jungle adventure seems to contradict each other. Can’t wait to see what they have in store!

  • Corvus

Yeah, I’m leaning towards them being just jokes.

Is it January yet? I need my Lost!

Still no news about Desmond. I’m getting a little ticked off with Carlton and Cuse’s silence on this subject. They’re willing to tell us that we will see Juliet, Faraday, and Charlie again, but absolutely nothing on Desmond. I’m not a happy LOST fan right now.

    JULIET YEAHHHHHHH!

Really? No more Dharma mythology? I want to know who the Degroots and Hanso are and how they even knew the island existed to do their experiments on. I’d like to know how the whole Dharma thing began and what they were really up to on the island. “Research” doesn’t cut it.

The Hurley-as-the-CEO of Mr. Cluck’s is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlhkqAwEgvQ (notice the people standing behind him at the beginning…no doubt they are made to look like Locke (or maybe Dave?) on the left and Walt/Michael on the right)

I have to say, while I appreciated the plot/story telling in season 5, I didn’t care all that much for the season overall. I think for me, it was that (except for Sawyer/Juliet), I felt less connected to the characters.
Thus, this… “The producers promised a season that will tonally resemble Season 1: much jungle adventure, emotional resonance, and a sense of discovery.” made me really excited. I was so involved with the characters and connected to them in the first season, and I feel a lot of that was lost in later seasons. A promise to go back to that makes me really look forward to the last season!

Video of the Lost panel can be watched in HD at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruNjVeEBA_I
I apologize, but I cut out the special videos per ABC’s request. Two of the commercials are also on YouTube though and you can get to them through annotations 30secs in to the above video.

I’m just glad they aren’t doing another “time travel season,” another “dharma initiative season,” another “flashforward season,” etc. because I have faith that they will try to keep us hooked with surprising twists even while answering the shows biggest mysteries. Character-centrics and surprising jungle adventures sounds like a BLAST after the otherworldly craziness they have exposed us to from seasons 4 and 5.

I absolutely agree. That’s how I feel too.

Where can I find the Lost theme song winner? I keep reading about it but can’t find it!

I also wish we’d hear more about Desmond – I was ticked that TPTB just shut him out of most of last season, never mind that he’s supposed to be “special” and that time travel was a big part of the season. Now it seems they just want to write off his character without much of a sendoff. Though considering how carelessly they got rid of other characters like Faraday, I guess I’m not really surprised at this point.

  • Tim

Mary, I’m just glad TPTB didn’t worry about whether or not you would be satisfied when they were writing the story. You’re nothing but a big old whiner, STFU!

  • Amanda

Did they finally clear up the fact that Richard Alpert DOES NOT WEAR EYELINER!?

  • Gretta

Try this site, it worked for me:
    http://tinyurl.com/mhlh75
It asks you to do a little survey but then it takes you right to the show! Enjoy :)

Wow how about proof reading your article.

  • Britt

i really miss lost and charlie! He was my fav character and then he had to die.
