Every year I wake up on Emmy nominations morning like a little kid on Christmas, but wind up feeling like all I got were boxes upon boxes of holiday-themed socks. I know, I know, with this year's expansion to six nominees per category (and seven in the Best Drama and Comedy Series divisions), we certainly had some delightful surprise packages under the tree. (Check out the full list of 2009 Emmy nominees here.) I know a lot of you (and certainly my colleague Ken Tucker!) are squealing with excitement over Jim Parsons' recognition in the Best Actor in a Comedy Series race for The Big Bang Theory, and I was excited to see Jane Krakowski and Rose Byrne pick up respective Supporting Actress nods in the Comedy and Drama races for 30 Rock and Damages. And of course the incomparable Vanessa L. Williams managed a nomination for Ugly Betty (chanting does pay off).
But on the glass-half-empty tip, how come the woman who plays Wilhelmina Slater is the sole Betty acting nod? (Really, Emmy, you want to convince me Two and a Half Men's Jon Cryer's performance is more award worthy than Michael Urie's? Reeeeally?) And with seven individual shows nominated for Best Drama Series, how come there was no room (AGAIN) for Battlestar Galactica, nor a single acting honoree from the groundbreaking sci-fi series. What. The. Frak? Do Emmy voters somehow not manage to get SciFi (SyFy?) on their cable lineups? I just hope that some day, when the aliens finally land on this planet, they don't decide it's not worth saving based on Mary McDonnell's lack of Emmy recognition for her role as BSG's President Laura Roslin. And speaking of the Lead Actress in a Drama division: Considering that Law & Order: SVU was a honey-baked mess this season, and that Brothers & Sisters matron Nora Walker trudged through the same dinner-party drama every episode, I question the inclusion of Mariska Hargitay and Sally Field over Medium's awesome Patricia Arquette. (And her on-screen spouse, Jake Weber, lost out to William Hurt, the surprisngly unexciting link on this season of Damages? Hard to say. Impossibly, in fact.) And finally, while it's nice to see Michael Emerson grab a nomination for Lost, how come other MVPs of the ensemble cast — in particular Josh Holloway and Elizabeth Mitchell — are empty-handed today? (Aside from their sizzling-hot chemistry, I mean.) Can anyone do a little time-travel back to 8:40 a.m. ET and add their names to the ballots?
Okay, PopWatchers. I need to go numb my pain with a high-calorie treat, so I turn it over to you: Which Emmy snubs are stinging you the hardest this morning? And are there any nominations that are acting as a soothing salve to heal your Emmy wounds? Holla back in the comments section below!

no nominations for friday night lights
at least kyle chandler and connie britton deserve nominations.
Very very happy for Simon Baker and Parsons!! Outraged that Big Bang Theory didn’t get recognized in Best Comedy or Best Writing!! Would have liked to see True Blood recognized as well as Scrubs. A case could also be made for Big Bang’s Wolowitz in the supporting actor category.
honestly, nothing for desperate housewives? wow
I was thrilled to see Jemaine Clement and “Flight of the Conchords” up for Best Actor and Best Comedy series, respectively (even if season 1 was funnier than season 2).
As thrilled as I was for “FOTC”, I’m even more disappointed to see no love for “Friday Night Lights” and “The Shield”, which I thought was the best drama last year. Disappointed, but not surprised.
No Friday Night Lights??!
The Emmy’s are officially irrelevant.
SVU’s writing had it’s hit or misses this year, but the lead actors both deserved noms. Chris is snubbed far too often, and Mariska is a phenomenal actress. I bet she was nominated for PTSD. But I really do believe that Meloni and Hargitay both should be nominated. Well, should have been. At least I have Hargitay.
THE SHIELD
just shocked not to see it there
Sigh. Better Off Ted, left for dead.
How on god’s green earth was Josh Holloway NOT nominated? Or Elizabeth Mitchell? Why do I even bother. As a Buffy fan I’m used to this disappointment. At least the show got nominated.
what about Katherine Heigl in Greys, I thought she put herself back in the race (after her with drawing last year with a lack of good material) did she get snubbed on purpose?? I wonder?
NO JANUARY JONES????!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But the rest is ok…
Love that Christine Baranski was nominated for Big Bang Theory as guest actress. Woo, NPH!
How do they nominate Sandra Oh, but fail to recognize Kevin McKidd, who was ALSO in all those awesome scenes that they thought she was so good in??????

Shame on you, Emmy! I would copy and paste the tirade I just wrote to my husband regarding the BSG snub, but it’s too riddled with f-bombs and the words “Seriously” and “Really” to be posted in a public forum.
(A tiny little yay for Sarah Silverman and Jim “My Nerd Crush” Parsons…now, back to anger.)
Battlestar and Mary McDonnell. Completely agreed. Also, Better Off Ted (if it’s not too new).
I’m very happy that Generation Kill has so many nominations (mostly technical, mind) and am ELATED for Flight of the Conchords!
Am not even going to start on all the major snubs that shouldn’t have been (Elizabeth Moss over January Jones? Really??!) so will just shut up.
Love that Motherlover got nominated for Best Song.
i am angry and disgusted that BSG did not get a series nomination. and michael urie was snubbed. emmy is more out of touch than grammy or oscar.
Where’s the love for Vince Gilligan’s writing prowess on “Breaking Bad”?
No Katherine Heigl?! She SHOULD have got a nomination her performance was brilliant and I would have liked to see Justin Chambers get a nom too I thought he was great.
Lee Pace, Anna Friel, and Chi McBride for Pushing Daisies
Ian McShane for Kings
Avatar: The Last Airbender
Pushing Daisies
Family Guy for Comedy? I know it’s great that we finally have an animated show in the top categories, but Family Guy?
But I’m pleased that Rose Byrne finally was acknowledged for her work in “Damages”. The nomination’s a year late, but nice to see.
TRUE BLOOD!!! Totaly SNUBBED
NO JANUARY JONES?!
the hot mess of snubs committed this morning should surprise no one. i realize most (if not all) who will read this and comment could in general care less about the daytime emmy awards, but very similar “WTF?” moments happened on the morning of the nominees announcements for this emmy red-headed step sister earlier in the summer.
i will reiterate– yet again– that Crystal Chappell is the queen of all daytime acting and received the snubs of all snubs by not garnering a nomination for her impeccable work in 2008. she could easily give Hargitay and Field a run for their money this year.
and not that she necessarily deserves it, but anybody else wondering where the indignation about Heigl’s exclusion is this AM?
Happy for Jermaine and FoTC but no Cat Deely in Reality Host? Unforgivable.
Much as I love Neil Patrick Harris, I will most definitely be ignoring the Emmy telecast this year. With no BSG, no FNL, no Burn Notice and no ER nods (come on, this last season was AMAZING!!!!!!!) I have come to the conclusion that the Emmy voters are the lamest bunch of know-nothings ever assembled in one delegation. This stinks!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t understand how Cat Deeley keeps getting overlooked for So You Think You Can Dance. She’s an incredible host and should definitely be nominated (and win)!
Totally agree with Yasser.
January Jones gave the best performance by an actress in 2008….in any medium (yep, I’m including Kate Winslet’s extraordinary perf in “Revolutionary Road”). The fact that Jones wasn’t nominated–even in the supporting actress drama category–is a bleeting disgrace.
I always have to remind myself that these awards don’t matter, but I still wish that BSG had won every single award this year. Can’t believe it – but I am satisfied with the fact that the show will stand the test of time as one of the greatest ever.
Also, no FNL!? This is really an absurd “awards” show.
