'Bachelorette' player Wes: Is anyone interested in his music?

Categories: The Bachelorette

Bachelorette-wes_l Cleanup in Aisle Creep! The Bachelorette's current final-four contender Wes — you know, the guy who during his confessionals has waxed poetic about how performing music in front of an audience is more of a turn-on than any woman or drug could ever be — was apparently "truth"-telling when he insisted he did not have a girlfriend named Laurel while being meekly grilled by Jillian during last Monday's episode. Laurel (last name Kagay) tells People.com that she dated Wes for three years, until she caught him writing a steamy love letter to a major record label their relationship turned to friendship a year ago. For the record, Laurel has also dated Brad Womack (star of The Bachelor's 11th season) as well as Collin Evans, a contestant during The Bachelorette’s third season with Jen Schefft, notes People. (Not that I'm implying a fameosexual trend here or anything.)

But getting back to Wes, here's the thing that's been bugging me all season long. If Smarmy McEvasionpants' endgame is country-music stardom, and not a relationship with our reality-dating heroine, why is he so open about it when the cameras are rolling? Wes' admission a couple weeks back to his fellow love gladiators that he'd reached his goal of making it through six "shows" is a pretty clear indicator that the relationship he's seeking is with the music-buying public, not a Canadian cutie with self-esteem issues and terrible judgment in character. Like it's not obvious to even the least cynical Bachelorette viewer that he's dreaming of iTunes downloads, not steamy hottub encounters and scenic Vancouver tourism, whenever Jillian is around? If dude really wants to make fans and climb to the top of the charts, wouldn't he have been smarter to pretend he's really into Jillian, rather than reveal his willingness to treat her heart like a cat with a ball of yarn? I mean, is there a Bachelorette fan alive who has any interest whatsoever in buying a Wes debut album, especially if it contains that droopy ballad, "Love Don't Come Easy," that he trots out more frequently than Jillian says "aboot"?

Then again, maybe I'm the one who's got it all wrong. We live in a world where infamous gutter-snipe Paris Hilton landed a major-label record deal (and a top 20 hit) despite overwhelming evidence that she has no singing/songwriting/anything talent, and the fact that the average American finds her abhorrent. So is it possible this Bachelorette stint will get Wes exactly what he wants? Or are we the viewing public too smart and too outraged for that? Wes is as thick as a post. Was he one of the ones whose sister signed him up? So maybe he (and his manager) don’t understand the “mentality” of the Bachelorette fan: they are zealous when protecting the women they think have been wronged. So I’m with you Slezak: there’s no self-respecting Bachelorette watcher who will buy what he’s selling.

  • AA

Sorry!! Just realized I wrote “self-respecting Bachelorette watcher”! Of course there is no such thing! I throw my self-respect out the window everytime I tune into this show — what was I thinking?? :)

  • Holly

I for one, DO like Wes and his music. It’s all been in the editing people…for each and every contestant. NONE of them are like they’ve been portrayed.

  • DomeFoam

I’ve read (and believe) that the producers have done some clever editing regarding some of Wes’s more infuriating comments, yet, even that aside, I can’t AT ALL see that he’s even a little into Jillian. He basically asked her to let him go this past week and she still kept him. But anyway, Slezak, I’ve had the same exact thoughts. Even bad publicity is still publicity??

  • Erin

Everytime Wes is on the screen, I have to put my fingers in my ears in case he starts singing that heinous song or opens his stupid mouth. How does Jillian not see that this guy is just using her?

  • Snarf

Famewhores’ motivations tend to be as transparent as prison bedsheets and just about as besmirched.

  • shawnkinkaid

Wes makes me ill just looking at his smug mug– he can’t sing and honestly he is NOT good looking. Why did’t he try out for Americas got talent if he thinks he is all that and a bag of chips–pleeezeeee

  • Broadway Baby

I don’t know if he really wants to sell music or not. I am actually more inclined to think that he IS a producer’s plant – he might as well have a mustache to twirl, he is so evil. Unbelievably jerky. But what I do know is that the rest of the crop are boooring and tedious and the only times I am interested in anything they have to say is if it’s about Wes. Godspeed fair Jillian – it ain’t gonna happen here.

  • sbwm

No. He is just a no. Do any other “self -respecting” Bachelorette viewers (tm AA) remember when we first met our strumming man – he was perched in a window, feet out, crooning away and already looking unbathed. He has not had an appealing moment since the get-go.

  • Jenny

Wes, makes me sick, gag, barff, ick!! What a smary scag. Kick him off the show, get rid of him. I cannot believe Jillian keeping him. Watch her end up picking him, and I’ll freak out. Uh duh! Do you THINK she can’t pick out the good ones?? Someboyd stop her from herself. Even Jake coming back couldn’t impress Jillian. She’s hopeless.

  • Isis Chavez

can anybody please tell me who didnt get a rose monday night june 29th 2009????????? i missed the show.

  • Allison

What Bachelorette fan OR woman for that matter in their right mind would buy his cd or even listen to his music after watching the way he has treated Jillian and acted? You’d have to be insane because not only is he a cad, but his music/singing sucks! He is a Kenny Chesney wannabe and has completely missed the mark!

  • EP to Isis

Isis, on last Monday’s show (6/29), Jesse and Michael did not get roses. Wes, Ed (he came back), Kiptyn and Reid all got roses.

  • donna

Not interested in his music in the least bit and I’m a country fan. You are right, if he was seriously intending to furthering his career, he shouldn’t have insulted our integrity, most of us are Jillian fans and hate how he’s playing her for a fool. Even if someone did like his sound, it would be hard to buy anything that he puts out because he’s such a blatant creep.

  • Cynthia Boelens

I wouldn’t listen to his CD if I found it for free on my doorstep. The guy is a total creep. No one should reward him for being a selfish user by supporting his aspirations to become a country singing star.

  • Karen

Jillian has awful tastes since it seems she prefers Wes since she has a blind eye to his dishonest ways. The guy is a creep, clear and simple- his looks are creepy, his skin and hair are greasy- but he puts the most moves on her- like he probably does 100’s of skanks. This guy is only into himself and his career. Another dead giveaway to his lies was when she informed him she’d been told he had a girlfriend and the first thing he said ‘Did one of my guys tell you that?” (meaning his band) because you can be sure THEY would know. How could anyone believe him over JAKE?

  • Wesrules

    I think HIS tractor is sexy :) in that bad-boy kind of way {}

  • Sara

I don’t like country music, so I won’t be buying his cd any time soon, but he is pretty genius for going on the show to promote himself. Sounds like Speidi has some competition! (P.S. Jillian, Wes is not even cute!)

  • m

It’s all scripted, and Wes is a hired used-to-be actor. If not, then silly Jilly is really stupid, but I think she is well aware of the SCRIPT!

  • kimtx

I agree editing has a lot to do woth how each of the guys is portrayed. But he is still stupid, no matter which way you “cut” it, for saying he was there for promoting his music… And he is not very good to start with, in my opinion. I hope Jillian is not so blind that she can’t see past some of Wes’ actions, comments and lack of genuine affection… Am sure ABC/ the show’s producers are thinking that Wes “makes good tv”… Ya know? Here we all are talking about it…. With that being said, I will be tuned in Monday night hoping to see him get the boot.

  • Karen

This is what our favorite ‘bachelorette’ Trista Rehn Sutter wrote on her blog:
“It just makes me sick to my stomach for her that Wes says he has everything to gain, he “has a hidden agenda,” and he’ll always have her wrapped around his little finger. What makes me even sicker is his bit about tasting and eating the fame he is going to get out of being on the show. Oh, no he didn’t say that but he did!”

  • Dawn

Not cute, Not sexy, Can’t sing! I hope he leaves soon. At times, I wish the Chris could tell them things like this that they need to hear.

  • Karen

I wish Jake had told Jillian what he told PEOPLE Magazine:
People:Do you stand by what you claimed, that Wes said he had a girlfriend?
Jake: I don’t believe it. I know it. Without a shadow of a doubt, he and Laurel were together. They’re still together. It’s an act and Laurel was in cahoots with him. They had an agreement to put their relationship on the back-burner so he could go on and sell CDs. His biggest fear was making it far enough to go on overnight dates because that wasn’t okay with Laurel. Evidently she cleared [him] to kiss. I’m a God-fearing man and if I am mistaken or he didn’t tell me that, God can strike me down with lightning right now.”
Now we know why Wes has been saying things that are designed to make Jillian doubt him- why he’s saying he’s not sure when she asks and seems non-committal- he wants to get voted off!

  • Karen

SARA- you make a good point! And the show’s producers may not have a problem with it because a story like this can increase view counts.

  • To dawn

I totally agree! He’s not hot, his song sucks, he’s totally a slime … even if I were a country music fan, I would not download that album.

  • Amy

I would buy his cd….and then go home and burn it.

  • Scott

Well I think he’s cute..but he is a complete jerk for sure.

  • Anne

I wouldn’t buy his music even if he was the next Kenny Chesney

  • Marsha

I think Wes is a total sleezeball! It’s horrible how he can toy with Jilly’s affections. He is so not even good looking or talented! Jillian-WAKE UP!

  • Wes the sleeze

William Hung is more talented than Wes. Don’t know who he is? Try Google or youtube.
