Adam Lambert and Madonna: Please work together now. Thanks.

Madonna-lambert_l When I read in Rolling Stone's Adam Lambert cover story that the American Idol runner-up was starstruck during a recent meeting with Madonna, my first reaction was "Awww, that's sweet." But the more I think about it, the more the Idol-obsessed voices in my head are howling: "Starstruck? Bah! These two ought to be working together!"

Think about it: Earlier this week, it was reported that Adam had logged studio time with Lady Gaga producer RedOne, so despite his rocker tendencies, the Idol runner-up is clearly not afraid of getting his dance on. And now, if you will, let your mind travel back to Madonna's seminal 1998 Ray of Light CD — yes, we are all that old — an electronica extravaganza that still managed to keep a foot in the guitar-rock genre. Suddenly, I'm thinking Adam and Madge could team up for a cover of "Candy Perfume Girl" or "Drowned World/Substitute for Love," or best of all "Swim" (embedded after the jump for the uninitiated).

Not only would the hookup make sense musically, but it would also be a smart career move. For Adam, a Madonna duet would give him instant credibility outside the Idol universe — something he'll need to break through the anti-Idol prejudice held by many a radio-station programmer. For Madonna, being the first superstar artist to hit the studio with Adam would attach her to a young, exciting artist without the appearance that she's suddenly become a follower instead of a leader (a problem that gave "Me Against the Music" and "4 Minutes to Save the World" a slight whiff of desperation). Plus, girlfriend could use some fresh gay-cred points, no?

What do you think? Would an Adam-Madonna collaboration be a match made in musical heaven, or an aural abomination? And which artist would benefit more from a duet?

How can she keep up with his vocals, though?

Madonna will do great in a duet with Adam Lambert, since he’s the hot ticket in town, she’s known for doing things and going where no one dare to do in the past, she’s like Adam Lambert in all the looks she has portrayed over her illustrious musical life, Adam will benefit tremendously, since it will prove that he’s ready for big time celebrity status, both are show persons with Adam lambert holding the edge on vocals and stage presence, but on the other hand Madonna holds the edge of being a loved well known rock superstar and a diva by all means of the imagination…a duet that will be fantastic!!….

    Match made in Heaven!!!!!!

I think it’s a great idea Slezak. I’m looking forward to see what Adam Lambert does regardless. It think he’s going to be a shooting star! I still watch some of his AI singing I saved on my computer and uploading to others as I write.

This collaboration would be very interesting indeed – for both. Another possibility I think would be steaming hot is Shakira and Adam – both are sexy and vocal powerhouses.

Sounds intriguing. Another possibility I think would be steaming hot is SHAKIRA and ADAM – both are sexy, move well, and are vocal power houses.

MADONNA I APPROVE OF! JUST STAY THE EFF AWAY FROM GAGA ADAM. SHE IS ANNOYING AS HELL.

Michael — I agree. It a great idea for a dance duet and the video would be even better. I’m hearing a song that includes lyrics about intimidation — very hot.

They’d both benefit! Although, Lambert more than Madonna. I don’t know what’s happening to me, but I’m crushing on Lambert even more as time goes on. Maybe because he’s stopped hiding? The unabashed sexuality? Whatever it is, it’s strong.

  • blah

Amazing idea!! I actually think they both would benefit from a duet…it would have the potential to be EPIC, if done right!

Madonna donot have high notes as Adam. Oh, Adam can adjust for her. Low or High, Adam can sing the best.

  • Philli

Nah, he needs to do his own thing. I think Madonna has a tremendous voice (Evita), but Adam needs to establish himself and his style. Later on I think a combo would be great. Just not now. It’s all about the timing.

I think it’s a good concept. He has said he’d love to work with her. I don’t see it happening yet, until he gets more credibility – maybe after his album goes platinum and gets a grammy nod like JT– I don’t see Madge taking a risk on him YET. He had said they met briefly and she gave him advice on dealing with the instant fame. Honestly, I love me some Madonna, but I don’t see her as being relevant anymore. The last CD of hers I really liked was 1998’s Ray of Light. The only thing that I could see helping her is a really sexy video, like Justin and Ciara’s or Sex magic one, or a Justify my Love kind of video with Adam– very hot, lots of skin– what do you think, Michael?

I think he should do an duet with Christina Aguilera, she has a tremendous voice with great range. WHat about Mary j. Blige, she’s out of this world. Madonna is good for getting attention, but he needs an singer that can challenge him. Madonna just is not that interesting any more.

  • Winks

Hmm, could be interesting. Actually I think it could be great. Really hot. I think it would benefit both of them.

Hey Adam fans! check out http://www.adamistherealidol.com :] Thanks!

Are you posting this because people on your previous post thought you were bashing Adam? or am I really that cynical? hehe. anyways, I say no to Madonna since she can’t match up to him vocally. I say a better match is Xtina who is now going to electronica/dance route. just imagine them live trying to out sing each other!

  • Shirley

Yes! I definitely agree with you Michael! I think a Madonna and Adam duet will be an instant hit. I have thought that Adam could be the male Madonna, who constantly changes her style to fit the current music scene. And Adam’s got the voice that could do so many different genres so it works for him. I really hope Madonna will reach out to Adam and make a duet for his first album. Isn’t Madonna coming out with an album in 2010? It will be a great chance to promote her new style with Adam. I’m glad you’ve suggested this, Michael. Let’s hope Madonna’s people sees this.

  • Jacey

I think it would be interesting, although I’m not a big Madonna fan (hated her Ray of Light CD). But I think Adam would actually gain more cred doing something with Lady GaGa. She’s hotter right now.

  • Stephanie

It’s going to happen. Adam has said he wants to work with her and he never says things like this unless they’re in the works.

  • HootieD

I just wish Adam would release a double cd, I already know that I’m going to wear it out within the first week.
As far as a Madonna duet, he really can’t lose on that. I could hear an up tempo song or a ballad, would probably prefer a ballad though in all honesty.
I like the idea of a Christina duet too, but I think if it were Madge or X-tina, they should only really do a background vocal and maybe a bridge. I really only want to hear Adam’s soaring voice.

  • Linda

He looks like Liberace. How about a Vegas show instead?

  • YR

Frankly I was surprised that Adam is so in awe with Madonna…she started off kinda like “Bikini Girl”, doing everything she could to draw attention away from the fact that she couldn’t sing. Granted, she has been a creative entertainer…If they collaborate it’d have to be like Pink and Steven Tyler in “Misery”, with Pink(Adam)doing most of the singing.

  • Melanie

Uh, no….Madonna could never match the incredible vocal range that Adam is graced with …..I agree that Christina Aguilera would be a perfect match for him. Love them both and I would buy any collaberation between them in a heartbeat.

  • tara

AWESOME idea! Especially regarding the “Ray of Light” type sound. I also second the double disc notion – I need as much Adam as possible.

  • megan

LOVE IT! It would be perfect. It would help both of them. Give Adam street cred, and she has a lot to teach Adam. Adam clearly adores all she’s done so it’s up her alley. It helps her with the young ones, and gays. And it helps her with PR. She needs to be seen as humble, helping out a new and rising star.

  • William McCoy

Please no! I have never cared for Madonna’s thin voice or mediocre material. I think it would be best for Adam to work on his own for the first CD. He can do celebrity duets later in his career.

  • Elijah

YES. Absolutely. This would be a match made in gay/dance pop heaven.

  • ERipley

Yes – a Madonna/Adam collaboration would be good – but not right away. If Adam can do what I think he can do, what you (yes you, Slezak)think he can do, and what HE thinks he can do then he should do it on his own. He can hook up with her after he’s gained his own street cred. She is awesome – but so is he. It’s a bigger win for him if he makes it on his own, and a bigger win for her if mega-star Adam (still young a fresh) works with her.

  • xinxin

I’d like to see that happens, sounds like a great idea.
