A new Fame theatrical trailer debuted today, and we had to wait less than 20 seconds for a jazz hands joke. YES! So many questions: Whose speeches will be more inspiring, Kelsey Grammer's or Charles S. Dutton's? How do we get that more-dramatic-than-a-Baz-Luhrmann-film stage lighting into our daily lives (or, at least, Annie's office)? And which scene will make this replace Center Stage as our favorite dance film starring at least one performer gifted in every discipline but acting?I cannot wait for the answers. I haven't been this excited to hear "Fame" since the end of The Hangover. I am, however, a little nervous because both my Center Stage and Step Up partners are now living on the opposite coast. You have to be very careful who you take with you to see a movie like this: There must be genuine enjoyment in the seats and dancing in line at the ladies' room afterward. Do you have your Fame date already picked?

This actually doesn’t look as bad as I was expecting it to look. But aside from the awesome “Fame” dance sequence in the street and on the taxi and Paul McCrane’s awesome hair, I’m not a fan of the original. I don’t care for the cover of the title song, though.
Mandi, I think you need to audition potential viewing buddies first. There should be no snark detected during Center Stage, Step Up, Stomp the Yard, and as an elective, The Cutting Edge — only pure joy at consuming choreographed cheese. Lucky for me, my Center Stage buddy is local, so I’m set for Fame. Also, how do we get Sascha Radetsky (Charlie from Seattle) some more acting work?
Looks like there is potential for it to be fantastic. And especially in the league of Center Stage. And the fact that it focus’s on other aspects as well as dancing. Perfect. I am very interested. Much more so than before I saw this trailor. I may miss the television series and the original film. But I think they might actually do this well. Could be amazing. I can’t wait until September 25th.
The new cover of the song is horrendous.
OMG, that blonde girl is Kherington from last season’s SYTYCD.
I was hoping that old music teacher from the original movie would be in this movie- and Bruno Martelli!
Whenever my old roommate and I talk dance, we always cite Cooper Nielsen as the greatest dancer of all time.
Kherington from SYTYCD? I wasn’t her biggest fan, but if the girl can act half as well as she danced with Twitch, I’m pumped! Plus, does that mean any other cool kids from SYTYCD will appear? Will, perhaps?!
Mandi, I’ve got a group of dedicated dance movie fans as friends. We’re all in our 30s, so you’ll fit right in. Come on up to Ottawa and watch it with us. I guarantee giggles, trash talk, high fives, and dancing in the ladies room.
Ah, love Val’s suggestion and choice of elective is interesting, if only to help us play six degrees of fame, that I connect here by two, with Fields of Dreams on the soundtrack by Nia Peeples, Nicole Chapman on the series Fame.
Center Stage is one of my favorite movies, so I can’t wait for this! Mandi, I’m in NYC – if you need a buddy for the movie, I’m in!
AWESOME. I canNOT wait for this!
This looks better than I thought it would. Well except for the part where the new cover of “Fame” is brutal and the faculty/adults look infinitely more interesting than the protagonists.
ok people tell me if i’m wrong, but i would like to see a new ideas from movie studios instead of a continuous stream of remakes of old films (especially 80′s films which aren’t that old in the first place). it seems like that’s all we’re getting lately. i don’t know…i guess i’m just interested in seeing something different.
I completely agree – Going to the movies nowadays is like staying home to watch re-runs on a Friday night or old family vacation videos. . .
D’oh! My Fame date also lives on the opposite coast now, Mandi. Gotta start polling the girlfriends now to see who’s worthy. Val, Wikipedia says Sascha Radetsky is now a principal with Dutch National Ballet, but it also says he was arrested in 2007 for ‘feline pit fighting’ (?!?) so I can’t verify the accuracy of this fact.
my roommate Siobhan and I have lived together for over 5 years and have spent those years watching and re-watching every performance(or for some reason football) movie in existence.
Although to be fair we’re usually smoking a joint.
Raise Your Voice is really, really messed up when you’re high.
