SNL has been a springboard to movie stardom ever since Chevy Chase and John Belushi, but there have been an equal number of promising late-night players who truly proved not ready for cinematic primetime. (Even Red Sox fans wrinkled their noses at Jimmy Fallon’s Fever Pitch.)
Sudeikis has leading man potential, but can you imagine him starring in romantic comedies or Judd Apatow-style projects? Do you plan to see Bounty Hunter, PopWatchers, and if you had to bet now, where do you see Sudeikis in five years? Vacation or Johnny Dangerously?

Um, no they didn’t. “Fever Pitch” was a good movie.
Jason is no Piscopo. He’ll be a leading man in no time. I’ll definitely catch Bounty Hunter when it comes out.
I met Jason Sudeikis at an SNL after-after party and he was the nicest guy ever. I summoned the courage to approach him and play the part of the adoring fan and he couldn’t have been more gracious. I told him he was awesome on SNL and “carried the show.” He laughed and said he appreciated it – such a great guy. All I know is I’ll be sure to support him in any and all post-SNL endeavors!

Yeah, if you wanted to trash a Fallon movie, you should’ve DEFINITELY gone with “Taxi.” (Just unwatchable.)
Anyway, I think Sudeikis has a great chance to succeed. In addition to being great on “30 Rock” (some say he was the Michael Clayton of Cleveland)e’s proven to be in invaluable utility player on SNL. He’s one of the few people who can play the straight man and the wacky character equally as well.
I see his film career as similar to Chris Parnell’s, y’know a character actor type who when you see him you go “that’s that guy from Saturday Night Live”
Firstly, I love me some Floyd. I would have fleed to the Cleve for him.
Secondly, Sudekis has star quality and talent. Like @Ceballos said, he can play the straight man and be wacky, which is something even Chevy can’t do. He’s handsome and has serious charisma. I hope he does well!
I think he can do anything. you can’t really compare him to those 2 because they were expected to open the movie. If Sudakis is #3 or lower, he has a long career.
I think you are all forgetting the biggest star to come out of SNL. Have you heard of him? oh, Eddie Murphy. Regardless of Imagine That.
More of a David Spade or Jay Mohr. Occasional movie roles and a lot of TV work.
Red Sox fans hate Fever Pitch because Fallon is a Yankees fan in real life and he was on the field when the Sox won the World Series in 2004!
Sudekis surprised me on 30 Rock. Didn’t know he was such a good actor! Love him and think he just needs the right role/movie, like Ed Helms from “The Office” knocking it out of the park in “The Hangover.”
Actually, Artie Lange respects Jason Sudeikis a lot — he spoke highly of him on the Howard Stern Show the day after the Joe Buck appearance.
Actually, you guys are missing the point of the Jimmy Fallon/ Fever Pitch comment. It’s not that Fever Pitch was a bad movie, it’s that it practically bombed at the box office. Anyway, I think this dude has talent and could do great things, we’ll just see what kind of scripts that he chooses. I think I agree with Al though, he’ll probably have a few film roles and a long life on TV.

Once funny comedian turned actor, turned steroid popping body builder with a BAD tan-turned b movie actor on the verge of making a comeback vs. intelligent comedian turned underrated actor mostly known for his Vacation films who became so desperate for work that he chose the craptactic film ZOOM as his comeback.
Jason is nether. Actually Will Ferrell can be compared to Chevy Chase. Whe Jason is givien the right roles (30 Rock and Timothy Geithner) he is quite funny.
Jimmy Fallon was the ONLY good thing about Fever Pitch. There is not much I can say about Taxi though.
Jason doesn’t play Geitner on SNL, Will Forte does.
As I recall, Entertainment Weekly gave “Fever Pitch” and “A” and so would I. Fever Pitch was a great movie, and sadly it didn’t help Jimmy Fallon in his movie stardom, but no worries, I think with his new gig, he’s over it.

Sudeikis may not be a big enough name to be leading man material. Despite being one half of “the two A-holes” he doesn’t have any other memorable characters (Biden is an impression not a character, Will Ferrell didn’t get where he is today by doing George Bush, and it didn’t work for Darrell Hammond either). Sudeikis might need to host an MTV award show, or have a scene stealing character in a hit comedy movie, before an audience will see him on the big screen and know his name, instead of saying “where’s he from again, he’s so familiar?”
Oh man! I LOVE Jason Sudeikis! He’s really funny and I don’t have a particular character I like from him, but that’s good because he does a lot well and isn’t pigeon-holed in. I completely loved him on 30 Rock, for sure!
So… I know it won’t be the Piscopo route, thank God.
Ok. My mistake. Sorry but it just that SNL has become soo bad that I cannot tell who is playing what. BTW: what was with the Goodnight Saigon ending on the season finale? I get that fear is fear, but it was horrible.
Of course you can see him in a romantic comedy or Apatow film! Why is that questioned asked like it is so far fetched?
