'The Listener': I hear 'no'

Tagged:

Greg-grunberg-tweet_l Oh, SNAP! Actor Greg Grunberg (Heroes) can't get excited about his own network's new drama, The Listener, which debuts tonight on NBC. He dissed it in a Twitter post today, calling out the show for being unoriginal. The show follows one Toby Logan (Craig Olejnik), a young paramedic whose big secret is that he can hear people's thoughts. And he wants to use his special powers for good! It's like What Women Want as a Canadian drama staring a hunky EMT. So, eh, I'm saving my telepath enthusiasm for Sookie Stackhouse. (Besides, EW television critic Ken Tucker agrees with Grunberg and gave it a C-.)

What about you, PopWatchers? Are we all being too harsh, or will you be joining us on the No Thanks train?

Hell to the NO! Why do Canadian produced (and filmed series) always have that odor of fromage?

  • Angela

Of course he’s not excited. They STOLE HIS POWER! (his character’s power on Heroes, that is)

Umm… I think it’s “odour”.. and it’s there to distinguish our crap tv from the American crap tv. Greg Grunberg must have stopped watching his own show after the first season if he can throw such a heavy stone.

That’s funny – I thought the same exact thing when I saw the preview the other day. I actually thought it was a Heroes commercial at first because the show uses the same effect for hearing thoughts. SOOOO not original…

  • lostfanboy16

That’s funny coming from the guy on the most unoriginal show on tv.

I agree that the show looks awful but Parkman wasn’t the first ever tv character able to hear thoughts. The Twilight Zone had that 40 years ago and there probably have been others. He should be more concerned about his own show

I really enjoyed it. Can’t listen to critics. Check it out and see for yourself. Might like it…I did!

I´m watching it right now and I think is so good.. actually Heroes is the one show I think is crap…

    I TRIED TO WATCH…AFTER 15 MINUTES I TURNED A DEAF EAR..AND THE CHANNEL..

OK, I’ve only read two Twitter posts from Grunberg, and both of them were dismissive, disparaging and/or somewhat hypocritical. As has been pointed out, Matt Parkman is not the first TV character to hear the thoughts of others.

I don’t believe anything Greg Grunberg says anymore because he’s done nothing but lie about the quality of Heroes to encourage viewers to watch, ever since the first season finale. That sucked big time, but yet the lies still keep coming from him every year. He’s out of control!

I am a Canuck and even I thought the show stinks but then so does Heroes.

I’ve seen the show, it aired here, I’ve seen the finale a couple of weeks ago … it sucks! The entire show sucks!!
At first I didn’t care about the unoriginal plot cuz -if done properly- it would’ve been interesting. But it wasn’t done properly, hell it wasn’t even half decent!
The plot was lame, the stories were contrived, the characters were annoying and the cast was pretty crappy.
I gave it a chance but then I stopped watching after episode 5, I watched the finale just to see what happens and they left us with the most rediculous cliffhanger ever.
The show is not bad because it’s unoriginal or because it’s about the unnatural … it sucks because it’s half-a**ed and stupid!

i tried watching this last night and i have to say…one of the worst shows i’ve ever seen. i watched til the end, hoping it would get better, but no…i won’t be tuning in again.

I was mesmerized by the inconsistencies in the show. I live in Toronto, and have all my life, and couldn’t stop watching to see what else they would get wrong.
I mean, come on. Our police don’t wear revealing tank tops in public, while on the job, let alone at the darkly lit police station.
